SmartSite® Positive Bolus Needle-Free Valve user’s guide Alaris® Products Instructions The SmartSite® Positive Bolus Needle-Free Valve is designed to permit  Straight through fluid path equal to an 18 g needle  injection and aspiration of fluids without the use of needles. Prepare SmartSite® Positive Bolus  SmartSite® Positive Bolus Needle-Free Valve  Needle-Free Valve Prior to every access, always swab the top of the SmartSite® Positive Bolus Valve port with a sterile 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe and allow to dry. For multiple syringes, swab prior to each syringe access. Attach luer Insert the luer tip into the valve. If syringe has a luer-lock collar, turn syringe clockwise to secure the connection. If syringe has a slip luer, insert and rotate 1/4 turn to secure the connection. Inject or aspirate fluid. Do not leave slip luer syringes unattended. Disconnect luer Upon removal of a luer from the valve, a positive displacement of fluid will occur to reduce retrograde flow into the catheter lumen.  Apply clamp Apply clamp after disconnecting luer.  Note – professional standards of practice require:  Key specifications Priming volume1  valve: 0.12mL  Residual volume2  valve: 0.14mL  Flow rate  5000 mL/hr4  Vascular access devices should be flushed according to professional standards of practice and facility protocol 9200 mL/hr3  Replace every 72 hours or 100 activations which ever occurs first.
