Remove lifter components from packing and lay out on carpeted area. Fit Mast Assembly into Mast Holder of chassis. Ensure that the Mast is fully engaged in the Mast Holder. Tighten the Clamp Screw to prevent movement of the Mast. Attach Push Handle with M8 Screws, Nuts and Washers packed with the handle. Assemble Boom to Mast with M10 x 75 Bolt and Washer. Assistance may be required to support the outer end of the Boom whilst fitting. Tighten nuts to clamp inner bush to clevis. Attach Boom to top of Actuator with M10 Hex Bolt, Nut and Washer. Tighten, taking care not to crush top Actuator hole. Attach electrics Mounting Rail to the Mast if required. Loosen the three screws in the left side of the Mast, fit the Rail and re-tighten the Screws. Mount the Control Box by sliding it down firmly onto the lower lugs of the Mounting Rail. Secure with M5 Socket Head Cap Screw. Plug the Main Actuator into Port 1 on the underside of the Control Box and the Leg Spreading Actuator into Port 2 Plug the Handset Lead into the large socket on the underside of the Control Box. Note, this socket is keyed so that the plug must be correctly orientated before it will enter. When aligned, press home firmly. A smear of Vaseline on the O-Ring may assist if the plug is tight. Clip Battery Pack onto Control Box and check operation of the Actuators. The Red Emergency Stop Button must be released for the Actuators to function properly. Features
Mechanical Features Leg Spread Adjuster (Skipper 175EM only) The legs of the base can be widened by pushing the Leg Spread Adjuster Handle (located at the rear of the machine) to the left. For example, when lifting a patient from a chair, the base may need widening to straddle the legs of a chair.
Sling Attachment Standard slings are attached to the hooks on a yoke via webbing straps.
Banana slings are attached via key-hole buckles to studs located on the pivoting frame.
Locking Castors The Skipper 175 comes with high quality locking castors at the rear. These castors are easily operated by foot and keep the lifter stationary when required.
14
Features
Electrical Features Handset Up/Down
Low Battery Warning LED
The Skipper 175 lifting mechanism is controlled through the use of a handset. Up/down and adjustment of the base width for the Skipper 175EE model, is attained by pressing the buttons on the face of the handset. A low battery warning lamp is also present. The handset connects to the contol unit via a curly cord lead. Do not over-stretch this lead as damage may occur thus rendering the Skipper 175 inoperative.
Leg Spread Adjuster (Skipper 175EE only) The leg spread adjustment mechanism is also controlled through the handset. This allows the carer to alter the width of the base of the lifter while approaching a chair. A single hand control means less fuss in preparation of the lift. The front castors move while the rear castors remain stationary.
Control Unit Battery Pack
Emergency Stop Emergency Up/Down
Low Battery Buzzer
Control Box
The sophisticated control unit comes in two parts: the control box and the battery pack. The control box is connected to the handset, the actuator (electrical pump) and the battery pack, and governs the electrical workings of the Skipper 175. Circuitry includes overload protection for the actuator and a low voltage warning should the battery pack run flat. A large emergency stop button overrides all control box functions. If the handset fails to operate, an emergency up/down switch can be activated by pressing with a ball point pen tip where indicated. The battery pack is removable and needs to be recharged regularly for extended battery life and optimum performance.
15
Features
Recharging Station Designed to be fixed to a wall, the recharging station eliminates messy and dangerous power leads associated with the recharging of lifters with fixed battery packs. Recharging can now be done at a more suitable location, not just where the lifter is stored. The recharging station will recharge a battery pack in a matter of hours. An indicator light shows the status of the battery pack during the recharging cycle.
Actuator The linear actuator is fitted with several safety features:
• Mechanical splines inside the shaft ensure that the Release Mechanism
actuator can never be used in a pull application and therefore crush or squeeze an object.
• An Internal brake prevents the actuator creeping down.
• In the event of a functional failure of the main lifting nut inside the shaft, a safety nut is fitted as a back up.
• By pulling up the red Release Mechanism, the patient may be lowered. This is an additional safety feature in the event of electrical failure. The speed at which a patient is lowered is determined by their weight. The mechanism can be adjusted for descent rate by an authorised agent.
16
Features
Attachment Options The Pro-Med Lifting System’s innovating design allows multi-use versatility by providing a range of boom-end fixtures and accessories for use with multiple lifters.
Yoke ( 2 Hook and 4 Hook) The Yoke is the standard attachment for general purpose lifters for use with the following slings:
• General Purpose Sling; • General Purpose Sling with Head Support; • General Purpose Toileting Sling with Head Support;
• Two Piece Band; and • Hammock Sling A Four Point (Hook) Yoke is also available for use with the above slings and, when used in conjunction with a floor lift strap kit, can be used to lift a Pro-Med lifting frame. Safe Working Load *200kg
Pivoting Frame/Banana Sling The Pivoting Frame/Banana Sling Option allows a patient to be lifted in either a sitting or lying position. The frame spreads the sling attachment points to ensure the patient’s hips are not excessively flexed, avoiding the discomfort obese patients sometimes experience with standard slings. The ability to position a patient in the sitting posture greatly assists correct seating. The reclining position is ideal for lifting on or off a bed or off the floor. The unique additional pivot at the end of the boom allows the whole frame to be rocked back and forth. Safe Working Load *200kg * The maximum lift capacity of a lifter and boom-end fixture combination is determined by the lower of the Safe Working Load of either the boom-end fixture or the lifter. 17
Features
Weighing Device The PRO-MED weighing device is rated to 300 kg (660 lb) Safe Working Load, and suits all Pro-Med and Voyager lifting systems.
A quick release mechanism provides easy inter-change of lifters and attachments.

Safety Precautions
Please read and understand the following before using a PRO-MED patient lifter:
22
•
PRO-MED patient lifters are designed to transfer people distances spanning no more than a few metres - typically bed to chair or chair to chair, i.e. transfers occurring in the same room. To transport a patient distances further than a few metres, PRO-MED advises the user to transfer the patient to a wheelchair or trolley first.
•
PRO-MED patient lifters are designed to be operated on level surfaces. Operating a PRO-MED patient lifter on an incline can be very dangerous as the lifter becomes difficult to handle and the load unstable.
•
Do not use Pro-Med products with other brands of patient lifters / slings unless specified.
