1 General information 1.1 User instructions •• Before use, thoroughly read these instructions for use, the maintenance manual and the instructions for use of the electrosurgical generator ESG‑400. •• If the required instructions for use or the maintenance manual of the ESG-400 are missing, immediately contact an Olympus representative. •• Keep the instructions for use in a safe, accessible location.
1.2 Signal words The following signal words are used throughout this document. WARNING Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, can result in death or serious injury. CAUTION Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, can result in minor or moderate injury. NOTICE Indicates a property damage message.
1.3 Conventions throughout this document This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert the user to potential physical injury hazards. Observe all safety messages that follow this symbol to avoid possible injury. This symbol indicates additional helpful information.

2 Safety information 2.1 Intended use Test cables for performing an electrical safety test on the electrosurgical generator ESG‑400.
2.2 User qualification The user must have received appropriate training in using and maintaining the ESG-400. The electrical safety check must only be carried out by a qualified electrician with sufficient experience in maintaining medical electrical devices.
2.3 Environment of use The electrical safety test must only be carried out in a technical laboratory with appropriate equipment.
2.4 General dangers, warnings and cautions The following dangers, warnings and cautions apply to the general handling of the product. This information is to be supplemented by the dangers, warnings and cautions given in each chapter in this document or in the instructions for use of any product being used with this product. WARNING Mechanical stress Excessive mechanical stress applied to the cables can damage the cables and its insulations.

Safety information This can result in electric shock and thermal injury to the patient, the user and the medical personnel. Furthermore, mechanical stress to the cables can cause malfunction of the electrosurgical equipment which can result in patient injury. •• Do not excessively bend, strain or squeeze the cables. WARNING Liquids If liquids get on or into the electrosurgical generator, then this can cause electric shock to the user as well as damage to the electrosurgical generator which can result in injury to the user. •• Keep liquids away from all electrical equipment. •• If liquids get on or into the electrosurgical generator, then immediately stop the operation. CAUTION Unsuitable operating conditions Using the electrosurgical generator and the test equipment under conditions other than specified can compromise the test results which can result in patient injury. •• Only use the electrosurgical generator and the test equipment according the operating conditions as described in the chapter “Technical data” on page 15. NOTICE Wrong connections If the 4-mm plugs of the test cables are connected to a receptacle of the MONOPOLAR socket of the electrosurgical generator, then this can result in damage to the MONOPOLAR socket. •• Only connect the 4-mm plugs of the serivce cables to the receptacles of the test equipment, e.g. electrical safety tester.

3 Product description 3.1 Scope of delivery •• Before use, check that all items listed below are available. •• Contact an Olympus representative or an authorized service center if any items are missing or damaged. -- Test cable -- Instructions for use The electrical safety test requires the use of test equipment, e.g. electrical safety tester with a test probe and four additional cables with stackable 4 mm plugs on each end. Those components are not included in the scope of delivery.
3.2 Test cable, for neutral electrode socket (WB979002) The cable is used to connect the neutral electrode socket of the ESG-400 with test equipment, e.g. electrical safety tester.

3.3 Test cable, for UNIVERSAL socket (WB979008) The cable is used to connect the UNIVERSAL socket of the ESG-400 with test equipment, e.g. electrical safety tester.
1) 4 mm plugs, for the connection to test equipment, e.g. electrical safety tester. 2) UNIVERSAL plug, for the connection to the UNIVERSAL socket of the ESG-400.

3.5 Warranty Any warranty claims towards Olympus are forfeited if the user or unauthorized persons attempt repair or modification of the product. No warranty is provided for any damage due to misuse of the product.

4 Connection and disconnection 4.1 Inspection before use Make sure that the product has: -- no dents, cracks, kinks, or deformations -- no cuts and other defects on the outer sleeve of the cable -- no corrosion -- no damaged electrical contacts •• Do not use if any abnormality is found.
4.2 Connecting the test cables 1. Switch on the ESG-400. 2. If required, activate the safety test function in the service menu of the ESG-400 and make sure that the button “Relays on“ is highlighted. 3. Connect the UNIVERSAL plug of the test cable (WB979008) to the UNIVERSAL socket of the ESG-400. 4. Connect the neutral electrode plug of the test cable (WB979002) to the neutral electrode socket of the ESG-400. 5. Check that both test cables are properly connected to the ESG-400.

Refer to the maintenance manual of the ESG-400 for a detailed safety test description. Always perform measurements in accordance with local applicable guidelines and the instructions for use of the measuring equipment.
4.3 Disconnecting the test cables 1. Switch off the ESG-400. 2. Switch off the test equipment. 3. Disconnect all cables connected to the ESG-400 and the electrical test equipment, e.g. electrical safety tester.

Repair, shipment and disposal
5 Repair, shipment and disposal 5.1 Repair There is no repair service. •• Do not send the product to Olympus for repair. •• Do not attempt to repair or modify the product.
5.2 Shipment When sending products to Olympus for warranty claims, note the following. Packaging •• Use the original cardboard packaging for the transport of the product. •• If this is not possible, wrap each component individually in sufficient paper or sheets of foamed material and place them in a cardboard box. •• Add a short description of the recognized fault. Service centers do not accept warranty claims for damage caused by inadequate packaging.
5.3 Disposal When disposing of the product or any of its components, follow all applicable national and local laws and guidelines.
