Preparation before the operation
Checklist: Before the operation Cleaning optical accessories (see Page 42) ➩Select and inspect the cleanliness of the eyepieces and objectives as well as any photo or TV adapters. ➩Remove the dust and dirt. Mounting accessories (see Page 17) ➩Loosen articulation brakes, unfold swing arm. Tighten articulation brakes again. Leave retaining hook latched tight! ➩Outfit microscope with all accessories for use. Attach the 0° assistant’s stereomicroscope on the desired side. Balancing out (see Page 21) ➩Loosen the retaining hook. Balance out the surgical microscope at the swing arm (set rotary knob). Ease of movement (see Page 21) ➩Regulate the articulation brakes according to personal requirements and accessory weight. ➩Engage retaining hook again. Eyepieces (see Page 24) ➩Screw eyecups and any spacer rings tight. ➩In case of photography insert the graticule, if appropriate. Fold back the eyecups, if appropriate. Eye-bases (see Page 24) ➩Set.
Configuring the control unit (see Page 29 ff.) Caution 1 XY axes move to their basic settings! ➩Before switching on the control unit unfold the swing arm and ensure that the traverse paths of the X- and the Y-axis are free. ➩Switch on the control unit. The XY axes and the focus drive move to their basic positions (XY: centre, focus: 1/3 upwards, 2/3 downwards). ➩Configure the control unit (as far as necessary) (see Page 29). Leica Ceiling Mount – if present (see Page 27) ➩Move from the parked position downwards. Leica Telescope Mount – if present (see Page 27) Warning 2 Risk of injury through surgical microscope moving down! ➩Never position the surgical microscope over the patient when moving it down. ➩While moving the surgical microscope down observe it in order to avoid collisions. ➩Move from the parked position downwards. EBS floor stand – if existing ➩Balance out EBS floor stand (see Page 22). ➩Position it at the operating table (see Page 26).
Dioptrics (see Page 25) ➩Set. ➩Treat eyepieces with antifogging compound.

Preparation before the operation
Operational check
Mounting accessories
Main light ➩Connect the microscope to the control unit. If a lamp is defective, the following message is displayed on the control unit: “Warning! Main Light Lamp Defective”. ➩Use the quick-change lamp mount to switch on the 2nd lamp. If the 2nd lamp is defective, the following message is displayed on the control unit: “Main Light Spare Lamp Defective”. ➩Replace defective lamps immediately.
Warning 3 Risk of injury through surgical microscope moving down! ➩Never change the accessories or attempt to rebalance the microscope while it is over the field of operation. ➩Balance out the surgical microscope at the swing arm after every change of equipment. Preparation ➩Block the swing arm. Fitting the 0° assistant’s stereomicroscope
OttoFlex™ ➩Check the position of the Ottoflex/externally supply switch. ➩Set the brightness using the arrow key at the control unit. ➩Check the lamp. ➩Replace a defective lamp immediately. Foot-/handswitch ➩Test all functions with foot-/handswitch. ➩Position the foot-/handswitch. Brakes for EBS floor stand and C40 swing arm ➩Use the handgrips and remote triggering to check the function of the brakes. In case of malfunctions refer to Page 46.
Last steps Sterility ➩Attach sterile components and sterile drapes. Positioning at operating table ➩Block the height adjustment at the swing arm and fold it up. ➩Block the articulation brakes. ➩Move the stand to the operation table and position it for the operation. ➩Set the footbrakes.
Only attach the 0°-assistant’s stereomicroscope directly to the optics carrier. The 0°- assistant’s stereomicroscope can be swung to the left or right by means of the integrated rotating ring. ➩Screw out the clamping screw (1) until it stops by means of the screwdriver. ➩Insert the attachment of the 0°-assistant’s stereomicroscope into the dovetail ring so that the arrow (2) is positioned exactly over the clamping screw.
1
➩Hold the 0°-assistant’s stereomicroscope and tighten the clamping screw (1). Depending on the equipment used first fasten the beam splitter and then the binocular tubes by the same method. 2 1 Mounting accessories ➩Loosen the clamping screw at the left-hand or right-hand outlet of the beam splitter and remove the black protective cover. ➩Insert the tube for second observer, photo, TV or dual attachment carefully and tighten the clamping screw.
Leica M841 / Ref. 10 708 208 / Version I
17
Preparation before the operation Fitting the double wing We recommend mounting the longer arm of the double wing on the side of the focus housing in order to achieve optimal ergonomic conditions. ➩Screw out the clamping screw (1) until it stops by means of the screwdriver. ➩Insert the attachment of the double wing into the dove1 tail ring so that the arrow is positioned exactly over the clamping screw. ➩Hold the double wing and tighten the clamping screw. When the combination with the double wing is used, we recommend that the main surgeon uses the Ultra low binocular tube. The Ultra low binocular tube offers better ergonomic conditions. The double wing makes use of the pneumatic spring with 1270 N necessary instead of the standard spring with 1100 N. The additional weight (Art. No.: 10457174) has to be used. Please contact your Leica representative to this purpose.
Mounting the dual attachment ➩Fasten the dual attachment to the beam splitter. ➩Equip the TV camera with a TV objective and insert it in the dual attachment. ➩Tighten the clamping screw. ➩Equip the photo camera 1 with the camera adapter. Screw the photo objective to the camera objective. Insert the camera in the dual attachment. ➩Tighten the clamping screw. ➩Loosen the clamping screw (1) and engage the TV camera into one of the 45° steps according to the space available. ➩Tighten the clamping screw.
TV and photo formats with dual attachment TV/Video
Mounting the beam splitter Always attach the beam splitter at the 0° assistant’s stereomicroscope. ➩Turn the clamping screw out until it stops. ➩Slide the beam splitter into the dovetail ring and turn it slightly sideways until the positioning screw grips in the guide. ➩Tighten the clamping screw. ➩Fasten the binocular tube by the same means to the beam splitter. Tighten the clamping screw.
