Our instruments are designed for use by surgeons who have a full understanding of their features and how they should be used. Any other use can compromise the safety of the user and the patient. It is the responsibility of the surgeon to choose the suitable instrument for the surgical technique being
When reprocessing medical devices, always handle with care, wearing protective clothing, gloves and eyewear in accordance with your local health & safety procedures. • •
Reprocessing Limitations
Repeated processing has minimal effect on these instruments End of life is normally determined by wear and damage in use.
Ultrasonic Cleaning & Disinfection •
Place the knife (with blade in the fully retracted position) in an ultrasonic unit filled with warm distilled/deionized water (65.5°C/150°F) along with a neutral pH cleaner for 2 to 3 minutes. The knife may be fully immersed with the blade fully retracted in a small ophthalmic dedicated ultrasonic cleaning unit. It is best to put the Diamond Knife in its dedicated tray with finger mats to reduce vibration.
•
After ultrasonic cleaning is complete, rinse knife under distilled/deionized water to remove remaining residue from the blade for 30 seconds on each side with the blade exposed. Blades should not be extended beyond the footplate. Do not use heavy water pressure; a small stream of water is adequate. Point the front of the knife down when flushing. Retract blade and rinse the handle
•
Inspect Diamond Knife blade under microscope
•
Place the Diamond Knife back in the dedicated tray and dry with compressed warm air at low pressure
•
Sterilise by steam methods
•
Do not clean the diamond edge by wiping with a surgical swab or wipe as the diamond may break away from the handle.
Never exert any sideways pressure on the blade as this can cause it to snap off completely. •
