Safety and Warning Signs Area of Application This equipment is designed for lifting and transferring patients and nursing home inhabitants into and from baths and showers under the supervision of trained and qualified nursing staff and in compliance with the instructions listed in the Operating and Maintenance Instructions.

Never use the Combi lifter if you are uncertain about its operation. Always follow the written safety directions and instructions. Always keep the equipment clean. The patient must be sitting safely and securely to avoid injury. Make sure the wheels and brakes work properly. Make sure that all screws are tightened. Check the height adjustability. Take special care when wheeling across thresholds, uneven floors and through narrow passageways. • Make sure that all parts which may come into contact with the patient’s body are in perfect condition. • The maximum lifting capacity of the Combi lifter is 150 kg. • Make sure that all parts of the sling are in perfect condition. Replace the sling if it is damaged in any way. • Convert the chassis for accommodating patients in a lying position. Batteries: • Do not open, puncture, crush or dismantle batteries or damage them in any other way. • If the battery casing should crack and skin and clothing come into contact with sulphuric acid, wash immediately with water. • If sulphuric acid should get into the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water immediately and consult a doctor. • The regulations of the respective country must be observed for battery disposal. Product Guarantee Modifications made without the manufacturer’s express permission will void the manufacturer’s product guarantee.

CAUTION!

The rear wheels of the lifter must always be in the outer position when the Combi lifter is used with the stretcher or spreader bar.

Only straps carrying the labels (V&VI) which are shown on the next page may be used in connection with this product! The strap must be tested regularly for signs of wear and replaced if necessary. Please consult your local agent if you have any queries with regard to the strap or lifter.

The Combi lifter is operated electrically or hydraulically, the patient can be lifted or lowered by a max. 600 mm using the clearly marked buttons on the handcontrol and hand lever. The Combi lifter can be equipped with different lifting attachments. Adjustable stretcher with mattress, chair or sling. The chair and stretcher are mainly used when the patient is taken for a bath or shower. The stretcher sizes are adapted to the dimensions of the bath tubs.

The chassis is 730 mm long to improve its manoeuvrability through doorways and similar. The large rear wheelbase makes it very stable, the height is 120 mm.

Always check that the chair or stretcher system is attached properly to the Combi lifter!

Operation of the Combi lifter It is important that the patient is sitting or lying properly in the Combi lifter. The patient should be facing the operator at normal chair height during transportation for reasons of comfort and ergonomy (fig. 6).

If the patient is too high during transportation, the lifter can become unstable.

If, for some reason, the stretcher lifter does not react to the commands from the hand-control, the lifter movement can be stopped immediately by opening the battery cover which breaks the battery contact.

Use the hand-control buttons to lift and lower the patient; the ↑ symbol for lifting and the ↓ symbol for lowering (fig. 8). To raise the mechanical Combi lifter, pump the handle, to lower the lifter, press the knob on the top of the pillar (fig. 9).

The rear wheels of the lifter must always be locked when a patient is being moved on or off the lifter. To lock, simply press down on the brake with your foot, and to unlock, press central tab in the brake (fig. 10)

To stabilize the lifter during transportation there is a straight steering device on one of the wheels (fig. 11). Simply fold down the tab and the wheel will go straight as soon as transport begins.

When attaching the sling to the spreader bar, make sure that the safety catches of the hooks (item 1, fig. 12) close correctly.

The safety belt can be attached in two places. The lower loop (item 1, fig. 13) is used for normal lifting , the upper one (item 2, fig. 13) for raising from ground level.

Conversion of the Combi lifter CHAIR The chair lift is a secure seat for the patient when the arm rests are down. The arm rests are simply folded up and down and the shaped pads offer comfortable support. A seat cushion can be put on the chair to increase comfort and reduce the size of the opening. A bedpan holder is also available (fig. 15).

Check that the locking mechanism grips correctly!

The stretcher is in three pieces so that the lifter can be set up on either side of the bed. As soon as the lifter is at the patient’s bedside, the two outer parts are folded up or down so that the patient’s back and legs are as comfortable as possible (fig. 16).

Always secure the patient with the safety belt before transporting. Check the safety belt regularly!

The stretcher has a low rim so that the patient can be moved into and out of bed as comfortably as possible. To attach the stretcher to the Combi lifter it is best to place it on a raised surface such as a bed or table or a wall support (fig. 18), the lifter is then raised until the stretcher engages (fig. 17). The stretcher weighs about 25 kg. For cleaning, the mattress is folded up and simply removed from the stretcher (fig. 19).

SAFETY BELT The spreader bar attached to the Combi lifter holds the safety belt. The different safety belt sizes are colour-coded to distinguish them. Red edge = small, green edge = large The safety belt for visiting the toilet is available in sizes large and extra large. (extra large = blue edge) Max. load 100 kg.

Using the Combi lifter COMBI LIFTER AT THE BEDSIDE With chair or stretcher The chair or stretcher is recommended for bathing the patient. 1. Lower the sides of the patient’s bed and turn the patient onto his side. With chair: Raise the arm rests and push the chair onto the bed. With stretcher: Position the stretcher over the bed. 2. Bring the Combi lifter into the correct position and then lower the chair or stretcher onto the mattress until it is lying on it properly. 3. Put the brakes on the wheels. 4. With chair: Lower the front handrail and help the patient to sit on it. As soon as the patient is seated, lower the back handrail. With stretcher: Place the patient on his back and make sure he is lying correctly on the stretcher. 5. With stretcher: Attach the safety belt. The stretcher lifter is equipped with two safety belts as standard. The chest strap is fixed to a knob on the side of the stretcher plate. Pull the strap over the patient’s chest behind the back rest and fix it to the knob on the back. The hip strap is fixed to knob (A). Pull the strap around the patient’s hips under the stretcher and fix it to the knob on the back (B). 6. Release the wheel brakes and raise the lifter so that it can be removed from the bed. 7. Then lower the lifter to transportation level and transport the patient.

With sling 1. Turn the patient on his side. 2. Place the sling on the bed behind the patient, putting the front third underneath him. 3. Push the sling as far as possible under the patient, then roll him onto it so that the part folded under him can be pulled out. 4. Put the lower part of the sling around the patient’s legs and fasten the ends together with the Velcro fastener. Make sure the patient is sitting in the middle of the sling and that the lower part of his back is covered.

5. The Combi lifter must be brought close enough to the bed that the shoulder straps of the sling can be fastened to the spreader bar. 6. Put on the shoulder straps. 7. Lower the spreader bar a little if necessary but ensure that it is not in the patient’s way. 8. Make sure that the sling is attached at all four points. Then lift the patient carefully using the hand-control or hand lever. 9. Transport the patient at normal sitting height and facing the operator. The patient is lifted from a wheelchair into the chair lift as follows: 1. Check that the wheelchair brakes are on correctly then fold down one side and the foot rest. 2. Lower the Combi lifter to the height of the wheelchair seat and bring the lifter seat as close as possible to the wheelchair. It is best if the two seats overlap. 3. Apply the brakes to the Combi lifter’s wheels. 4. Push the patient from the wheelchair onto the lifter seat. 5. Ensure that the patient’s feet are on the chassis and his hands are on the hand rails. The patient is lifted from a chair or wheelchair as follows: 1. Place the patient in the sling so that the lower part of the back is well covered and the head rest is behind the head. Pull the two leg pieces under the upper thighs so that they come out between the thighs. 2. Bring the Combi lifter close enough to the bed that the shoulder straps of the sling can be fastened to the spreader bar. 3. Put on the shoulder straps. 4. Lower the spreader bar a little if necessary but ensure that it is not in the patient’s way. 5. Make sure that the sling is attached at all four points. Then lift the patient carefully using the hand-control or hand lever. 6. Transport the patient at normal sitting height and facing the operator. Max. load 100 kg.

The sling for using the toilet is unsuitable for longer transport with the Combi lifter!!

COMBI LIFTER FOR TOILET USE For toilet use, it is best to equip the Combi lifter with the WC sling. 1. Putting on the WC sling is described under “Combi lifter at the bedside”. 2. Transport the patient to the toilet. 3. Apply the brakes to the lifter’s wheels. 4. Remove the patient’s lower underclothing. 5. Bring the patient into a comfortable sitting position on the toilet. The sling for using the toilet is unsuitable for longer transport with the Combi lifter! Ensure that the patient holds the strap properly to prevent him slipping out of the sling.

COMBI LIFTER FOR LIFTING FROM THE GROUND If the patient is lying on the ground he can be lifted with the Combi lifter and sling. 1. Putting on the sling is described under “Combi lifter at the bedside”. 2. Bring the Combi lifter into the correct position. 3. Lower the spreader bar and apply the brakes to the lifter’s wheels. 4. First fasten the sling shoulder straps to the spreader bar. Fasten the two shoulder straps of the sling to the two outer hooks of the crossbar with the upper loop. 5. Hold the patient in a seated position and fasten the leg straps to the middle hook of the crossbar with the upper loops. 6. After putting on the sling correctly, lift the patient carefully onto a chair. 7. Hang in the loops of the sling with the lower loops and transport the patient as far as his bed.

All four straps of the sling must be correctly attached to the spreader bar! The safety catches on the hooks must close perfectly!

COMBI LIFTER AT THE BATH TUB Use either the chair or the stretcher lift to bath the patient.

When raising or lowering from the Combi lifter or bath tub, the patient’s hands must be on his belly, not under the seat or stretcher.

1. Raise the seat or stretcher until it is level with the edge of the bath tub. Position the patient over the bath. 2. Apply the brakes to the Combi lifter’s wheels. 3. Set the bath tub at the desired working height. 4. Lower the Combi lifter until the chair or stretcher is sitting in the bath. 5. Take the safety belt off the patient. 6. Bath the patient. 7. After the bath, let out the water and put on the safety belt again. Lower the bath tub and let the water drip from the patient. 8. Dry the patient.

Maintenance CLEANING THE COMBI LIFTER Clean with soapsuds or a detergent and warm water (40-60°C). A sponge or soft brush may be used. Rinse with clear water. In hard water areas, rub down afterwards with a damp cloth to prevent limescale.

Do not use solvents containing mineral oils, trichlorethylene etc. since these agents attack plastic. When using a hot air drier, the temperature may not exceed 80°C.

Cleaning the sling Check the sling for cleanliness after every patient. Clean in accordance with the washing label. Drip dry, do not wring.

Cleaning the stretcher mattress Clean by hand with soapsuds or a detergent and warm water (40-60°C). Rinse with clear water and rub down with a damp cloth. For drying, the mattress is folded up and simply removed from the stretcher.

Check the mattress and the safety belts for damage when cleaning. Replace all damaged parts immediately. fig.46

BATTERY CARE Charging intervals Regular charging is recommended to prolong the life of the battery i.e. every night. When the lifter is used frequently, two batteries are recommended – one in use and one in the charger.

Battery charge signal The warning light of the pillar starts flashing when the battery charge is low. It must then be recharged promptly (fig. 48).

Caution! A flashing warning light means: Urgent! It is best to charge the battery before this happens.

Function stop If, for some reason, the stretcher lifter does not react to the commands from the hand-control, the lifter movement can be stopped immediately by opening the battery cover which breaks the battery contact (fig. 49).

Charging the battery Remove the battery cover (1), unplug the battery connector (2), tilt the top of the battery (3) with one hand and take it out of its casing with the other hand. The battery is heavy so be careful not to drop it!

Hold the plug firmly when unplugging the battery connector.

The charger must be plugged into an earthed AC socket. Put the battery into the charger (1). Plug the battery connector into the charger’s contact (2). When the indicator light goes out, the battery is charged (3).
