Your Carino height adjustable hygiene chair is part of a series of quality products designed especially for hospitals, nursing homes and other health care use. Please read this manual thoroughly! Please read this manual in its entirety before using your Carino height adjustable hygiene chair. Information in the manual is crucial to the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment, and will help protect your product and ensure that equipment performs to your satisfaction. Some of the information in this manual is important for your safety and must be read and understood to help prevent possible injury. ArjoHuntleigh strongly advise and warn that only ArjoHuntleigh designed parts, which are designed for the purpose, should be used on equipment and other appliances supplied by ArjoHuntleigh, to avoid injuries caused by using inadequate parts. Unauthorized modifications on any ArjoHuntleigh equipment may affect its safety. ArjoHuntleigh will not be held responsible for any accidents, incidents or lack of performance that occur as a result of any unauthorized modification to its products. Service and Support Service should be performed regularly on your Carino every year by ArjoHuntleigh qualified personnel to ensure the safety and daily operation of your product. Intended Use The equipment must be used in accordance with these safety instructions. Anyone using the equipment must also have read and understood the instructions in this manual. If there is anything you are not sure about, contact your ArjoHuntleigh representative.

WARNING Modifications made to the equipment without expressed written consent of ArjoHuntleigh will invalidate the supplier’s product liability.

NOTE All materials used in this product complies with established biocompatibility standards and have been tested accordingly (ISO 10993).

Intended use This equipment is intended for hygiene care, showering and toileting of hospital or care facility residents. The transfer into a Carino can be made with a standing and raising aid. The Carino equipment must be used by appropriately trained caregivers with adequate knowledge of the care environment, its common practices and procedures and in accordance with the guidelines in the Instructions for Use (this document). The expected lifetime of this equipment is (10) years, subject to preventative maintenance being carried out in accordance to the instructions for Care and Maintenance. Resident assessment We recommend that facilities establish regular assessment routines. Caregivers should assess each resident according to the following criteria prior to use: •

The resident’s weight should not exceed 140 kg (309 lb.). • The resident should be active or semiactive (i.e. able to sit upright, self-supported on the side of a bed or toilet). • The resident should understand and respond to instructions to stay seated in an upright position. If a resident does not meet these criteria an alternative hygiene chair shall be used. Battery charger This charger is only intended for charging ArjoHuntleigh battery NEA 0100, in accordance with the instructions outlined in the Instructions for Use.

Warnings To avoid the possibility of injury always ensure that: • the equipment is used by appropriately trained staff. • Carino is moved with care, especially in narrow passages and over uneven surfaces. • the resident’s arms are crossed over the chest during transportation. • the resident’s feet are placed on the foot support or legs on the leg support during transport while keeping the chair in lower position. • leg and foot support should not be applied at the same time when lowering the chair. • the resident’s hair is collected and under control to avoid that hair gets tangled in the belt while lifting or lowering the chair. • the caregiver does not have a foot on the chassis when the chair is lowered. • the brakes are applied when moving the resident to or from Carino. • safety straps are in good condition and properly fastened. • the slope of the floor does not exceed the gradient of 1:50 (1.15°). • when Carino is not in use, store it where the humidity does not exceeds 95% at 30°C (86°F). • the ambient temperature range when storing Carino should be between -25°C to +30°C (+13°F to + 86°F). • Do not lift the Carino by the arm rests or the chair. Lift the chassis.

Battery charger safety practices: • The charger is designed for dry areas only and for normal air humidity conditions. • Don’t expose the charger to water or dust. • Do not cover the charger. Battery safety practices: • Only use the charger supplied with the equipment. • Do not charge battery in a confined space. • Be careful not to drop the battery. • Do not place battery near a heat source or fire. • Do not short-circuit the battery. • Do not store battery at a temperature higher than 25 °C (77 °F). • Do not crush, puncture, open, dismantle or otherwise mechanically interfere with the battery. • Should the battery casing crack and cause contents to come in contact with skin or clothing, rinse immediately with water. If the contents come in contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention. • Inhalation of the contents can cause respiratory irritation. Sensitivity of nickel can cause allergies and asthma. Provide fresh air and medical attention. • Contact the appropriate local authority for advice when disposing the battery. • Check labels on the battery.

Do not expose the battery or charger to flames. Do not expose the battery connector to water. Do not connect or disconnect battery or charger in presence of inflammable anesthetic gases. A spark can ignite the gas.

Do not overload the Carino! It has a safe working load of 140 kg (309 lb.)

WARNING Do not leave the resident unattended at any time.

Preparations Actions before the first use (9 steps)

Action before every use

1 Visually check the package for damage. If the product looks damaged make a complaint to the transport agency.

Check that all parts of the lift are in place. Compare to Part Designations page in this manual.

2 The packaging should be recycled according to local regulations. 3 Check that all parts of the product are supplied. Compare with the product description in this manual. If any part is missing or damaged - do not use the product. 4 Unpack the battery charger. Select and attach the adapter correctly suited to your power outlet. See “Battery and Battery charger” in this manual. 5 Charge each battery for a minimum of 14 hours (Japan 3.5 hours). 6 Clean the product according to “cleaning and disinfecting instructions” in this manual. 7 Prepare an area that is dry and with good ventilation for storage of the lift. 8 Choose a designated area, where the Instructions for Use should be kept and is accessible at all times for the users. 9 If you have any questions, please contact your local ArjoHuntleigh representative for support and service. Product description and functions The Carino has a total of 17 descriptions and functions.

Driving handles (4a - c)

Lifting function (high/low) (1) The chair can be adjusted to a suitable height over the toilet and to a comfortable height during showering. The higher the Carino chair is raised, the more reclined the resident’s position will be. Leg rests (2a - b) Supporting the resident’s legs gives the caregiver a correct working posture for example during a pedicure. The leg rests also give support to the resident’s legs during transport. Press the leg rest connector (2a) while folding out the leg rest.

WARNING

The leg rests are adjustable in three different positions depending on the length of the resident. Adjust the position of the leg rest by removing the leg support and snap it back in to one of the three preferable heights (2b). CAUTION If the leg rest connector is not pressed in, the leg rest may break during the folding process.

Never use the chassis side bars as handle bars because there is a risk of getting fingers jammed. This applies to both the resident and the caregiver. The correct hand positioning for the caregiver during transport or positioning is on the driving handles behind the back rest (4a) and integrated front arm rest (4b). Do not grab the chassis side bars (4c). Castors (5a - b) The Carino is equipped with four lockable castors. Press down the brake pedal with your foot to brake (5a) and press it forward to release the brake (5b). To get the full effect apply brakes on all four castors. Safety strap (6) The strap will secure the resident in the chair. Fasten at the knobs on either side of the back rest and adjust the length by selecting the appropriate hole.

Foot supports (3)

WARNING Never use the foot supports as a foot step while getting in or out of the hygiene chair. Fold out the foot support to let the resident rest their feet during transport in lower positions and during toileting.

Hand control (7) The hand control has an integrated hook, making it easier to attach it to various parts of the chair. A set of buttons marked with arrows pointing upwards or downwards controls the raising and lowering of the chair. Seat (8) The seat has a comfortable design and can be folded up for cleaning and disinfecting. The seat is fixed in its normal position by a snap-in attachment on the front edge of the seat. For optimal ergonomics during cleaning and disinfecting, fold the seat up with the Carino in a comfortable height. Battery (9) The battery is placed at the left side of the chair. See instruction for battery and battery charger. NOTE Ensure that the rounded ridge of the battery is turned upwards. Battery charger (10) The battery holder should be attached to a suitable wall and charger connected to a properly grounded wall socket. See instruction for battery and battery charger.

Neck pillow (11a) The neck pillow gives comfort and support during transport and showering. Back pillow (accessory) (11b) The back pillow supports the back and it’s easy to adjust based on the resident’s height. Seat cushion (accessory) (12) The seat cushion can be used for pressure sensitive residents. Bedpan (accessory) (13)

WARNING ALWAYS visually ensure that male genitals do not slide under the seat and get pinched while inserting the bedpan. The bed pan can be fitted from the back under the seat. Toilet Adapter (accessory) (14) The toilet adapter is used as a protection between the toilet chair and Carino to prevent splashing during toilet visits. It can be fitted from the back under the seat just like the bedpan.

NOTE Use the battery charger in a dry location. Do not install in bathrooms or any other wet areas.

Emergency Stop (15) In case of an emergency, all functions can be stopped by pushing the red button on the left side of the lifting unit. NOTE To reset the emergency stop function, turn the red button clockwise. CAUTION This emergency stop function should ONLY be used in an emergency. If the emergency stop has been used due to malfunction, contact an ArjoHuntleigh Service Technician for general inspection of the Carino.

Emergency Lowering (16)

WARNING

Stop pressing the emergency lowering button when the hygiene chair stops. By continuing to press the button it will feed the lifting strap backwards and the button operation will become reversed. Contact an ArjoHuntleigh service technician if this occurs.

If an electrical failure occurs to the hand control, the chair can be lowered with the press of a button. The emergency lowering button is located under the lifting unit. First: Remove the orange plug. Second: Press the emergency lowering button with your finger. Automatic Safety Stop (17) When a surrounding object stops the raising or lowering of the Carino, the automatic safety stop function will activate and stop the chair movement. Move the chair or the obstruction and continue raising or lowering.

Getting the resident seated Independent resident Follow these 9 steps from a standing position or using a walker to Carino.

WARNING Foot rests must be folded away as the resident is getting in or out of the hygiene chair to prevent a fall or injury. 1 Fold away the leg rests and push aside the foot supports. 2 Apply the brakes. 3 Adjust the height of the Carino so that the edge of the seat touches the back of the resident's knees. 4 Undress the lower part of the resident. 5 Let the resident hold on to the arm rest so that he or she can lean on it. 6 Help the resident to sit down. 7 Raise the Carino to a height which is convenient for transport and the resident’s feet just above the foot supports. 8 Apply the foot supports on Carino. 9 Transfer the resident to the shower or the tolilet.

Dependent residents Follow these 13 steps from an active lift (standing and raising aid) to Carino. Follow the separate operating instructions regarding the actual lift. 1 Fold away the leg rests and push aside the foot supports. 2 Apply the brakes on the Carino 3 Place the lift with the resident as close as possible to the Carino. 4 Undress the lower part of the resident. 5 Position the resident straight over the seat of Carino using the active lift. 6 Lower the lift until the resident reaches the seat. 7 Remove the sling. 8 If needed, secure the resident in the Carino with the safety strap. 9 Raise the chair so the resident’s feet are free from the foot plate of the active lift. 10 Remove the active lift. 11 Apply the foot supports on Carino. 12 Lower the Carino so the resident’s feet rest on the foot supports. 13 Transfer the resident to the shower or the toilet.

Transfer There are two different ways to take the Carino hygiene chair with a resident to the shower room or toilet.

WARNING Observe resident s arms and legs to ensure safe passage through narrow doorways. Method 1 The Carino is pushed from the back and the resident’s feet are placed on the foot supports.

Method 2 The Carino is pushed at a comfortable height from the front and the resident does not use foot supports or leg rests.

To the shower Follow these 6 showering steps. 2

NOTE To ease the process, undress the resident before entering the Carino chair. 1 Apply the brakes. 2 Undress the upper part of the residents body. 3 Raise the chair to a comfortable height. 4 Remove the remainder of the resident's lower body clothing. 5 Apply the leg rests. 6 Wash and shower the resident in this ergonomic position. Adjust the height of the chair for a correct working posture while washing the hair or performing a pedicure.

After the shower Drying and dressing A. Independent residents (8 steps) 1 Apply the brakes. 2 Dry all parts of the resident within reach with a towel. Don’t forget the back of the legs. 3 Dress the lower part of the body, as far as possible. 4 Fold away the leg rests and apply the foot supports. 5 Lower the chair. 6 Dress the upper part of the resident’s body. 7 Fold away the foot supports and let the resident stand up on the floor while drying the backside. 8 Finish dressing the lower part of the body

B. Dependent residents (12 steps) 1 Apply the brakes. 2 Dry all parts of the resident within reach with a towel. Don’t forget the back of the legs. 3 Dress the lower part of the body, as far as possible. 4 Fold away the leg rests and apply the foot supports. 5 Lower the chair. 6 Dress the upper part of the residents body. 7 Fold away the foot supports. 8 Bring the active lift (standing and raising aid) in a frontal position close to the Carino so the resident’s feet reach the foot plate of the active lift. 9 Apply back support sling of the active lift. 10 Raise the resident. 11 Dry the backside of the resident. 12 Finish dressing the lower part of the body.
