SPECIFICATION
The Ventilated Specimen Table (VST) is designed for pathological and histological dissection and staining. The VST is fitted with a fume extraction system and if required can be fitted with many options including a sink, macerator (waste disposal unit) or sluice. The VST provides complete open-bench working, with access from either side when used in island or peninsular situations. The unit is supported in a stainless steel frame which is adjustable for levelling using adjustable feet. The VST comprises a plenum/sump containing remote operated sparge and fume extraction system. A sink, when fitted, is supplied with a hot and cold water shower mixer tap, single wrist action cold water tap and sparge control valve. The hot and cold water shower mixer tap hand spray extends to aid in the cleaning of the table and retracts when not in use. A perforated worktop is located above the plenum area. Each section can be independently removed to gain access to the sump.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS WARNING It is the operator’s responsibility to check the operation of the extraction system prior to commencing work. To operate the hand spray set, remove from its housing socket, point in the direction required and press the button. DO NOT direct the spray directly at the extract duct. The control valve located on the worktop operates the sump wash down system. Turn the valve anti-clockwise to operate – clockwise to turn off. Varying the amount the valve is opened can control the flow. The single cold water tap can be operated by turning the lever. Varying the amount the level is opened can control the flow.

CLEANING
When using a hand spray or hose to wash down, always spray downward. When cleaning the sump DO NOT Spray water into the extract duct. The unit is made from 316 stainless steel, therefore normal cleaning agents used in the Autopsy Room are satisfactory. Should more aggressive cleaning agents be used containing chlorine, the equipment should be rinsed thoroughly with warm water. Remove the access panels as necessary to clean inside the table i.e. for blocked ducts and waste traps. It is normal that the sparge wash system is operated by means of the remote valve at the end of a specimen trimming session.
Warning !
If fine perforated worktop is fitted, it will not prevent biopsy specimens falling through to the sump. Special care should be taken when trimming biopsy specimens.

INSPECTION / MAINTENANCE Inspections should be carried out approx every 12 months, unless the operating conditions and the environment require shorter intervals. Maintenance work should not be carried out without the consent of AFOS Ltd. Please contact our Customer Services department.
