English Introduction

• Proper use of the da Vinci Xi EndoWrist Stapler Release Kit (PN 381215) Keep this addendum with your da Vinci Xi System User Documentation.

Overview The Stapler Release Kit (Figure 1) is intended to be used in situations when the da Vinci Xi EndoWrist Stapler jaws will not open. Opening the Stapler jaws using the Stapler Release Kit requires rotating the provided tool in up to three release holes on the instrument, per the instructions on the integrated Stapler Release Kit instruction tag. See the da Vinci Xi EndoWrist Stapler Instruments and Accessories User Manual Addendum for full instructions.

Release hole 2 covered by white flag

Figure 2 Release hole 2 covered by white flag If release hole 2 is not covered by the white flag (Figure 3), rotating the tool in release hole 1 is not required. Attempting to rotate the tool in release hole 1 may result in breaking the tool.

Before using the Stapler Release Kit, examine release hole 2 on the instrument housing. If release hole 2 is covered by a white flag (Figure 2) and is not accessible, the tool must be rotated in release hole 1 first, then release holes 2 and 3.

Guidelines for Using the Stapler Release Kit To avoid breaking the Stapler Release Kit tool: • Follow the manual stapler release instructions found in the da Vinci Xi EndoWrist Stapler Instruments and Accessories User Manual Addendum.

If the Stapler Release Kit tool breaks: • Release hole 2 and/or release hole 3 may be rotated using the tool included in the da Vinci Xi Instrument Release Kit (PN 381216). • If the tool has broken in a release hole, that hole has been fully rotated and it does not require further actuation with the tool. -End-

• Do not continue to rotate the tool in release hole 2 after resistance is felt (up to 12 full turns).
