Important Safety Information 1. Intended Use This product is intended to be used in combination with FUJINON medical Endoscope, processor, monitor, recorder and various peripherals for observation, diagnosis, endoscopic treatment, taking photographs and recording under the management of physicians. Never use this product for any other purposes.
2. Safety Read and understand this manual carefully before use. Use the product by following the provided instructions. Items important for the safe use of the product are summarized in “Chapter 1 Safety.” Safety precautions associated with individual operations or procedures are provided separately, indicated by “
WARNING” and “
CAUTION.”
3. Warning Items that must be observed in particular for the safety when performing endoscopy and electrosurgy are identified by “
WARNING” and “
CAUTION.” Perform procedures
correctly by reading and understanding the warning information carefully.
WARNING Improper use or operation of the equipment may injure patients, physicians, or people in the vicinity. Read and understand this manual carefully before operating this system.
Improper operations that will damage the equipment only are identified by “CAUTION.”
4. Installation The structure of this system allows only service personnel to install it. Have the installation operation performed by the service personnel.

5. Combination of Equipment The Endoscope may be used in combination with peripherals. To avoid an electric shock accident, use only the peripherals that are described in this operation manual.
6. About Clinical Procedures This manual assumes that the product will be used by medical specialists who have received proper training in endoscopic procedures. It does not provide information about clinical procedures. Regarding clinical procedures, use proper clinical judgment.
7. Inspection Before Use Make sure to check the equipment before use according to “Chapter 4 Method of Use,” to avoid unexpected accidents and take full advantage of the product’s capabilities. If the checking results show that there is anything wrong with the equipment, do not use the same equipment.
8. High Voltage The equipment contains high-voltage parts. Do not touch the inside parts except for the specialists.
9. Foreign Matters and Liquid Foreign matters, water and chemicals entering the equipment may cause a fire or electric shock. If liquid has entered the equipment, stop the use of the equipment immediately, disconnect the power plug from the receptacle and contact your local dealer or FUJINON representative.
10. Maintenance The equipment will wear out and degrade after repeated use for a long period. Have it checked by specialists once every six months or once every 300 hours of cumulative powered-on service time. Also have it checked if there is anything wrong with the equipment. Do not disassemble or modify the equipment.

Preface This manual describes how to use the Light Source “XL-4400”. “XL-4400” is used in combination with the processor “VP-4400.” For information on how to use the EPX-4400 System and the combination, refer to the operation manuals of “VP-4400.”

This chapter summarizes the information necessary for safe use of the EVE system.

Chapter 1 Safety 1. Precautions in Using Endoscope 1) Inspection before use Make sure to check the equipment before use according to the procedures provided in this manual, to avoid unexpected accidents, and take full advantages of the equipment’s capabilities. If the checking results show that there is anything wrong with the equipment, do not use the same equipment. 2) Combination of equipment This product may be used in the combination only with processor “VP-4400.” Do not use in combination with other equipment than the above and also as a light source unit for Fiberscope. The Endoscope may be used in combination with peripherals. To avoid an electric shock accident, do not use any peripherals that do not conform to the medical safety standards. 3) Maintenance The equipment will wear out and degrade after repeated use for a long period. Have it checked by specialists once every six months. Also have it checked if there is anything wrong with the equipment. Do not disassemble or modify the equipment. 4) Temperature at distal end When the Endoscope projects light at high brightness for an extended time, the temperature may exceed 41°C at the distal end. Turn off the lamp when you hang the Endoscope on the cart hanger. 5) Electromagnetic wave hindrance This product may show noises on the monitor under the effect of electromagnetic waves. Be sure to turn off the device that will generate electromagnetic waves, or to keep such a device away from the medical equipment.

2. Disposal This product has components that contain cadmium. Cadmium is harmful to humans and the environment. When disposing of the equipment, follow the procedures that comply with the local regulations. For more details, contact a FUJINON distributor in your country.

Chapter 4 Method of Use 4.1 Installation and Connection of Equipment Installation and connection of equipment may cause explosion or ignition. Do not use the equipment in an inflammable gas atmosphere. 4.3 Lighting the Lamp It may damage your eyes. Do not look the lamp directly while the lamp is lighting. Do not look the illumination of Endoscope directly. Chapter 5 Storage and Maintenance 5.2.2 Storage of Water Tank The water tank may be infected. Dry the water tank before storing it. 5.6 Replacing the Main Lamp The lamp may cause an electric shock. To replace the lamp, remove the power plug from the receptacle. Touching the lamp just after it has been used may cause a burn injury. Do not touch the lamp by hand until it has cooled (60 minutes). 5.8 Cleaning of Water Tank There is a danger that the water tank may not be disinfected or sterilized completely. After using the water tank, clean it out at once. 5.9 Disinfecting of Water Tank The vapor of the antiseptic solution may adversely affect the human body. During disinfection, keep the air circulating fully. Before dipping, put the lid on the dipping bath.

Amount of Illumination (ILLUMINATION) When this pictogram lights up, the indicator displays the amount of illumination.
Lamp-lit Hours (LAMP LIFE) When this pictogram lights up, the indicator displays the integrated lighting hours of the main lamp (Xenon). Transmitted Illumination Button (XLUM) When this button is pressed, the button flashes, and the main lamp (Xenon) flashes with the amount of light maximized. Pressing this button again turns on the button light, setting the amount of light back to the initial level. Emergency Lamp Alarm Flashes when the main lamp (Xenon) can’t light up. It lights up when the emergency lamp (Halogen) is used. Light Save Button (LIGHT SAVE) When this button is pressed, the button light flashes, saving the amount of light of the main lamp. Pressing this button again turns on the button light, setting the amount of light back to the initial level. Power Button This button is used to turn ON/OFF the power. When the power is turned ON, the button lights up.
Lamp Button (LAMP) Pressing this button turns on the main lamp (Xenon). Pressing this button again turns off the main lamp. If this button is pressed while the emergency lamp flashes, the emergency lamp lights up. Brightness Adjustment Button (LEVEL) Pressing this button changes the level of automatic light control.
Pump Button (PUMP) Pressing this button switches over the pressure of air supply into 3 steps; “Normal,” “Low,” and “OFF.”

Tank Lid Open this area to supply and discharge water. Endoscope Connection Portion to which the Endoscope is connected. Hook Use this hook for the attachment to the light source or cart. Tank Filled with approx. 250 ml water. Supply approx. 80% full of water. Use sterilized water, and change the water every day. Cleaning Adapter This adapter is used for cleaning and sterilization. When using the adapter, attach it to the connector of the water supply tank.

4.2 Preparing and Checking of EPX-4400 System Prepare and check the EPX-4400 system according to the “Chapter 4 Preparing and Checking of EPX-4400 System” of the VP-4400 Operation Manual.
4.3 Lighting the Lamp

(1) Turn the power of the light source ON. The Power button turns ON.
(2) Make sure that “Normal” of the air supply lamp turns ON.
(3) Check the number of hours the lamp has been lit. If the pictogram turns ON in green, the lamp is available. The indicator shows the integrated lighting hours. The indicator moves to the right as the time elapses (three steps 100 hours).
If the extreme right-hand side indicator turns ON and the lamp-lit hours pictogram is flashing ON and OFF in orange, the integrated lighting hours has exceeded 300 hours. If the integrated lighting hours exceeds 300 hours while the lamp is being turned ON, the pictogram for lamp-lit hours flashes ON and OFF in orange, and “Please exchange XENON Lamp.” appears on the screen.

(4) By pressing the Lamp button, turn the main lamp ON. [Note] If the emergency alarm lamp is flashing while the lamp being turned ON, refer to “5.6 Replacing the Main Lamp (Xenon)” (p.5-7).
4.4 Adjusting the Brightness (1) Adjust with the Brightness adjustment button to obtain the appropriate brightness for an object. Press
to make more bright and press
to make less bright.
The brightness level changes in the range of -8 to 8.
(2) Attach the palm of the hand to the distal end of Endoscope and make sure that the image of the hand can be seen.

4.5 Operation of Air Supply Pump (1) When turning the power of the light source ON, the air supply pump operates in “Normal” mode.
(2) Pressing the Pump button changes the settings in the order of “Normal,” “Low” and “OFF.” Select “Normal,” “Low” or “OFF.”
(3) By keeping the air/water button pressed, the water is discharged from the nozzle. [Note] Take precaution for the water discharging direction.
(4) By closing the center hole on the air/water button of Endoscope, the air is discharged from the nozzle.

4.6 Transmitted Illumination The transmitted illumination is used to check the distal end of the Endoscope from outside the body. The main lamp flashes with the amount of light maximized.
(1) Press the Transmitted illumination button. The main lamp flashes with the amount of light maximized, and the Transmitted illumination button flashes.
(2) To set the amount of light back to the initial level, press the Transmitted illumination button again. The amount of light of the main lamp is set back to the initial level, and the Transmitted illumination button turns on.

4.7 Light Save To prevent the illumination light from clotting the blood from a bleeding patient, the light save function is used to limit the maximum amount of light of the main lamp. The maximum amount of light is limited to 30%. [Note] Even if the light save function is used, blood may be clotted in some cases. (1) Press the Light save button. The maximum amount of light of the main lamp is limited, and the Light save button flashes.
(2) To set the amount of light back to the initial level, press the Light save button again. The amount of light of the main lamp is set back to the initial level, and the Light save button turns ON.

CAUTION It may cause trouble to the equipment. Clean the equipment in the proper way as specified. Do not wash the light source with running water nor perform immersion to disinfect it. Do not disinfect nor sterilize the light source.
When the equipment is dusty or dirty, wipe it gently with a soft cloth, such as gauze. To remove heavy dirt, wipe the equipment gently with a piece of gauze moistened with a small quantity of diluted neutral detergent solution.

5.2 Storage 5.2.1 Storage of Light Source
CAUTION It may cause trouble to the equipment. Do not store the equipment in a place which does not meet the storage conditions. Keep the cable away from the external force during storage. Store the XL-4400 system in a place that meets the following conditions.

When the equipment has been out of use for a long period, check the operation again as performed at the installation. “Chapter 4 Installation and Checking of EPX-4400 System” of VP-4400 Operation Manual.
5.2.2 Storage of Water Tank
WARNING It may cause infection. Dry the water tank before storing it.
Store the water tank after it has been disinfected with chemicals or sterilized. Store the water tank in a dry and clean dark place.

5.3 Testing the Emergency Lamp If the main Xenon lamp turns off during the observation, and if it cannot light up again, the emergency lamp is equipped to remove the Endoscope safely. This emergency lamp uses the Halogen lamp. Make sure if the lamp works well periodically for the safety use. The test of the emergency lamp is carried out by the operation of the VP-4400. “Section 4.4 Testing the Emergency Lamp” (p. 4-6) of VP-4400 Operation Manual
5.4 When the Emergency Lamp Alarm is Flushed <When it flushes during the clinical procedure> When the emergency lamp alarm flushes during the clinical procedure, press the lamp button to light up the emergency light, and remove the Endoscope immediately. After the clinical procedure, check the light source according to the following procedure, <When it flushes while the main lamp lights up>. <When it flushes while the main lamp lights up> If the emergency lamp alarm lights up when you press the Lamp button to light up the main lamp, the following reasons can be thought. Excessive heat on the lamp Lamp life Failure of lamp system Malfunction of lamp from the noise or etc. Check the light source according to the procedure on the following page.

(1) Turn off the power to the processor and light source. When positioning the light source, keep the ventilation ports 17 mm or more away from the wall, and prevent blocking the ventilation port on the bottom of the light source. After 5 to 10 seconds, turn on the power. 17 mm

(2) Press the Lamp button to light up the main lamp. If the main lamp lights up, you can make the operation with the Endoscope. If not, follow the procedures from (3).
(3) Turn off the power to the light source and processor, and turn on the power again. Do not press the Lamp button at that time. Cooling fan at the light source will work and cool down the main lamp.
(4) Cool it down for 2 to 3 minutes, and press the Lamp button. If the main lamp lights up, you can start the operation.

5.5 Duration for the Replacement of Lamp
CAUTION If you use the Xenon lamp lighting up for over 300 hours, the lamp may blow up. Do not use the lamp lighting up more than its life. The lamp indicator and pictogram to display the cumulative lit time of the main lamp are on the front panel of the light source. The discharging lamp will not turn off suddenly as the normal lamp or Halogen lamp, but the amount of light and lighting performance will be deteriorated, and may cause the blowing up. Make sure that the time of lighting with the lamp integrating meter.
(1) Turn the power of the light source ON. If the indicator and pictogram to indicate lamp-lit hours on the front panel light ON in green, the equipment is usable. The indicator indicates the integrated lighting hours. The indication moves to the right as the time is elapsing (three steps 100 hours).
(2) If the indicator LED at the extreme right side turns ON and the pictogram for lamp lighting hours flashes in orange, the cumulative lamp-lit time exceeds 300 hours. If the lamp-lit hours exceed 300 while the lamp is ON, the pictogram for the lamp-lit hours flashes in orange, and “Please exchange XENON Lamp,” will appear. If the lamp-lit hours exceed 300, replace the main lamp according to “Section 5.6 Replacing the Main Lamp” (page 5-7).

5.6 Replacement of Main Lamp (Xenon)
WARNING It may cause electric shock. Before replacing the lamp, unplug the power cord from the receptacle.
CAUTION Touching the lamp just after it is used may cause a burn injury. Do not touch the lamp by hand until it has cooled (60 minutes). [Note] The box which contains the new lamp is also used to hold the old lamp. Do not throw it out.
<Replacing the Lamp Unit> (1) Turn the power to the light source OFF, and disconnect the power plug from the receptacle.
(2) Rotate the two knurled knobs on the left side panel to open the lamp house cover.

(3) Raise the tab, grasp it and open the lock cover.
(4) Rotate the knurled knobs of the unit counterclockwise, and take out the whole unit together with the lamp.
(5) Insert a new lamp unit LMP-002 into the light source, and then rotate the knurled knobs clockwise to attach it firmly.

(6) Fold the tab in, and then close the lock cover.
(7) Close the lamp house cover and rotate the two knurled knobs to attach it firmly. (8) Put the replaced lamp unit in the box which had contained the new lamp. [Note] Contact our sales representatives for disposal of the usedup lamp.

<Resetting the Lamp Usage Time> Perform the operation to reset the lamp usage time immediately after replacing the lamp. Do not perform the operation to reset the lamp usage time at any time other than when replacing the lamp. (1) Connect the power plug to the receptacle. (2) Hold down the two brightness adjustment buttons simultaneously and press the Power button.
(3) The lamp usage time is reset. The leftmost LED on the indicator and the pictogram for lamp usage time (LAMP LIFE) light up in green.

5.8 Cleaning of Water Tank
WARNING There is a danger that it may not be disinfected or sterilized sufficiently. After using the water tank, clean it immediately.
5.8.1 Preparation Prepare a washbasin, rubber gloves, washing, sponge, brush, clean gauze, etc.
5.8.2 Cleaning Procedure (1) Wear rubber gloves, and use a sponge and brush to clean the water tank in a washbasin filled with the cleaning fluid.
(2) Take out the water tank from the washing, and then rinse it with running water. (3) Wipe water off the tank with gauze.

(4) Attach a cleaning adapter to the connector of the water tank. Align the adapter pin with the connector groove, and fix the adapter by rotating it clockwise until it stops.
[Note] The conduit has two systems.
(5) Install a syringe containing water in any one of the Luer connectors of the cleaning adapter.

(6) Using the syringe, inject water from the cleaning adapter.
(7) Remove the syringe and then suck air into the syringe. (8) Attach the syringe to the Luer connector again.
(9) Send air from the cleaning adapter and discharge water from the conduit. (10) Repeat steps (5) to (9) to supply air and water three times. There are two conduits provided. Perform the same operation for the other conduit of the cleaning adapter.
(11) Wipe water off with gauze.

5.9 Disinfection of Water Tank
CAUTION Vapor of the antiseptic solution may adversely affect the human body. During the disinfection, keep the air circulating fully. Before dipping, put the lid on the dipping bath.
5.9.1 Conditions for Disinfection For disinfection, it is recommended to use the disinfectants shown in Table 5.1. We have confirmed that the water tank is resistant to these disinfectants. If you want to use disinfectants other than those shown in this table, contact us in advance about the resistance of the water tank to those disinfectants. Taking into account the resistance of the equipment, use disinfectants within the range of the conditions shown in the table below. For the effect, dilution and preparation of chemicals under the use conditions shown below, contact the relevant chemical manufacturers. In addition, you may need to wear gloves or observe “Cautions for Usage” and “Cautions for Handling,” depending on the types of chemicals. 5.9.2 Disinfection Procedure (1) Dip the cleaned water tank in the chemical.
(2) Using a syringe, inject the chemical into a conduit of the supply water tank from the cleaning adapter. Repeat the injection until no bubbles are generated from the conduit of the water tank. (3) Perform the same operation for the other conduit of the cleaning adapter.
(4) Rotate the connector of the water tank counterclockwise to remove the cleaning adapter. (5) Under the specified conditions, dip the water tank and cleaning adapter in the chemical.
(6) Take out the water tank from the chemical, and then wash it with sterilized water fully until no more chemical resides.

(7) Install the cleaning adapter in the water tank. (8) Using a syringe, supply air and water three times. To prevent the chemical from residing in the conduit of the water tank, wash the conduit fully with sterilized water. Perform the same operation for the other conduit of the cleaning adapter.
(9) When water has been eliminated from the conduits of the cleaning adapter, remove the cleaning adapter. (10) Using gauze, wipe water off the water tank and cleaning adapter and then dry them.
5.10 Sterilization of Water Tank Autoclave (steam sterilization under pressure) is used to sterilize the water tank and cleaning adapter.
5.10.1 Sealing in the Sterilization Pack Put the water tank and cleaning adapter individually in sterilization packs, and then seal the packs tightly. For the tight sealing procedure, follow the instruction manual for the sterilization pack.
5.10.2 Autoclave After the water tank and cleaning adapter have been tightly sealed in sterilization packs, put them in the autoclave equipment. When performing the autoclave operation, follow the guidelines of each facility. For the operation of the autoclave equipment, follow the instruction manual for the autoclave equipment or the instructions from the manufacturer.
