FUNCTION TEST AFTER SERVICE CAUTION! Function test is required after each single service!
5.1
TEST 1: NEGATIVE PRESSURE METHOD: 1 The vacuum pump is connected to the vacuum connector and the pressure gauge is connected to the reservoir connector of the VAVD controller. 2 The ON/OFF button is set to the ON position. 3 The regulator knob of the VAVD is moved slowly with defined steps (-10, -20, -40, -60, -80 mmHg) to the maximum of –100 mmHg until the defined value is reached on the manometer of the VAVD controller. 4 For each defined step and the opening value of the negative pressure relieve valve, the values of the pressure gauge are noted.
SPECIFICATION: 1 The set vacuum value on the pressure gauge has to be reached within a tolerance of ±2 mmHg. 2 The negative pressure valve must open at –100 ± 10 mmHg, a humming sound and a oscillating needle in the VAVD’s gauge have to appear. The needle mustn’t move over a value of 110 mmHg, when trying to raise the vacuum. VAVD CONTROLLER | Service Manual | 1.0 Copyright MAQUET Cardiopulmonary AG, Hirrlingen

5.2
TEST 2: POSITIVE PRESSURE METHOD: 1 The pressure source, the pressure reducer and the first pressure gauge are connected to the vacuum connector of the VAVD controller. 2 The second pressure gauge is connected to the reservoir connector of the VAVD controller. 3 The ON/OFF button is set to the ON position. 4 The regulator knob of the VAVD is set up to the maximum. 5 Start raising the incoming pressure with the pressure reducer slowly. 6 Note the pressure of the pressure gauge at vacuum connector, if the pressure gauge at the reservoir connector shows the first value (except 0). A flow needs to be present at the outlet on the backside (holes) of the device.
SPECIFICATION: 1 The positive pressure valve has to open at 3 ± 2 mmHg (value of pressure gauge in the outlet).
5.3
TEST 3: MANOMETER METHOD: 1 The vacuum pump is connected to the vacuum connector and the pressure gauge is connected to the reservoir connector of the VAVD controller. 2 The ON/OFF button is set to the ON position.

3 The regulator knob of the VAVD is moved slowly to –40 mmHg and –80 mmHg on the manometer. 4 Note the value of pressure gauge on the reservoir connector. 5 Turn the regulator knob back to the beginning (0-Position). 6 Note the value of the manometer and the pressure gauge at the outlet.
SPECIFICATION: 1 The value on the pressure gauge has to be within the tolerance specified on the manometer; class I, 1.6 (1.6% of maximum reading): = ± 1,92 mmHg ≈ 2 mmHg. 2 After turning the regulator knob to the beginning (0-Position), the value on the manometer has to be 0 ± 5 mmHg and on the pressure gauge at the reservoir connector has to be 0 ± 3 mmHg.
5.4
TEST 4: ON/OFF SWITCH METHOD: 1 The vacuum pump is connected to the vacuum connector and the pressure gauge is connected to the reservoir connector of the VAVD controller. 2 The ON/OFF button is set to the ON position. 3 The regulator knob of the VAVD is moved slowly to –50 mmHg on the manometer. 4 The ON/OFF switch is set to the OFF position. 5 Note the value at the pressure gauge at the outlet.

| VAVD CONTROLLER | English | 19 |
6 The ON/OFF switch is set to the ON position. 7 Note the value at the pressure gauge reservoir connector and the manometer.
SPECIFICATION: 1 After switch off, the value at the pressure gauge on the reservoir connector needs to be 0 mmHg. 2 After switch on again, the value at the outlet and the manometer needs to be 50 mmHg ± 5 mmHg, the values of the manometer and the pressure gauge need to identical.

TEST 5: VISUAL TESTS METHOD: The device is visual checked for generally good condition. 1 cleanness 2 scratches 3 completeness 4 fittings + fixing bolt 5 gaps between enclosure parts 6 consistent finishing and structure 7 right label (type and position) 8 final production test report (for each serial-no.)

SPECIFICATION: 1 device is clean 2 no scratches 3 device is complete 4 fittings + fixing bolt are present 5 no gaps between enclosure parts 6 consistent finishing and structure on all outside surfaces 7 right label on specified position mounted 8 final production test report (for each serial-no.) exists
5.6
TEST 6: HOLDER MECHANISM METHOD: It needs to be checked, if the holder mechanism works with a bolt of 20±0,2mm diameter. 1 Loose the threaded bolt on the backside of the device. 2 Insert the bolt (20±0,2mm diameter ) or the bolt of the original VAVD CONTROLLER holder into the hole on the bottom. 3 Tighten the threaded bolt on the backside of the device. 4 Perform function test. 5 Remove the bolt and tighten the threaded bolt. SPECIFICATION: 1 Bolt (20±0,2mm diameter ) needs be inserted easily. 2 After tighten the threaded bolt, it does not be possible to twist/turn the bolt with diameter 20mm.
