Height Adjustable Couches, Tables and Chairs GENERAL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS [Linak LA27 Actuator] Congratulations - your decision to purchase an ABCO Health Care product will be of great benefit for years to come.
Purpose ABCO Height Adjustable couches, tables and chairs (couches) are designed to provide an ergonomic response to patient examination and treatment. This is achieved through: • permitting easy access for patients through minimum heights generally suitable for unaided wheelchair transfer; and • easy adjustment of the couch to a height suitable for examination / treatment. Adjustments to upholstery angles provide support for both patient and user during examination / treatment. WARNING: Patients should be supervised during use of this couch. In particular, they should be supervised at all times during adjustments of height or upholstery angles. Patients should be cautioned not to access or leave the couch during height adjustments and to remain on the couch during such adjustments until advised that it is safe to leave the couch. Attempting to leave the couch during the process of height adjustment could lead to falls or even crushing of body parts in the height adjustment mechanism. Caution: A maximum lift capacity is shown on the Serial Number label on the product base. This is the maximum recommended lifting capacity of the couch although the static load is substantially in excess of this.
Warranty: These ABCO Health Care (ABCO) products are covered by a five-year warranty against defective parts or manufacture from the date of supply. This includes the frame, actuator system and upholstery. This warranty is limited to the repair and/or replacement of any parts and the decision to repair and/or replace will be solely at the discretion of ABCO. Such works will be carried out at ABCO’s premises on receipt of the product from the customer freight prepaid. This warranty shall be void if the ABCO serial number label has been removed from the product. This warranty does not extend to bind or obligate ABCO to pay any consequential damage or expenditure caused as a result of any defect in the goods, save as set out in this clause. The warranty does not cover damage or breakage from other causes including during transport and your attention is drawn to the notice relating to care of vinyl below.
Power Supply: This product is designed to operate with a 240v/50AC power supply. A transformer positioned close to the power outlet converts the current to 24vDC to power the actuator[s]. The system is certified under AS/NZS 3200.1.0:1998 including AS/NZS 3200.1.2:2005 (01/12/06). A copy of the Australian Test Certificate is available on request. The actuators and transformers have a 10% duty cycle and a thermal fuse in the transformer may automatically cut out if the system is used at full load for more than approximately 6 minutes in any one hour period. (Full load implies the stated maximum lift for this product +10% during the lifting process.) The transformer may require replacement if this occurs but will normally reset after a cooling off period.
INSTALLATION and ASSEMBLY Packaging: Remove the protective packaging after checking for any signs of damage in transit. Dispose of the packaging thoughtfully. Environment: This product is designed to operate in a temperature range of between +5° and +40°C and relative humid ity between 20% and 90% (at 30°C.) Electrical components are rated at IP54 or higher. This means that they are protected against dust (limited ingress – no harmful deposit) and water sprayed from all directions – limited ingress permitted. This product is not suitable for use in the vicinity of flammable gases or flammable gas mixtures. Opins Couch [LA27] 1401 (new address).docx

ABCO Health Care Height Adjustable Couches, Tables and Chairs [LA27] GENERAL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Wheel Systems: Your product is fitted with wheels to permit convenient movement to other locations or for cleaning. • Retractable wheels are activated or retracted by moving the adjusting handles at one end of the base.[Push the handle outwards with one foot to raise the couch. Lift the handle to return the couch to working position.] • Braked castors are individually braked [one of them has ‘tracking lock’ only which helps when manoeuvring the table. All castors should be fully locked and positioned to the outside of the base during use.
Serial Number Label
Location and Stability: Position your couch, table or chair where you plan to use it making allowance for access to a power outlet and end-to-end movement during height adjustment. Depending on the couch specifications, lengthways movement may be as much as 180mm at maximum height – it is generally much less than this during normal use. Adjust the stability by use of the levelling foot mechanism found on one corner of the base where retractable wheels are fitted. This operates by turning clockwise to reduce height / anti-clockwise to increase height. Caution: DO NOT use the couch while retractable wheels are in the operating position. They are not designed to carry the weight loads generated while the couch is in use. Always lower the couch to its main feet before use to avoid damage and to achieve maximum stability. Where braked castors are fitted, these should be locked during use with the castors positioned to the outside of the base to maximise stability. Power Supply: This couch has an actuator designed to operate on 240v/50AC electrical supply. It has been fully tested on your couch before delivery. ∗ Insert the plug on the end of the power cable into a standard 10amp three-pin outlet. Caution: Position the power cord where the risk of damage to the cord or tripping is minimised. ∗ Turn on the power supply. Fuses in the system protect the actuator system against overload. Blown fuses are not covered under warranty
Actuator control: The actuator foot- or hand-control and lead have been checked for use with your couch, table or chair. Diagrams on the buttons indicate up or down and pressing the appropriate button will adjust the height of the couch. Position the foot control in a convenient location to suit your requirements. Hand controls are magnetised and attach to any part of the metal frame for storage when not in use. Caution: The lead to the foot control can be damaged if caught in the frame or if heavy loads (eg a wheel) impact it. This may lead to damage to not only the foot control but also the main system control box. Keep the lead clear of areas where it may be damaged.
OPERATION Controls A foot switch assembly is provided for each actuator. (ie height adjustment plus centre-lift or backrest etc) Optional second foot switches and handsets operate in the same manner. Height Adjustment: The foot switch has two pedals with diagrams of arrows [see below]. Increase the couch height by pressing the button with an upwards () arrow or reduce the couch height by pressing the button with a downwards () arrow. The actuator will operate while the button is pressed or until it reaches the limit of its movement. Caution: The actuators and transformers have a 10% duty cycle and a thermal fuse in the transformer may automatically cut out if the system is used at full load for more than approximately 6 minutes in any one hour period. (Full load implies the stated maximum lift for this product shown on the serial number label on the couch base +10% during the lifting process.) The transformer may require replacement if this occurs but will normally reset after a cooling off period.

Upholstery Angle Adjustment: * Manual Adjustment Warning: Manually adjusted couch sections may fall quickly when the adjusting mechanism is released with potential to crush or bruise. Keep hands and limbs clear of the area between the couch frame and elevated couch upholstery sections. Raise upholstery sections by pulling the section upwards. The support rods will run through the brackets to allow movement. Alternatively gently turn the hand wheel at either side of the section upwards towards the hinge while pulling the section up to loosen the action. Lower upholstery sections by supporting the section upwards with one hand and then gently turn the hand wheel at either side of the section upwards towards the hinge until the supports are loose on the brackets to permit movement. Stop the movement at any point by releasing the hand wheel. Some mechanical noise is normal during adjustment. * Gas Strut Adjustment Where gas struts are provided for angle adjustment, move the handle towards the upholstery and support the upholstery section while moving it to the desired position. When in position, release the handle. * Electric Adjustment Where electric upholstery angle adjustment is fitted, the hand control has pictures to identify the up-down and backrest functions. Electrically operated backrests include a safety feature to prevent crushing if there is something caught between the upholstery section and the couch frame. Warning: Excessive loads [eg sitting on a raised section or lifting a section with someone on it] may cause the hinge[s] to break. This is a safety feature designed to protect the lifting mechanism from excessive loads and such damage is not covered by warranty.
USER MAINTENANCE Care of Vinyl: Weekly wipe the surface of the upholstery with a sponge or cloth dipped in a chemically neutral or pure warm soap/water solution. Wipe the surface using a dry clean cloth before the surface has dried. [The same method of cleaning is recommended for all parts of the couch including the actuator system.] Alternatively use a clinical detergent [eg Clinidet] Stubborn grime may require gentle scrubbing with a soft brush. Particular attention should be given to areas where body or other oils may build up as these oils can cause hardening of the surface. Surface hardening of the fabric is not recognised as a manufacturing fault.
Preventive Maintenance: Routine inspection of moving parts and controls of this product should be made monthly (or more often depending on use). Such inspection should include all bolts and nuts in the lifting mechanism, upholstery angle adjustment mechanisms, the foot / hand control and the power supply cable. • Tighten any loose nuts and bolts, check for damage to the foot / hand control cable. Undertake an Electrical Safety Inspection at least annually or more often if required by your accreditation process.
Actuator Maintenance & Inspection Your couch is fitted with actuator systems manufactured and supplied by Linak AS The control box, hand control, foot control and actuator units are all closed units. They are considered to be maintenance free and require no regular maintenance other than inspections. The exception to this is the replacement of the O-rings used on the mains power cable and the switch set DIN plugs. It is recommended that these O-rings be replaced at least every 3 years to maintain the IP54 protection ratings.

Problem Solving
•
If the couch does not move when the hand or foot control is pressed:
∗ ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗
Check that the power supply is connected and turned on. Check that the couch is not at the limit of the direction chosen. Check the chosen movement using an alternative switch set if available. Check that the cables are not damaged or disconnected from the foot switch or control box. Check that the foot- or hand-switch cables are not damaged. Check that the power outlet is working by testing with another appliance known to be functioning. If all the above do not resolve the problem please refer to your maintenance provider.
• Upholstery sections with manual adjustment will not stay in place o Ensure that the support rods are clean. Use methylated spirits or a similar product to remove any traces of oil or grease. • Noisy when changing height o Rotate all bolts in the lifting mechanism and the actuator mounts 360° - 720° in a clockwise directio n – there is no need to remove the nuts.
