Asena Software table and Teach Learn function The Learn Pump requests data from the teach pump
Teach Pump
“I want your data said the ‘Learn Pump’ to the ‘Teach Pump’”
The Pump is powered on (Note: if you put the Pump into access code 000 you will not have nurse call back alarm)
Learn Pump
000 167
The Pump has to be in learn mode Access code 167
How the data is transferred between Pumps
Example ‘Learn Pump’ (Software MKIII V 2.2.1) --------- ‘Teach Pump’ (Software MKII V1.5.10) 1. The ‘Learn Pump’ will ask the ‘Teach Pump’ how it is configured for each individual configuration of data. 2. The ‘Learn Pump’ will have new features that the ‘Teach Pump’ does not have in its software. 3. When the ‘Learn Pump’ asks for configuration from the ‘Teach Pump’ doest not have the ‘Learn Pump’ will show that the data being transferred has failed. 4. Data that has failed to be transferred will have to be entered in by hand onto the ‘Learn Pump’.
Teach Learning between the same iteration When Teach Learning between the same iteration of software ‘data transfer errors’ should not occur. If data fails to be transferred, retry the download process until the Pump passes. If data is unable to be transferred after various attempts enter data onto the pump by hand.

Teach Learn Configuration of a pump may be achieved using the learn mode between pumps of the same model type. The learn operation is by a best effort method. This means the learning pump will query the teaching pump for configuration. If the learning pump asks for a configuration which does not exist in the teaching pump the process will pause and the communications command relevant to the feature will be displayed. The following list shows the parameters which cannot be taught to version V2.2.1 from earlier versions. Some parameters not relevant to the model are requested during the learn process. Parameter

After upgrading to this version of software the Asena Syringe Pump will require a complete reconfiguration (cold start) and recalibration. Please note if you experience issues with down loading software try clearing the RAM prior to download (611)
Teach learning multiply pumps using USB I have found it very successful to download software to two Asena pumps at a time using the USB ports on a Laptop. This can be preformed using two USB to serial converters.
USB to Serial converter
Serial to IrDA OR RS232 Cable

USB to Serial converter
Serial to IrDA or RS232 Cable

PC
1. Connect the ‘USB to serial converter’ to the USB port at the back of your PC. 2. Connect the ‘USB to serial converter’ to the ‘RS232 to the IrDA connector’ (Part number 0000EL008370). Use a 5v power supply to the RS232 to the IrDA connector’ if necessary. 3. If the pump has RS232 you can run Connect the ‘USB to serial converter’ to the ‘RS232 cable (Part number DEC001) and download the pump through the RS232 4. The ‘USB to serial converter’ will require a Driver (included with connector) to be added to your PC. It is possible to order the ‘USB to serial converter’ ALARIS IT or me.

Justin’s Top Tips for a successful download
Please make sure you use the IrDA, leaving a distance of around 5cms between transmitter and pump IrDA window. Please ensure you are using a 5V power supply to energise the IrDA transmitter, so as to eliminate low PC output power as a cause. The PSUs supplied with the latest kits are for UK and European socket styles, although I am sure a basic 5V supply is available for minimal costs in Australia. Polarity is the only point to be aware of. Of course this should not be necessary with RS232 cable you have been using. I am not sure is a reduction in the Baud rate of transmission has an effect, but you could try this. Finally, reduce to a minimum all direct sunlight and fluorescent light sources, applicable to IrDA only!
