Repairing the OmniBed Lift Mechanism

1.2.1 Lift Motor Disassembly 1. Position the canopy to allow for later alignment of parts: b. Plug in the unit and turn it on. c. Raise the canopy approximately two inches above the closed position. (Refer to Figure 1.) d. Turn off the unit and unplug it. Figure 1

5. Remove the back cover using a 2.5 mm hex key. 6. Using a 2.5 mm hex key, remove the connection panel and mounting screws and let the panel hang by the wires. 7. Make room for installation of the new lift motor: h. Using a 5 mm hex key, remove two cap screws and washers securing the transformer to the transformer bracket. i.

Tip the transformer back. Remove the green paper wire shield and set it aside. (Refer to Figure 2.)

j.

Lift transformer up and move it toward you to clear the mounting tabs on the back of transformer.

k. Lift and slide the transformer as far to the right as possible. (Refer to Figure 3.) NOTE: The transformer wiring harnesses should be moved to allow as much movement of the transformer to the right as possible. To allow for enough working room, the transformer should be against the relay board mounting bracket. Figure 3

12. Uninstall the canopy lift motor: m. Using a 5.5 mm wrench, remove the M3 hex nut that secures the relay board retainer bracket. (Refer to Figure 4.)

n. Pull out the relay board and disconnect the canopy lift motor connector at J46 on the relay board. (Refer to Figure 5.) NOTE: You may have to disconnect some of the other connectors on the relay board in order to access J46.

o. Remove the ground wires of the canopy lift motor from the grounding stud using an 8 mm wrench. (Refer to Figure 6.)

p. Using a 3 mm hex key, remove the two canopy lift motor mounting screws from the canopy lift motor. (For a unit with the old lift motor design, refer to Figure 7. For a unit with a new lift motor design, refer to Figure 8.) NOTE: Dispose of the mounting screws from the old motor appropriately.

q. Remove the canopy lift motor and coupling parts. Set aside.

1.2.2 Lift Motor Reassembly 1. Install new coupling parts. 2. Using the short 3 mm hex key provided, install one of the M4 cap screws, one flat washer, and split washer supplied with the lift motor service kit into the upper rear lift-motor mounting hole, turning only one to two turns. (Refer to Figure 9.) Important: It may be helpful to take note of position of rear mounting screw.

3. Install the new lift motor by sliding the slot onto the rear screw. (Refer to Figure 10.) NOTE: If necessary, move the canopy slightly to align the lift motor cogs with the motor coupling. 4. Install the remaining M4 cap screw, flat washer, and split washer that came with the kit in the lower front mounting hole of the canopy lift motor bracket. Do not fully tighten.

5. Using the 3 mm hex key, tighten the 3 mm M4 screw at the upper rear mounting hole of the canopy lift motor bracket. After tightening the screw, remove the key and tighten the other M4 cap screw in the lower front mounting hole. (Refer to Figure 11.)

6. Move the transformer back to its original position, making sure that the tabs at the rear of the transformer engage the slots on the rear of the transformer bracket. (Refer to Figure 12 for steps 6, 7, and 8.) 7. Reinstall the green paper wire shield on the transformer bracket assembly. 8. Using a 5 mm hex key, reinstall the two cap screws and washers removed previously, securing the transformer to the transformer bracket.

9. Install the ground wire onto the grounding studs using an 8 mm wrench. (Refer to Figure 13.) NOTE: If you are replacing an old lift motor, there will be an extra locking washer left over from the grounding studs. 10. Connect the lift motor at J46 on the relay board. (Refer to Figure 5.) 11. On the relay board, plug in all connectors removed in previous steps. 12. Reinstall the relay board, AC panel, and back cover by reversing the disassembly instructions.

1.3 Repairing the OmniBed Lift Rail The following kit is available for units with the earlier design. For units with the later design, individual parts are available. For the kit and replacement part numbers, refer to the illustrated parts section of this addendum. Contents of Lift Rail Gear/Idler Service Kit

1.3.1 Rail Disassembly 1. Lay the rail on its side for repair. Warning: Use caution when moving the belt block. Injury could occur.

2. Locate the pin underneath the plastic belt block. Using a little force, pull the plastic belt block down and away from the spools to allow the hook to unfasten from the bar while holding the rail in place. (Refer to Figure 14.) Figure 14

3. Allow the plastic belt block to go towards the spools once it is unhooked. (Refer to Figure 15.) 4. Using a 5.5 mm wrench, remove the Nylock nuts that secure the buoyancy springs to the plastic belt block. The springs will roll back around their spools. Remove the spring coils from the plastic belt block.

5. Roll the plastic belt off as described below: •

If you have the new design lift rail parts, use a 2.5 mm hex key to remove the two M3x10 socket head screws and washers that secure the belt guard to the sprocket. Move the belt guard aside as shown in Figure 16. Roll the plastic belt off the lower drive gear, also shown in Figure 16.

If you have the old design lift rail parts, roll the plastic belt off the upper sprocket as shown at right. (Refer to Figure 17.)

6. Gently flip the plastic belt block over on its side as shown.

7. Using a 2 mm hex key, remove the four screws (one in each corner; two washers each) that hold the halves of the plastic belt block together. (Refer to Figure 18.)

8. Using a 2 mm hex key, remove the two screws in the brass belttensioning block. Note that one link of the belt protrudes from the brass belt block. (Refer to FigureS 19 and 20.) NOTE: For units that have and will retain the early design, stop here and refer to the service manual for instructions on installing the lift belt. Figure 20

9. The belt may now be removed and replaced. If desired, all associated parts may also be replaced at this time. The updated parts are shown below. (Refer to Figures 21-24.)

10. If old parts are currently in place, they will need to be taken out and replaced with the new parts shown above. If new parts are already in place, skip to step 13. 11. To remove the bottom sprocket (old part), use a 2 mm hex wrench to remove the two screws holding the belt guide block in place. (Refer to Figure 25.) Figure 25

12. Drive out the roll pin using a punch where shown. Once the roll pin is removed, the axle can be removed along with all of the parts it supports (2 washers and bottom sprocket). (Refer to Figure 26.)

13. To remove the top sprocket, use a 2 mm hex key to release the screw. (Refer to Figure 27.) NOTE: There is a significant chance that the screw head will strip. Use your newest hex key to carefully loosen the screw. Once the screw is out, slide the axle out and remove all pieces that were being supported by the axle (2 spacers). Figure 27

1.3.2 Rail Reassembly 1. To insert the upper hub, align the hub in the correct position (as shown) and slide the upper shaft through the rail and hub. (Refer to Figure 28.)

2. Use a 2 mm hex key to screw an M3x25 button head screw through the side of the hub (as shown) and secure with an M3 Nylock nut. (Refer to Figure 29.)

3. Place the two halves of the lower sprocket together and insert it in the rail assembly. Then insert the lower drive shaft, as shown. (Refer to Figure 30.)

4. Drive two 3/32 roll pins into the holes as shown in Figure 31.

5. Attach one end of the belt to the brass belt block along with the spring. Make sure that there is one link of the belt hanging off the edge of the brass belt block. (Refer to Figure 32.)

6. Refit the brass block into the plastic belt block. It should fit snugly. 7. Replace the top of the brass belt block using a 2 mm hex key. (Refer to Figure 33.) NOTE: The spring should be centered on the two tabs on the brass block. Figure 33

8. Hold the plastic belt block over the same area as mentioned in step 7. (Refer back to Figure 19.) 9. Run the belt all the way to the sprocket and leave the belt to the side of the gears and take the belt underneath. Refer to Figure 34.

10. Run the free end of the belt under and over the upper hub. Refer to Figure 35.

11. Reattach the other end of the belt in the groves on the plastic belt block as far as the belt can go-make sure that the belt is in all of the grooves on the plastic belt block. (Refer to Figure 36.)

12. Replace the top of the plastic belt block with screws in their respective places. Make sure the leaf spring is attached on the proper side. Remember: To place the screws in, the heads of the screws should not be seen, so you will have to turn the plastic belt block on its side to replace the screws. (The longer screws must be closer to the spools, because that is what the Nylock nuts will be attached to.) (Refer to Figure 37.) NOTE: The spring should be centered on the two tabs on the brass block.

13. While pulling the belt block toward the sprocket, roll the belt onto the sprocket. Now that the belt has been properly installed, use a 2.5 mm hex key and two M3x10 socket head screws and washers to secure the belt guard to the sprocket. Place them through the two holes on the side of the belt guard. (Refer to Figure 38.)

14. Bring the plastic belt block as close as possible to the spools. Place them on the two long screws and replace the Nylock bolts. (Refer to Figures 39 and 40.)

15. Holding the spools again, pull the plastic belt block away from the spools so that it can be hooked on to the pin beneath it. (Refer to Figure 41.)
