BASIC ANAESTHETIC MACHINE FUNCTION  YES  NO  Identify On/ Off switch  Check suction jar and tubing are fitted correctly and working            Check AGSS is connected to hospital scavenging system and check float is visible in the window      Identify auxiliary O2 therapy meter and check it is functioning Ensure O2 sensor is attached correctly        Ensure flow sensor tubing and patient airway flow sensor are attached and not damaged      Attach appropriate breathing circuit to be used      CYLINDER AND PIPELINES  YES  NO  WITH THE MACHINE SWITCHED OFF        After disconnecting pipelines and turning off all gas cylinders check each cylinder individually by turning on and ensuring the gauge registers an adequate supply of gas      Turn off each cylinder in turn and check there is no observable movement of the gauge over 1 minute      Reconnect pipeline supplies and check pressure gauges show hospital pipeline pressure      FLOWBLOCK ASSEMBLIES  YES  NO  Turn all flow control knobs on and check no gas flow shows on flow block assembly      Switch the machine ON      Check that no gas flows are registered on any of the flowblock except for the O2 flowblock assembly      Adjust flow of gases through their full range, ensuring no erratic float movement      Ensure correct operation of the hypoxic guard      Ensure bellows and absorber are attached correctly Identify common gas outlet  Check Cylinders are securely and correctly mounted  1
