1 Intended Use The Leakage Tester is designed to check watertightness of Olympus endoscopes in conjunction with Olympus Light Source or Maintenance Unit (MU-1).

Water drops inside the Connector Cap may enter the endoscope through the Venting Connector of the endoscope’s Light Guide Connector Section or Water-resistant Cap and damage the internal construction. Remove them by shaking the Connector Cap several times.

6 Operation Refer to the instructions manual of the Light Sources, Maintenance Unit and Endoscopes.
6.1
Connecting to the Light Source (or Maintenance Unit)
1. Turn the power switch ON. 2. When using the Light Source, set the air feeding pressure to “HIGH” or “3” using the air regulator switch. • When using a Light Source other than OES/EVIS, turn ON the switch and ignition switch (if applicable). • Adjust the Light Source brightness to the minimum light output. 3. Insert the Leakage Tester’s Connector fully into the output socket, then make sure that the air pump’s operating noise is heard. •

When using a Light Source other than OES/EVIS, make sure that air is emitted through the air pipe inside the output socket.
Connecting to the Endoscope
1. Lightly depress the pin inside the Connector Cap and ensure that air is being emitted through the Coiled Tube. • Repeat Section 6.1 above, if air is not emitted. 2. Make sure that no water drop is present inside the Connector Cap.
3. Check that the Venting Connector of the endoscope’s Light Guide Connector Section or Water-resistant Cap is free from water drops. •
Wipe dry the Venting Connector with a piece of gauze to prevent the endoscope internal construction from getting damaged. 4. Place the Connector Cap over the Venting Connector, aligning the Pin on the Connector with the keyway on the Connector Cap. Depress and rotate the Connector Cap clockwise (approximately 90) until no further rotation is possible.
5. Pull the Connector Cap outward and make sure that it does not come off. • • •

At this point, note an expansion of the Bending Section’s covering due to increased internal pressure. When attaching the Leakage Tester, always connect it to the Light Source first. Reversing Sections 6.1 and 6.2 (i.e. connecting to the endoscope first) will damage the endoscope. Connect it to the Venting Connector of the endoscope’s Light Guide Connector Section or Water-resistant Cap before putting the endoscope in water; otherwise water will leak into the endoscope.
Leakage Testing
1. Immerse entire endoscope in water. 2. Observe the endoscope carefully for about 1 minute. If no bubbling is observed from the endoscope, the endoscope is watertight. Proceed to Section 6.4. • •
Some initial bubbling may be observed due to air trapped in crevices on the endoscope’s outer surface. This is normal. A thorough observation may be achieved by turning over the endoscope in water. Continuous bubbling from a given area indicates a leak. DO NOT USE ENDOSCOPE.
3. If continuous bubbling in observed from a given area, this indicates a leak. • • • •
Remove the endoscope from the water immediately. Turn OFF Light Source and disconnect the Leakage Tester from the Light Source. Wait approximately 30 seconds (or until the covering of the Bending Section returns to its normal shape); then disconnect the opposite end of Leakage Tester from the endoscope. DO NOT USE THE ENDOSCOPE. And send it to Olympus.

Disconnecting the Leakage Tester
1. Remove the entire endoscope from the water and turn OFF the Light Source (or Maintenance Unit). 2. Disconnect the Leakage Tester from the Light Source (or Maintenance Unit). 3. Wait approximately 30 seconds (or until the covering of the Bending Section returns to its normal shape). 4. Disconnect the Leakage Tester from the Venting Connector on the endoscope’s Light Guide Connector Section or Water-resistant Cap by depressing and rotating it counterclockwise. • •
Do not detach the Leakage Tester before the endoscope has been removed from the water. When detaching the Leakage Tester, always disconnect it from the Light Source first. Failure to follow this exact procedure will not allow the instrument to depressurize and damage will result. 5. Thoroughly dry the Leakage Tester.
7 Maintenance and Storage 7.1
Leakage Tester
1. Clean the Leakage Tester with a piece of gauze moistened with 70% ethyl or isopropyl alcohol. 2. Remove any moisture from the Connector Cap.
