1.2
Note this point. Refer to another section/guide.
Models covered Brandon Galaxy Ultra lamps are a modular design and are available in virtually any combination of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 lamp heads. Within the specific model numbers, eg Galaxy Ultra 54, the first digit defines the number of LED modules in the main lamp head and the subsequent digit defines the satellites. A low ceiling model has the suffix LC.
Throughout this guide reference is typically made to GLED5, GLED4, etc and this relates equally to the number of modules a main lamp head or a satellite lamp head. Up to three lamp heads can be mounted on a single central spindle. Virtually any combination can be configured and some degree of customisation is also possible. For example, a GLED54 will be made up of a 5-module main lamp and a 4-module satellite lamp and is a standard version. A GLED54LC is the same but is configured for low ceiling installations.

Electrical installation The instructions in this section apply to all Galaxy Ultra HD-LED Standard and Low Ceiling models and should be used in conjunction with the instructions later in this guide that are specific to the model you are installing.
2.1
Supply requirements
!
All standard models are 48V and should be supplied by a Brandon Medical switched-mode power supply which is separately purchased. The location of the power supplies and the associated wiring should be carried out before fitting the lamp. Check that the electrical requirements as detailed on the serial number label of the lamp correspond with your supply voltage before connecting.
A single-phased fused supply is required for each of the lamp power supplies. It is recommended that the power supplies to the main lamp and the satellites are kept separate so that failure of any one component will only affect one lamp head. A mains supply isolator is recommended to isolate the live and neutral supply for maintenance work. The isolator should be rated at a minimum of 20A and be 2- or 4pole if an emergency DC supply is present.
2.2
Refer to Section 2.8 for the wiring schematic. Brandon Medical can supply electrical accessories as required for any electrical supply.

The power supplies can only be mounted in certain orientations as shown in the following drawing.
The above specification is only for a stand-alone power supply and does not include any DC/DC change-over system or enclosure.
Switching and intensity control A remote switch to put the equipment in hibernation mode can be fitted.
Refer to the wiring schematic in Section 2.8. All on/off and intensity controls are controlled via the lamp head-mounted control pod.
IG-GLEDSTD
Refer to Instructions for Use for details. Where requested, alternative dimming arrangements can also be accommodated.

The power supplies can only be mounted in certain orientations as shown in the following drawing.
The above module can be supplied together with the power supply inside a pre-wired enclosure.
2.5
Circuit protection and indication Brandon Medical recommends the fitting of circuit breakers and indicator lamps as shown in the wiring schematic to facilitate maintenance and to protect the equipment from fault conditions.
Refer to the wiring schematic in Section 2.8.
2.6
Cable size It is recommended the distance between the power supply/emergency power switchover module and the lamp is kept to a minimum. It is recommended that the correct cable size is selected for the low voltage feed from the power supply to the lamp, to minimise the volt drop.
Refer to the cable rating table in Section 2.7.
2.7

Installation, wiring and adjustment instructions
3.2
Selecting the correct ceiling anchor ring
!
The ceiling anchor ring is used to adjust the levelling of the lamp stem to ensure that the lamp is perfectly vertical. It is essential that the mounting is both secure and perpendicular to ensure safe and trouble-free operation as the consequences are potentially serious.
It is recommended you use ceiling anchor ring, ie Part No 12981, shown in the illustration. The anchor ring is secured in position during building works so that the lamp can be fitted easily at a later stage and without risk of damage.
3.3
Refer to Section 3.3.
Mounting the flange plate (stem) Before mounting the stem tube, plan for a safe routing and connection of the 48V supply cables and run in any draw wires that might be required. Where the room has a false ceiling, the usual method is to fasten the mounting flange to the structural surface above the false ceiling so that the bottom of the stem tube is the only partly protruding into the room as shown in the illustration.

FLANGE PLATE (STEM)
IG-GLEDSTD
Galaxy Ultra HD-LED Standard Models
3.3.1
Identifying the flange plate (stem) Identity whether the stem is adjustable – mounting flange and mounting stem are separate – or made-to-measure.
3.3.2
If the stem is adjustable refer to Adjustable Stem Instructions for Use.
Fixing the flange plate (stem) and electrical isolation The light installation must be electrically isolated using the MEIGaN insulation washers provided in order to meet MEIGaN, IEE Guidance Note (Chapter 10) and IEE 60364-7-710 for Electrical Installation in Medical Locations. The lamp mounting plate/stem must be securely fastened to either the ceiling anchor ring or directly to the structural surfaces using 6-off M16, or equivalent fixings.
!
It is essential that the mounting is both secure and perpendicular to ensure safe and trouble-free operation as the consequences are potentially serious.
To adjust the level of the stem, adjust the half nuts up or down the threads and resecure using the M16 full nuts. The typical MEIGaN fixing is shown below.

3.3.3
Assembling the ceiling cover Start by sliding the ceiling cover support ring over the stem and secure it temporarily in place using the 3 x M4 grub screws supplied. Next, join the two halves of the ceiling cover together around the stem and secure using the M5 bolts provided. Slide the ceiling plate cover over the flange plate followed by the ceiling cover support ring. Secure with M4 grub screws.
!
Do not overtighten the M4 grub screws. You are able to fit the ceiling cover later, but you must install the ceiling cover support ring now.

Fixing the articulation arm assembly (structure)
This instruction applies to all models except GLED40, GLED30, GLED20 and GLED10. Refer to Section 3.6 for the relevant instruction. Offer up the articulation arm assembly spindle to the flange plate stem tube and draw the lamp supply cables through the flange plate to the point of connection. Insert the lamp mechanism spindle into the bottom of the stem tube. Ensure the fixing holes align with the threaded holes in the lamp spindle. Secure with the 8 x M8 hex drive countersunk head screws supplied.
!
The 8 screws must be thread-locked using a proprietary threadlock adhesive, such as Loctite 243 or PermaBond A1042.
