CUFF SELECTION AND PLACEMENT WHAT IS HYPERTENSION? Hypertension is blood pressure that is above the expected range.

Ensure cuff is correct size. Check Index Markers lie within the range shown on the cuff. The Bladder should surround 80% of the arm and be centred over the forearm.

HOW IS HYPERTENSION DIAGNOSED? The only way to find out if you have high blood pressure is through regular check-ups with your doctor. WHY TAKE MULTIPLE READINGS? Blood pressure is often high initially due to ‘office’ or ‘situational’ Hypertension. By discarding this first reading, taking multiple readings and averaging them, the accuracy of diagnosis is improved. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CONTROL HYPERTENSION? Hypertension is one of the major risk factors for heart disease, stroke and kidney failure. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO REDUCE YOUR RISK OF HEART DISEASE AND STROKE IF YOU HAVE HYPERTENSION? There are several measures you can take to lower your blood pressure known as ‘lifestyle changes’. These include, if you need to lose weight, improve your diet and get regular exercise. Quitting smoking will reduce your overall cardiovascular risk.
