Intended use for EU- M60/EU- M2000
This ultrasound center has been designed to be used with Olympus ultrasonic
endoscopes, Olympus ultrasonic probes or Olympus esophageal ultrasonic
probe to observe and to store real-time, ultrasonic images within the
gastrointestinal (GI) tract, biliary and pancreatic ducts and surrounding organs,
upper airways and tracheobronchial tree, urinary tract and female reproductive
organs. Do not use this device for any purpose other than its intended use.
Instruction manual for EU- M60/EU- M2000
This instruction manual contains essential information on using this ultrasound
center safely and effectively. Before use, thoroughly review this manual and the
manuals of all equipment which will be used during the procedure and use the
equipment as instructed.
Keep this and all related instruction manuals in a safe, accessible location.
This instruction manual describes functionality of the EU--M60/EU--M2000 that
is available only after the 3D UPGRADE KIT (MAJ--1330) has been installed.
3D functions are not available on the EU--M60/EU--M2000 without the 3D
UPGRADE KIT (MAJ--1330) installed. For installation instructions, refer to the
manual that accompanied the MAJ--1330 at shipment.
If you have any questions or comments about any information in this manual,
please contact Olympus.

DPR (Dual Plane Reconstruction) examination is based on linear and
radial scanning with the probe driving unit (MAJ-935) and the DPR
ultrasonic probe.
3D examination:
DPR examination with 3D display.
Dual display:
The dual display shows both the radial and linear images at equal sizes
during a DPR examination.
Radial-priority display:
The radial-priority display shows a magnified radial image together with a
subscreen showing the linear image during a DPR examination.
Linear-priority display:
The linear-priority display shows a magnified linear image together with a
subscreen showing the radial image during a DPR examination.
Stroke:
The stroke is the movement range of linear scanning in the direction of the
insertion axis.
Pitch:
The pitch is the interval of movement in linear scanning.
External storage device:
This is an external SCSI device with a SCSI connection.
Model with 3D UPGRADE KIT preinstalled:

3D UPGRADE KIT:
Installation adds features such as 3D display of ultrasonic images.
3D display:
In 3D examination, 3D display is performed by re--building multiple,
consecutive 2D images acquired by 3D scanning.
MPR display:
Displays radial images, vertical linear images horizontal images and 3D
images on a screen divided into four parts during 3D examination.
Multi--screen display:
Displays multiple radial examination images simultaneously on a split
screen.
User qualifications
The operator of this ultrasound center must be a physician or medical personnel
under the supervision of a physician and must have received sufficient training
in clinical endoscopic technique. This manual, therefore, does not explain or
discuss clinical endoscopic procedures.
Instrument compatibility
Refer to the “System chart” in the Appendix to confirm that this ultrasound
center is compatible with the ancillary equipment being used. Using
incompatible equipment can result in patient injury and/or equipment damage.
This instrument complies with EMC standard for medical electrical equipment;
edition 2 (IEC 60601-1-2: 2001). However, when connected with an instrument
that complies with EMC standard for medical electrical equipment; edition 1

Dangers, warnings and cautions
Follow the dangers, warnings and cautions given below when handling this
ultrasound center. This information is to be supplemented by the dangers,
warnings and cautions given in each chapter.
S The ultrasound center is a TYPE BF applied part.
S Because the ultrasound center is a TYPE BF applied part,
the ultrasonic endoscope connected to it must never be
applied directly to the heart. Leakage current from a TYPE
BF applied part may be dangerous and could cause
ventricular fibrillation or otherwise seriously affect the
cardiac function of the patient.
Accordingly, always adhere to the following points:
-- Never apply the ultrasonic endoscope connected to this
ultrasound center to the heart or any area near the heart.
-- Never allow an endo-therapy accessory or another
ultrasonic endoscope applied to or near the heart to
come in contact with the ultrasonic endoscope connected
to this ultrasound center.
S Strictly observe the following precautions. Failure to do so
may place the patient and medical personnel in danger of an
electric shock:
-- When this ultrasound center is used to examine a
patient, do not allow metal parts of the ultrasonic
endoscope or its accessories to touch metal parts of
other system components. Such contact may cause
unintended current flow to the patient.
-- Keep fluids away from all electrical equipment. If fluids
are spilled on or into the unit, stop operation of the
ultrasound center immediately and contact Olympus.
-- Do not prepare, inspect or use this ultrasound center with
wet hands.

Important Information -- Please Read Before Use
S Never install or operate the ultrasound center in locations
where:
-- The concentration of oxygen is high.
-- Oxidizing agents (such as nitrous oxide (N2O)) are
present in the atmosphere.
-- Flammable anesthetics are present in the atmosphere.
Otherwise, explosion or fire may result because this
ultrasound center is not explosion-proof.
S To prevent electric shock hazards, the frame of the
ultrasound center must be grounded securely and
effectively.
S Use only a grounded wall mains outlet when connecting the
ultrasound center. Failure to do so may cause electric shock
or fire.
S Do not use the ultrasound center in an environment where
electrical noise is generated by electrosurgical equipment,
etc.
S When using the ultrasonic endoscope or probe in
conjunction with an X-ray device, electrical noise may
appear in the ultrasonic image.
S To prevent damage to the ultrasound center, never touch the
electrical contacts in the sockets.
S Do not place objects on or near the ventilation grills on the
rear panel of the ultrasound center while it is in use.
S When the ultrasound center is used in conjunction with any
other electrical device, always ensure that that device has
undergone a full safety check.
S Do not place the product on it side. Otherwise, the
ultrasound center may fall and become damaged and/or
cause injury.
S Do not use the ultrasound center under conditions other
than those specified in “Operating and storage
environments” in the Appendix.
S Do not use a pointed or hard object to press the keys or
switches on the keyboard. This could damage the keyboard.

Important Information -- Please Read Before Use
S Do not connect the “100 BASE-TX” terminal to an ISDN
circuit. Otherwise, the ultrasound center and the equipment
connected to the ISDN circuit may be damaged.
S To prevent unnecessary patient exposure to ultrasonic
radiation, follow the ‘as--low--as--reasonably achievable’
(ALARA) principle when using Olympus ultrasonic
equipment. Freeze the image whenever you are not actively
viewing the “live” ultrasonic image. When the equipment is in
the FREEZE mode, no ultrasonic energy is emitted.
S Electromagnetic interference may occur on this instrument
near equipment marked with the following symbol or other
portable and mobile RF (Radio Frequency) communications
equipment such as cellular phones. If electromagnetic
interference occurs, mitigation measures may be necessary,
such as reorienting or relocating this instrument, or shielding
the location.
S As defined by the international safety standard (IEC
60601-1), medical electrical equipment is classified into the
following types: TYPE CF applied parts (the instrument can
safely be applied to any part of the body, including the
heart), and TYPE BF applied parts (the instrument can
safely be applied to any organ except the heart). The part of
the body an endoscope or electrosurgical accessory can
safely be applied to depends on the classification of the
equipment to which the instruments are connected. Before
beginning the procedure, check the current leakage
classification type of each instrument to be used for the
procedure. Classification types are clearly specified in the
instruments’ instruction manuals.
