OPERATING and ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
P40 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Congratulations - your decision to purchase an ABCO P40 Podiatry Chair will be of great benefit for years to come.
Purpose The ABCO P40 chair is designed to provide an ergonomic response to patient examination and treatment. This is achieved through: permitting easy access for patients through minimum heights generally suitable for unaided wheelchair transfer; and easy adjustment of the chair to a height and positioning suitable for examination / treatment. Adjustments to upholstery angles provide support for both patient and user during examination / treatment.

WARNING: Patients should be supervised during use of this chair. In particular, they should be supervised at all times during adjustments of height or upholstery angles. Patients should be cautioned not to access or leave the chair during height adjustments and to remain on the chair during such adjustments until advised that it is safe to leave the chair. Attempting to leave the chair during the process of height adjustment could lead to falls or even crushing of body parts in the height adjustment mechanism.
Caution: A maximum lift capacity is shown on the Serial Number label on the product base. This is the maximum recommended lifting capacity of the chair although the static load is substantially in excess of this.

Power Supply:
PODIATRY
This product is designed to operate with a 240v/50AC power supply. A control box converts the current to 24vDC to power the actuators. Where the battery option has been specified the batteries are recharged on a trickle basis overnight. The control box is certified under AS/NZS 3200.1.0:1998 including AS/NZS 3200.1.2:1995 (28/04/04). A copy of the Australian Test Certificate is available on request. The actuators and control boxes have a 10% duty cycle and a thermal fuse in the control box may automatically cut out if the system is used at full load for more than approximately 6 minutes in any one hour period. (Full load implies the stated maximum lift for this product +10% during the lifting process.) The control box will require replacement if this occurs.

USER MAINTENANCE Care of Upholstery: Weekly wipe the surface of the upholstery with a sponge or cloth dipped in a chemically neutral or pure warm soap/water solution. Wipe the surface using a dry clean cloth before the surface has dried. (The same method of cleaning is recommended for all parts of the chair including the actuator system.) Stubborn grime may require gentle scrubbing with a soft brush. Particular attention should be given to areas where body or other oils may build up as these oils can cause hardening of the surface. Surface hardening of the fabric is not recognised as a manufacturing fault.
Preventive Maintenance:
Routine inspection of moving parts and controls of this product should be made monthly (or more often depending on use). Such inspection should include all bolts and nuts in the lifting mechanism, upholstery angle adjustment mechanisms, the foot control and the power supply cable. Tighten any loose nuts and bolts, check for damage to the foot / hand control cable. Undertake an Electrical Safety Inspection at least annually or more often if required by your accreditation process.
Actuator Maintenance & Inspection Your chair is fitted with actuator systems manufactured and supplied by Linak AS. The control box, foot switch and actuator units are all closed units. They are considered to be maintenance free and require no regular maintenance other than inspections. The exception to this is the replacement of the O-rings used on the mains power cable and the switch set DIN plugs. It is recommended that these O-rings be replaced at least every 3 years to maintain the IP54 protection ratings. Only original Linak O-rings are to be used.
Problem Solving
If the chair does not move when the foot control is pressed: * Check that the power supply is ‘live’, connected and turned on. * Check that the chair is not at the limit of the direction chosen. * Check the chosen movement using an alternative switch set if available. * Check that the cables are not damaged or disconnected from the foot switch or control box. * Check that the foot control cables are not damaged. If all the above do not resolve the problem please refer to your maintenance provider.

Environment: This product is designed to operate in a temperature range of between +5° and +40°C and relative humidity between 20% and 90% (at 30°C.) Electrical components are rated at IP54 or higher. This means that they are protected against dust (limited ingress – no harmful deposit) and water sprayed from all directions – limited ingress permitted. This product is not suitable for use in the vicinity of flammable gases or flammable gas mixtures. Location and Stability: Position your chair where you plan to use it making allowance for access to a power outlet and upholstery adjustments. Wheel Systems: If your chair is fitted with braked castors these should be fully locked and positioned to the outside of the base during use. Power Supply: This chair has an actuator system designed to operate on 240v/50AC electrical current. It has been fully tested on your chair before delivery. Insert the plug on the end of the power cable into a standard 10 amp threepin outlet. Caution: Position the power cord where the risk of damage to the cord or tripping is minimised. Turn on the power supply. Fuses in the control box protect the actuator system against overload. Blown fuses are not covered under warranty
Actuator control: The actuator foot- control and lead have been checked for use with your chair. Logos by the buttons indicate up or down and pressing the appropriate button will adjust the height and upholstery positioning of the chair. Position the foot control in a convenient location to suit your requirements. Caution: The lead to the foot control can be damaged if caught in the frame or if heavy loads (eg a wheel) impact it. This may lead to damage to not only the foot control but also the main system control box. Keep the lead clear of areas where it may be damaged.

OPERATION Chair Adjustment: The foot switch has four sets of buttons with diagrams of arrows and function labels. Pressing the down arrow will return the function to the fully retracted position while the up button will extend the functions. The actuator will operate while the button is pressed or until it reaches the limit of its movement. Caution: The actuators and transformers have a 10% duty cycle and a thermal fuse in the transformer may automatically cut out if the system is used at full load for more than approximately 6 minutes in any one hour period. (Full load implies the stated maximum lift for this product shown on the serial number label on the couch base +10% during the lifting process.) The transformer may require replacement if this occurs but will normally reset after a cooling off period. Leg Rest The leg rest actuator pushes the leg rest up but does not pull it down. This is designed to minimise any potential damage or injury when the chair is lowered with the foot rest at an angle that would cause it to hit the floor. If the leg rest has contacted the floor, the actuator will continue to run until the ‘down’ button is released. Pressing the ‘up’ button will produce no movement in the leg rest until the actuator has extended far enough to re-engage.
WARNING: When under system memory control, the actuators move simultaneously until the individual actuators reach their pre-set position. Storing Memory Settings The memory positions are stored using the foot control assembly as follows. Return all actuators to the fully retracted position to calibrate them. Reposition actuators to the desired positions for the first memory position using the foot control. Store the first memory position by first pressing the ‘Memory Set’ button until a ‘beep’ is heard and then the ‘Memory 1’ button within 1 second. Repeat for the second and third memory positions using memory buttons ‘2’ and ‘3’ Confirm that the settings are correct by pressing and holding down each memory button and ensuring that the chair goes to the expected position. If it is necessary to change a pre set memory configuration, repeat the above steps.
Extending Leg Rest / Head Rest Where fitted, these upholstery sections slide in or out as required. Loosen the hand wheel[s], position the section as required and re-tighten the hand wheel[s].
Utilising Memory Settings The chair will move to the memory position only while the required memory button is being pressed and the functions will stop when the set position is reached. ALL functions operate at the same time until they reach their set position.
Optional Memory System Where a memory system is provided, this will store up to three (3) positions which can be selected with a single press of the designated button on the foot control assembly.
Once the chair has reached a memory position, it may be re-positioned by use of the foot switches as required.
WARNING: Patients should be supervised while memory systems are functioning. In particular, they should be supervised at all times during adjustments of height or upholstery angles.
