PALAMIX®
General information PALAMIX® is an orthopaedic vacuum mixing and application system for bone cements. PALAMIX® is available in two sizes: PALAMIX® uno and PALAMIX® duo and they are suitable for automatic collection of bone cement within the mixing cartridge under vacuum.
Intended User Healthcare professionals in a clinical context and experienced in the handling of the product. Warnings PALAMIX® uno and PALAMIX® duo are single-use devices and must never be re-used! Re-use may result in diminished safety, performance, and compliance with relevant specifications.
Components PALAMIX® uno (details for PALAMIX® duo in brackets) contains the following sterile components: • 1 (2) mixing cartridge, large enough to hold up to two (four) pouches of Heraeus Medical GmbH bone cement (uno: 2 x 40, duo: 4 x 40) • 1 (2) mixing rod with integrated mixing paddle and nozzle • 1 (1) funnel • 1 (1) vacuum hose • 1 (1) femoral pressuriser • 1 (1) knee pressuriser • 1 (2) short nozzle • 1 (2) spatula clip • 1 (1) work tray All components are not made with natural rubber latex and all components that come into contact with bone cement are not made with PVC.
Precautions Bone cement The sequence described in these instructions is optimized to suit Heraeus bone cements. If you are using bone cements from other manufacturers, please observe their specifications, the sequence for filling the vacuum mixing systems and their instructions for use. Regarding intended users Read these instructions for use before using for the first time and familiarize yourself with operation of the system. Test the bone cement properties and handling of PALAMIX® beforehand to account for your specific conditions. The bone cements should be extruded as soon as the surface of the bone cement is no longer sticky. The “finger test” should be carried out to check this. However, the bone cement must be extruded at the latest by the end of the temperature-dependent application time specified by the manufacturer (see corresponding instructions for use for the particular bone cement). During use, ensure that a suitable distance is left between non-sterile products and the sterile products PALAMIX® uno and PALAMIX® duo. The amount of bone cement dough required depends on the specific surgical intervention and on the technique being used. At least one additional set of PALAMIX® uno or PALAMIX® duo should be available before commencing the operation.
Intended purpose PALAMIX® is intended for in mixing bone cement with different viscosities under vacuum. Indications PALAMIX® is indicated for use in mixing bone cement with different viscosities under vacuum. Contraindications No contraindications for the use of PALAMIX® uno and PALAMIX® duo are known. Adverse events No adverse events for the use of PALAMIX® uno and PALAMIX® duo are known.
Supporting equipment Supporting equipment is required for the use of PALAMIX®:
