Continualmonitoringisrequiredwhentheproductisusedforindividualsneeding specialsupervision,suchaschildren. 8. Thehygienecoverdoesnotallowliquidorairtopenetrate,butisvapour permeable.Makesurethatthepatientispositionedcorrectlytoavoidtheriskof suffocation. 9. Preventdamagetothehygienecoverfromsharpobjects.

1.Introduction CuroCellS.A.M.®isastaticairmattressthatcanbeusedinallkindsofcaringenvironments anditisveryfunctionalandcosteffective.Itisanoverlaymattress,tobeplacedontopofan existingmattress.Itisusedpreventativeandasanaidintreatmentofpressureulcersupto degree2. Usethismanualwhenthesystemisinstalledandstartedforthefirsttime,andkeepitfor futurereference.

1.2Intendeduse CuroCellS.A.M.®isastaticairmattressandisintendedtobeusedtominimizetheriskof pressureulcers.Itisusedpreventativeandasanaidintreatmentofpressureulcersupto degree2anditcanbeusedinallkindsofcaringenvironments.Themattressisintendedfor userweightsupto200kg.Themattressmustalwaysbecleanedbetweenpatients.

Appropriateairpressureissetbetween1and8. Thetableonthepumpgivesguidance.

3.1Installation Whenunpackingthemattress,checkthatnoneofthepartsaredamaged.Intheeventof damage,contactCareofSwedenABoryourlocaldealerbeforeusingtheproduct. 1.Placethemattressontopofanexistingmattress.Ifpossible,secureitbypullingtheelastic bandsonthebottomoverthecornersoftheunderlyingmattress. 2.Hangthepumpbythefootendofthebed,orplaceit onaflatsturdysurface.Placethepowercordsothere isnoriskofstumblingoverit,runitoverwiththebed wheels,orgettingitjammedwhenraisingorlowering thebed. NOTE! Apumpbagisavailableas anoption. 3.Connecttheairtubescomingfromthemattressto thesideofthepump. 4.Checktomakesurethatthepowerissetto’0’(off). Pluginthepowercordintoanapprovedoutlet(220V).

3.2StartͲup
NOTE!Alwaysreadtheusermanualpriortousage. 1.Startthepumpbypressing’1’(on),onthesideofthepump.Thegreenlightislit. 2.Thepumpstartsfillingthemattresswithair.Ittakesapproximately15Ͳ20minutesbefore themattressisreadytouse.
3.3Comfortsettings Theairpressureinthemattresscanbeadjustedaccordingtouserpreference.Alwaysconsult theprescriberorotherauthorizedpersonnelforthecorrectsetting. Whenthemattressisfilled,itisreadytobeused.Placetheuseronthemattressandadjust thepressurewiththecomfortsettingknobaccordingtothetableonthepump.
NOTE! ͲWhentheheadendofthebedisraised,thepressureshouldbeincreasedatleastone(1)step. ͲForamputatedusers,whenonlypartofthemattressisunderload,thepressureshouldbe increasedby1Ͳ2steps. ͲRecommendedusersweight is 0Ͳ200kg.
3.4Handcheck Handcheckisusedtoensurethatthemattressisproperlyinflated.Thisshouldbedone regularly,oncepershift,afterchangingthepositioninthebedorchangingthecomfort settings. Openthecover.Placeaflathandundertheaircellsdirectlyunderneaththeuser’spelvic regionandmakesurethattheuserdoesnotlaydirectlyontheunderlyingmattress.There shouldbeabout1Ͳ2fingersmargin. Ifyoucanfeeltheuser´sbodyrestingonyourhandyouneedtoincreasethecomfortsettings tonexthigheststep.Wait10minutesandperformanewhandcheck. 8
3.5CPR IncaseofanemergencywhereCPR(cardiopulmonaryresuscitation)is necessary:RapidlypulltheCPRbandonthetubesbetweenthepump andthemattress.Removethetubeconnectionsonthesideofthe pump,forevenfasterdeflation. Note!MakesurethattheCPRconnectorisproperlyconnectedafteruse.
3.6Lowpressure Byanabnormallylowairpressure,seechapter8fortroubleshooting.
WARNING! Iftheairpressureremainslow,searchfordamagesonthemattressandthetubes.Repairwhen neededorcontactthesupplier.

4.1Installation Whenunpackingthemattress,checkthatnopartsaredamaged.Ifdamagesaredetected, contactthesupplierbeforeusingtheproduct. 1.Placethemattressontopofanexistingmattress.Ifpossible,secureitbypullingtheelastic bandsonthebottomoverthecornersoftheunderlyingmattress 2.Connecttheconnectiontubestothemattress.Thesearetobeconnectedbythefootendof themattressandcanbefoundbyopeningthehygienecover.Whentheyareconnected,close thezipfastener. 3.Hangthepumpbythefootendofthebed,orplaceit onaflatsturdysurface.Placethepowercordsothere isnoriskofstumblingoverit,runitoverwiththebed wheels,orgettingitjammedwhenraisingorlowering thebed. NOTE! ͲThemattressandpumpshallbecheckedregularly.Checkmattressbyusingthe‘handͲcheck’ (seechapter4.4).Ifneeded,reconnectthepumpandadjustthepressureusingthepump. ͲIfthepumpisnotconstantlyconnectedtothemattress,werecommendthatthepumpis connectedonceaweekandstep5and6inchapter4.2arerepeated.
4.3Comfortsettings Theairpressureinthemattresscanbeadjustedaccordingtouserpreference.Alwaysconsult theprescriberorotherauthorizedpersonnelforthecorrectsetting.
NOTE! ͲWhentheheadendofthebedisraised,thepressureshouldbeincreasedbyone(1). ͲForamputatedusers,whenonlypartofthemattressisunderload,thepressureshouldbe increased(by1Ͳ2steps). ͲRecommendeduserweight:0Ͳ200 kg.

4.5Deflationofair(CPR) Afterusingthemattress,itisemptiedbyconnectingtheairtubestothe mattress,withoutthetubesbeingconnectedtothepump.Thesame procedureisusedif,forexample,rapiddeflationforCPRisneeded.
4.6Lowpressure Byanabnormallylowairpressure,seechapter8forTroubleShooting.

5.Cleaningandreconditioning Itisimportanttofollowtheinstructionsbelowbeforeusingtheproductforadifferentuser. Consultthehygieneresponsibleorthesupplierforhelpandinstructionswhenunsure.
5.1Normalcleaning Pump
WARNING! DonotopenthepumphousingͲdangerofelectricalshock.Serviceandmaintenanceshouldbe performedbyanauthorizedservicetechnician.
WARNING! Donotgetthepumpwet! Wipeoffthepumpwithadampclothandamildcleaningagent.Ifneeded,useanalcoholͲ basedagenttodisinfect.Ifotheragentsareneeded,chooseonethatwillnoteffecttheplastic casingofthepump. Mattresscover Wipeoffwithamildcleaningagentandwater,ordisinfectwithanalcoholͲbasedcleaning agent.Excrementandbloodspotsaretoberemovedimmediatelywithcoldwater.Followthe localinstructionsandthecleaningagents’instructionscarefully. Chlorideandphenolicbasedproductsshouldbeavoidedforcleaning,sincetheycaneffectthe coversurfaceinanegativeway.Ifchloridestillisused,werecommenddilutingittomaximum 1%. Thecovercanbemachinewashedinmax.95°C,tumbledorhangeddry. Innercover(accessory) Canbemachinewashedinmax.60Ͳ70°C,tumbledorhangeddry. 13
5.2Reconditioning Pump Seeinstructionchapter5.1. Mattress 1.Removethecoverandinnercover(ifpresent). 2.Disconnectthetubesfromthepumpandlettheairoutofthemattress. 3.Movethemattresstoacleanandsuitablecleaningarea. 4.Wipeoffthecells,accessibletubesandCPRͲvalvewithanalcoholͲbasedcleaningagent.Let itdry. 5.WipeoffthecleaningareawithanalcoholͲbasedcleaningagent. Mattresscover Seeinstructionchapter5.1.
NOTE! Checkthehygienecovereverytimeitiscleaned.Ifthecoverisdamaged,itmustbereplacedor repaired.Alsocheckthepumpandpowercordwhencleaning.Damagedpartsmustberepaired orreplaced.
6.Storageandpacking Itisadvisabletostorethemattressandpumpintheproductbag(accessory).Handlethe packedproductverycarefully.Donotplaceanyheavyobjectsontopofit.

7.Maintenance

8.Troubleshooting Problem Solution Thepumpdoesnotstart Checkthatthepowercordisconnectedtoanelectricaloutlet. CheckthatallfusesareOK. Theuserliesdirectly Pressuremightbeincorrectlyset.Adjustitaccordingtothe onthebed weighttable,andwaitafewminutes.Checkagainusingthe ‘handcheck’,seechapter3.4/4.4. NOT!Ifyouusemodel2thesupportpumpmustbeconnected first. CheckthattheCPRͲvalveisclosed(onlyformodel1) Themattressmovesaround Checkthatthemattressissecuredwiththeelasticbandstothe underlyingmattress. Thepumpmakesanoise, Checkthatthepumphangscorrectlyonthebed.Resonance orvibrates inpartsofthebedcanoccur.Removethepumpandlistenfora difference.Thiscanbefixedbyplacingthepumponthefloor. 12.2Serviceandrepairs ThisCuroCell®mattressisamedicaldevice,inaccordancewithMDD93/42/EEC,thatisused asanaidinpreventingandtreatingbedsores.Forthisreason,werecommendthatthepump beregularlyservicedandinspectedtomaintainfunctionalityandperformance(readabout annualservicebelow).Likeothertechnicaldevices,apumpthatisproperlycaredforworks betterandlastslonger. DuringanannualservicingthepumpisthoroughlyinspectedandservicedbyourService department. ServiceandmaintenancemustalwaysbeperformedbyCareofSwedenABoroneofits authorisedtechnicians.OnlyusesparepartsthathavebeenapprovedbyCareofSwedenAB. UseofnonͲapprovedsparepartsinvalidatethewarranty.
