LenSx™ Laser System Device Cleaning Date: July 15th 2020 The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) includes 70% Isopropyl alcohol in its recommendations for disinfecting against COVID-19. A full list of approved disinfection agents can be found at www.epa.gov. For your medical devices, it is important to note that only cleaning products that have been approved by the manufacturer should be used. The information below is intended to provide guidance on cleaning and disinfection for LenSx™ Laser System and its accessories.         Alcon recommends using Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) as disinfectant. Use a solution containing 70% Isopropyl alcohol, as recommended by the CDC. Clean the outer surfaces of LenSx system which the patient or the surgeon has come into contact during the procedure with a soft cloth, fully moistened, but not dripping with 70% Isopropyl alcohol. Do not use solvents such as acetone to clean the device. Do not mix IPA with strong solvents such as acetone. To prevent damaging the device console or its accessories, do not spray or pour cleaning agents directly on the panels or accessories. Do not wipe clean or disinfect the bottom left side panel for power entry and back panel for test points. Avoid moisture getting inside of the instrument since this is likely to create electrical hazards. To clean displays, use commercial cleaning cloths for computers and computer screens only. Do not apply extensive pressure. Make sure to fully wipe off or let enough time to evaporate any cleaning agent residues. Never touch or clean the objective lens of the laser exit aperture. The laser exit aperture may only be inspected and cleaned by Alcon service engineers. To clean and disinfect the objective area, install the objective protective cover. Wipe the bottom panels and silver bezel that covers the objective assembly using the above method. Let dry before removing the objective protective cover. The American Academy of Ophthalmology has provided guidelines for the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to help reduce the risk to patients and employees of virus transmission. In addition to our existing device-specific directions for use and manuals of operation, Alcon is developing recommendations on the use of optional device-specific protective measures and will make these recommendations available to our customers through our information website. Alcon cannot guarantee sterility or exclusion of any risk of infection of COVID-19 during the use of their devices.
