GE Medical Systems Information Technologies Protecting Your Battery Investment KEEPING YOUR BATTERY PACK READY FOR RELIABLE SERVICE The following information pertains to the Sm-Energy Model SM201-003 rechargeable battery only. For earlier versions of the battery, please reference the monitor service manual. The monitor plays a key part in delivering patient care, and it is important that you can count on your battery. To maintain the life and performance of your batteries, the battery requires regular care and proper use and storage. To get the best performance from your battery, GE Medical Systems Information Technologies recommends the following care. Understanding Battery Basics The battery pack consists of nine Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) cells with an integrated electronic fuel gauge and safety protection circuitry. There are three keys to understanding the basics of Lithium-Ion battery technology: 2. The key characteristic of the battery is its full charge capacity – the amount of charge the battery can store and deliver to the monitor at a specific point in time. Over time, Li-Ion cells permanently lose the charge capacity they had when they were new, resulting in a decrease in battery runtime from when the battery was new, even when the battery is charged to full capacity. 3. The capacity of Li-Ion cells degrades significantly at higher temperatures. In addition, the cells self-discharge twice as fast for every 10°C (18°F) rise in temperature. To get the longest life and best performance from the battery, keep your monitor away from heat sources. Do not place it near a heat vent or near heat-generating equipment, such as computer monitors. Avoid placing it in corners where the airflow may be restricted. 1. The Li-Ion battery pack will discharge on its own, even if not installed in a monitor. This is because the battery pack draws electric current to power its own integrated electronics, and because the Li-Ion cells naturally self-discharge. Note: Standard warranty on batteries is 90 days from date of installation. imagination at work
