3. Function and mode of operation Whenever anaesthesia is carried out in half-closed or half-open systems, excess anaesthetic gas escapes through the pressure control valve of the circulation system and is inhaled by users and staff. This is avoided by installing an anaesthetic gas evacuation system. The anaesthetic gas evacuation system AGFS is installed in the vicinity of the anaesthesia working area. A transvector integrated in the AGFS generates the required underpressure. The suction power is adjusted separately on every evacuation box to a standard value of 45-50 l/min, but it can be tailored to the customer's needs. The anaesthetic gas evacuation system is started up by connecting the anaesthetic gas suction plug, supplying the transvector with driving air (5 bar). The underpresssure generated by the transvector is indicated by the green colour of the visual signal. The anaesthetic gas drawn off, including the driving air of the transvector, is passed into the open air through a separate pipe or duct. When the plug is disconnected the driving gas inflow to the transvector is interrupted, which ceases to generate a low pressure, and the visual signal turns white. Simultaneously the integrated safety valve closes and prevents the anaesthetic gas in the exhaust pipe from flowing back.
