1. EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION The 3500 Active Care Console is an affordable falls management and nurse call solution for a small home or hospital ward. Caregivers can conveniently read a large LED display from a distance, and the console can forward signals to a 3501 ActiveCare Pager that will display call type and device ID. Alarms can be reset using a wireless reset button, pager, or at the console. Straightforward programming allows users to quickly set up the system, and easily add/remove devices based on changes in daily requirements. This 3500 ActiveCare Console is designed to work with the cura1 range of Cordless Bed/Chair Pads, Under Mattress Pads, Floor Mats and wireless devices. Cordless Bed/Chair Pads, Under Mattress Pads and Floor Mats contain a 2719 Transmitter Insert, which sends alarm signals to the Console. (See point 5. System Operation for 2719 Transmitter activation procedure) When used with a Cordless Bed Pad, Under Mattress Pad or Chair Pad, the 2719 Cordless Transmitter Insert detects changes in the pad caused by a patient or resident rising or falling from a bed or chair. If this occurs the transmitter Insert sends a signal to the 3500 ActiveCare Console, which then activates an alarm. Bed Pads are typically placed under the bed sheets, but on top of the mattress, in the patient or resident’s bed. Chair pads are typically placed directly on the seat of the chair used by the patient or resident. Under mattress Pads are typically placed under the mattress of the patient or residents bed. When used with a Cordless Floor Mat, the 2719 Cordless Transmitter Insert detects changes in the Floor Mat caused by a patient or resident stepping onto the mat. If this occurs the Transmitter Insert sends a signal to the 3500 ActiveCare Console, which then activates an alarm. Floor mats are typically placed adjacent to the bed or in the doorway of the patient or resident’s bedroom. Note: Maximum distance between the 2719 transmitter and the Console is 30m. This 3500 ActiveCare Console is also designed to work with the 2552 cura1 DoorAlert Door Monitoring System for wandering residents or patients. When the 2552 DoorAlert Door Strip alarm is activated, the 3500 ActiveCare Console will also go into alarm and display the Door ID of the door that is in alarm. The 2552 DoorAlert Door Monitor does not need to be paired with the ActiveCare Console and will receive all door alert alarms by automatically. Up to sixty Cordless Bed/Chair Pads, Under Mattress Pads, Floor Mats or wireless devices in any combination can be used simultaneously with each ActiveCare Console. The 3500 ActiveCare Console itself is typically installed in a central nurses’ station or central area.

2. EQUIPMENT BATTERY LIFE The 3500 ActiveCare Console is powered from a 12 VDC power adaptor (2404) and must have 6 x AA alkaline batteries as a battery backup. The batteries will provide 4 to 8 hours of operation in the event of power loss from the unit. Under normal operation the unit should always be plugged into a power source. Once power is connected the “Power” LED will illuminate. The “Power” LED will flash in the event that the unit is running on batteries only and a beep will sound if the mains power is lost. The guaranteed lifetime of the batteries in the 2719 Cordless Pad Transmitter Insert is 12 months. These batteries cannot be replaced and when they expire the transmitter Insert should be disposed of and replaced with a new one.

3. LOW BATTERY DETECTION (CONSOLE) If the batteries in the unit become low, the 3500 ActiveCare Console will beep intermittently. The “Panel Battery” Light on the front of the Console will also illuminate. The batteries should then be replaced immediately. The “Panel Battery” warning sound can be silenced by pressing the “Reset” Button on the front of the console. The battery warning sound will return after approximately 24 hours if the batteries are not replaced. This alarm and sound will continue until the batteries are replaced. The batteries are housed inside a compartment in the 3500 ActiveCare Console. They can be replaced by loosening the central screw on the back of the unit and removing the battery compartment cover to access the battery compartment.

4. LOW BATTERY DETECTION (PAD TRANSMITTERS) If the batteries on a pad transmitter become low, the 3500 ActiveCare Console will beep and the Slot number of the pad transmitter that has a battery low condition will display and flash e.g. “01”, the “Device Battery” LED will also flash. The audible sound can be stopped by pressing the “Reset” button once while the alarm condition is being displayed. Pressing and holding the “Reset” button will clear the Slot Number from the display however the “Device Battery” LED will continue flashing until the pad transmitter is removed from memory (see point 6 System Operation – Deleting wireless devices) and replaced with a new one.

5. MISSING AC MAINS POWER SUPPLY DETECTION If operating from batteries and the 12VDC plug pack is connected to mains power, the 3500 ActiveCare Console has mains power loss detection. When the plug pack is removed or loses mains power, the Monitor will beep every 3 seconds and the “Power” LED will flash. The beeping can be stopped by either restoring the mains power or by pressing the front “Reset” button. If the front “Reset” button is pressed the “Power” LED will continue to flash to indicate that power has been lost. Note: After resetting, the missing mains power alert will not reactivate until mains power is restored and then lost again

6. SYSTEM OPERATION Pairing wireless devices Connect a cura1 2404 Plug Pack and Insert 6 X AA alkaline batteries into the 3500 ActiveCare Console. Press and hold the “Program” + “Select2” buttons (located on the front of the Console) for approximately 5 seconds. The Monitor will initiate a long beep and briefly display “PP” to confirm that it is in pairing mode. Now release the buttons. The front display will display the first memory slot “01”. This will always be the default view when entering pairing mode. Using the “Select 1” button which will increment the tens digit and the “Select 2” button which will increment the unit’s digit, to select a desired memory slot from 01 to 60. To add a device to Active Care Console memory, simply turn on the device or trigger an alarm from the device you want to add. The indication LED for the device type will turn on to indicate the memory slot now contains this device type (Call, Pad, or Sensor). Multiple devices can be added to the same memory slot. Note: When adding a Pad Transmitter always turn it from off to on for the paring process

Once devices have been added, using the “Select 1” and “Select 2” to scroll through the memory slots will allow you to see the current devices that have been paired into each slot. Example 1: If a Bed Pad has been paired into Slot “01”, then the “Pad” LED will be on for that slot. Example 2: If a Bed Pad and a Wireless Call Button is paired into Slot “02” then both the “Pad” LED and “Call” LED will be on for that slot. Adding a 2559 Wireless Reset Button to a memory slot will allow the button to reset any active alarms in that slot.

Deleting wireless devices To delete a device from Active Care Console memory, select the memory slot by using the “Select 1” and “Select 2” to scroll through the memory slots and once the desired slot has been selected, hold Reset for approximately 5 seconds. You should see the indication LED (s) turn off to indicate the device(s) are no longer present in memory.

Call buttons and Switches The 3500 ActiveCare Console can be paired with the following call buttons: • 2588 Personal Emergency Transmitter. • 3502 Active Care Wireless Handset. • 2558 Wireless Waterproof Call Button with pullcord. • 3503 Active Care Magnetic Reed Switch (The Magnetic Reed Switch can also be used as a simple call button). To pair a call button or magnetic reed switch, simply follow the procedure above: Pairing Wireless Devices.

Cordless Bed / Chair and Floor Mat Each memory slot of the 3500 ActiveCare Console can be used with either a Cordless Bed Pad, Cordless Chair Pad or with a Cordless Floor Mat. Cordless Bed Pads, Cordless Chair Pads or Cordless Floor Mats are connected to a 2719 Cordless Pad Transmitter Insert, which fits inside a pouch in the Cordless Pad or Mat. There is an ON / OFF switch on the side of the Cordless Pad Transmitter Insert. The switch must be in the ON position for the Cordless Pad Transmitter to operate. Note: When used with a Bed/Chair Pad and pressure is applied to the pad i.e. patient or resident lying down in bed or sitting on the chair, the “Pad” light will flash once every few seconds. This indicates that the Monitor is “Active” and monitoring the patient or resident.

Cordless Bed / Chair Pad Operation When a patient or resident lays down on the bed pad or sits on a chair pad, the 3500 ActiveCare Console will temporarily display the slot number for a few seconds to indicate that the pad is active. If the patient or resident vacates the bed or chair, the Bed/Chair Pad activates the 2719 Cordless Pad Transmitter Insert which then sends a wireless alarm signal to 3500 ActiveCare Console. The 3500 ActiveCare Console begins to alarm immediately, and the display will display the Slot number and the “Pad” LED will light up (e.g. “01“+ “Pad” LED on = Pad Alarm on “01”).

This alarm condition will continue until one of the following events occurs: •

The patient or resident returns to the bed or chair:

In this case, the 2719 Cordless Pad Transmitter Insert sends a wireless reset signal to the 3500 ActiveCare Console, which cancels the alarm condition. The current alarm for that slot will cease and the display will clear. If the patient or resident does not return to the bed or chair, the alarm condition continues until the 3500 ActiveCare Console is manually reset. •

The caregiver resets the 3500 ActiveCare Console:

In this case, if the “Reset” button is pressed, then the alarm will silence but the call will still be displayed on the display. To clear the call press and hold the “Reset” button on the front of the Console until the display clears. The alarm has now been reset.

Cordless Floor Mat Operation If a patient or resident stands on the Floor Mat this activates the 2719 Cordless Pad Transmitter Insert which then sends a wireless alarm signal to 3500 ActiveCare Console. The 3500 ActiveCare Console begins to alarm immediately, and the display will display the Slot number and the “Pad” LED will light up (e.g. “01“+ “Pad” LED on = Pad Alarm on “01”). The alarm condition continues until the 3500 ActiveCare Console is manually reset. To reset the Console, if the “Reset” button is pressed, then the alarm sound will be silenced but the alarm number will still be visible on the display. To clear the alarm completely, press and hold the “Reset” button on the front of the Console until the display clears. The alarm has now been reset. 2719 Activation Procedure: The cura1 2719 Version 7 Transmitter has a factory default setting of “Storage Mode” applied to it. This allows for the transmitter to be turned on before supplying to the end user which preserves the battery life. To activate the 2719 Version 7 transmitter please do the following: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Connect the transmitter to a chair / bed pad or floor mat. Turn on the transmitter. For bed and chair pads press and hold the pad for 15 seconds For floor mats stand on the mat for 15 seconds.

The transmitter is now activated. Please note that if the transmitter is turned off at any stage, then the 15 second activation procedure will have to be performed again.

ActiveCare Console Display Options Below is a list of what is displayed on the 3500 ActiveCare Console’s display for each of the wireless devices that can be used with the Console. Note: If a sensor is stored in Slot “01” and a DoorAlert System has an ID of “01” then they will both come up as “01” with the Sensor/Door LED illuminated so it will not be clear which device is in alarm just by looking at the Console display. It is best to not pair a sensor in a slot ID that is the same as a DoorAlert System. Important: Test system operation after programming and before every use.

7. REVIEWING CALLS When the console is in standby mode (No Calls Displayed on the Console), the Review Button can be pressed to cycle through and review all calls from the last 15 minutes, beginning with the most recent. If there have not been any recent alarms, there will be no display.

8. REVIEWING ACTIVE PADS When no alarms are present on the Console, pressing the “Select 1” button will scroll through and display all active pads in the area.

9. PAD SIGNAL LOST DETECTION Cordless Bed / Chair Pad or Floor Mat For the 3500 ActiveCare Console to be able to monitor for lost pad transmitters, the “Tracking” button on the side of the unit must be moved to the “On” position. Once a Cordless Bed / Chair Pad, Under Mattress Pad or Floor Mat has been paired with the 3500 ActiveCare Console, , if the Console loses the wireless signal connection with the 2719 Cordless Pad Transmitter inside the Pad or Mat for any reason, then after 15 minutes of continuous lost wireless signal connection the Console will go into alarm and the Slot number of the pad transmitter that which has been “lost” will display and flash e.g. “01”, the “Signal Lost” LED will also flash. The audible sound can be stopped by pressing the “Reset” button once while the alarm condition is being displayed. Pressing and holding the “Reset” button will clear the Slot Number from the display however the “Signal Lost” LED will continue flashing. The following conditions may be why a 3500 ActiveCare Console may lose wireless signal connection with the 2719 Cordless Pad Transmitter:

a. The Cordless Pad Transmitter is faulty. Solution: replace the Cordless Pad Transmitter It will be necessary to clear the current memory slot (see point 6 System Operation – Deleting wireless devices) that was occupied by the faulty transmitter and re-pair a new transmitter into the slot. b. The Cordless Pad Transmitter batteries are low. Solution: replace the Cordless Pad Transmitter. It will be necessary to clear the current memory slot (see point 6 System Operation – Deleting wireless devices) that was occupied by the faulty transmitter and re-pair a new transmitter into the slot. c. The Cordless Pad Transmitter is out of range of the Console. Solution: bring the Cordless Pad Transmitter back into range. d. The Cordless Pad Transmitter has been turned off. Solution: Turn on the Pad Transmitter and activate the transmitter as per instructions on page 7.

10. EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION Power Supply Plug Pack: Operation of the Monitor from a suitable 12Vdc plug pack is recommended. A 12Vdc power socket is provided in the side of the 3500 ActiveCare Console. An AC mains power supply general-purpose outlet (GPO) should be provided at a convenient point near to the Console. Plug the 12Vdc plug pack into the GPO and then connect it to the 12Vdc socket in the side of the Console. Switch on the GPO. Batteries: Using a small Phillips type screwdriver, remove the central screw in the rear of the Console and open the battery compartment by removing the cover. Insert 6 x AA batteries into the battery compartment. Note: Whenever a plug pack or battery power is connected the Console will beep once to confirm that power is connected.

Mounting The 3500 ActiveCare Console unit can be fixed to the wall by using the removable bracket that is attached to the back of the Console. Optionally, the Console can simple be placed directly on a table or desk for central monitoring.

11. SETTING UP Adjusting Audible Alarm Volume The volume of the audible alarm in the 3500 ActiveCare Console can be adjusted. This volume control is found on the right-hand side of the Console and is a thumbwheel adjustment labeled “-Volume+”. Volume can be adjusted from off to maximum

Tracking Tracking can be used to check all Cordless Pad Transmitters that are paired with the system that they are still in range and communicating with the system. To enable Tracking, slide the Tracking switch to the “On” position. See page 8, point 9 for further explanation on Pad Signal Lost Detection and Tracking.

Button Lock The “Button Lock” switch will disable the “Program”, “Select 1” and “Select 2” buttons to prevent accidental programming or erasing of wireless devices. Switching to the “On” position will lock these buttons and switching to the “Off” position will allow these buttons to be used.

Alarm Forward The 3500 ActiveCare Console can be configured to Forward calls to 3501 ActiveCare Pagers and additional 3500 ActiveCare Consoles that have been configured as Slaves. To enable Call Forwarding press and hold the “Program” + “Select1” buttons (located on the front of the Console) for approximately 5 seconds. The Monitor will initiate a long beep and briefly display “PP” to confirm that it is in programming mode. Now release the programming button. The front display will display the first memory slot “01”. This will always be the default view when entering programming mode. Now press the “Program” button again until the tens digit displays a “t”. Then using the “Select 2” button to select the setting from the table below:

Area Code Setting an area code can be useful if several consoles are being used in a facility that has different areas, and the calls from one area should not be displayed on the pagers in another area. This will ensure pagers only receive alarms from their specified area. To change the area press and hold the “Program” + “Select1” buttons (located on the front of the Console) for approximately 5 seconds. The Monitor will initiate a long beep and briefly display “PP” to confirm that it is in programming mode. Now release the programming button. The front display will display the first memory slot “01”. This will always be the default view when entering programming mode.

Now press the “Program” button again until the tens digit displays an “A”. Then using the “Select 2” button to select an area code from 0 to 7. Note: The 3501 ActiveCare Pager must be programmed to match the area. Refer to 3501 Active Care Pager Instructions.

Pause Setting This allows a caregiver to pause the console for a programmable interval, allowing patients to be attended to or removed from their beds without triggering an alarm on the Console. This applies only to Pad Transmitters. If a call button is pressed during the pause period, the Console will still go into alarm. To enable pause press and hold the “Program” + “Select1” buttons (located on the front of the Console) for approximately 5 seconds. The Monitor will initiate a long beep and briefly display “PP” to confirm that it is in programming mode. Now release the programming button. The front display will display the first memory slot “01”. This will always be the default view when entering programming mode. Now press the “Program” button again until the tens digit displays a “p”. Then using the “Select 2” button to select the setting from the table below:

Alarm Tone There are two alarm tones that can be selected to play when the 3500 ActiveCare Console goes into alarm. To change the alarm tone press and hold the “Program” + “Select1” buttons (located on the front of the Console) for approximately 5 seconds. The Monitor will initiate a long beep and briefly display “PP” to confirm that it is in programming mode. Now release the programming button. The front display will display the first memory slot “01”. This will always be the default view when entering programming mode. Now press the “Program” button again until the tens digit displays a “b”. Then using the “Select 2” button to select either 1 or 2 Where 1 is an ascending harmonic scale and 2 is a standard beep tone.

Delay Setting This setting only applies to Pad transmitters. It may be useful in certain situations where a caregiver may not need to attend to a patient or resident unless they are out of the bed or chair for a specific period. For example, if the patient or resident has got up to simply use the bathroom then an

immediate alarm is not required but the caregiver will need to know if they have not returned to the bed or chair within a specific timeframe. In these cases, a delay may be set on the Console. To enable the delay setting, press and hold the “Program” + “Select1” buttons (located on the front of the Console) for approximately 5 seconds. The Monitor will initiate a long beep and briefly display “PP” to confirm that it is in programming mode. Now release the programming button. The front display will display the first memory slot “01”. This will always be the default view when entering programming mode. Now press the “Program” button again until the tens digit displays a “d”. Then using the “Select 2” button to select the setting from the table below:

Pager Code Setting a pager code can be useful if several consoles are in use, and will ensure pagers only receive alarms from their designated console. To set a pager code, press and hold the “Program” + “Select1” buttons (located on the front of the Console) for approximately 5 seconds. The Monitor will initiate a long beep and briefly display “PP” to confirm that it is in programming mode. Now release the programming button. The front display will display alarm forwarding “t3”. This will always be the default view when entering programming mode. Now press the “Program” button again until the tens digit displays a “C”. Then using the “Select 2” button to select from 0-9, this setting must match whatever you have selected on the desired pagers “PC” setting.
