This reusable absorber canister is used with anesthesia machines having the Compact Breathing System (CBS).
Intended use The GE Healthcare reusable absorber canister is intended for use with GE anesthesia machines and is used to hold absorbent which can remove the carbon dioxide (CO2) from the gases expired by a patient. The absorber canister should only be used with air, oxygen, nitrous oxide, halothane, enflurane, isoflurane, desflurane, sevoflurane and medical grade CO2 absorbent. The device is intended to be used under constant attention of qualified professional healthcare personnel. Use this manual along with the anesthesia system's User's Reference manual. Symbols Refer to the appropriate Anesthesia System User's Reference manual for additional symbol information. .

Systems with this mark agree with the European Council Directive (93/42/EEC) for Medical Devices when they are used as specified in the User’s Reference Manuals. The xxxx is the certification number of the Notified Body used by Datex-Ohmeda’s Quality Systems. First CE marked in 2019.
When to change the absorbent A gradual color change of the absorbent in the canister indicates absorption of carbon dioxide. The color change of the absorbent is only a rough indicator. Use carbon dioxide monitoring to determine when to change the canister. Immediately discard the absorbent if it has changed color. If left standing for several hours, absorbent may regain its original color giving a misleading indication of effectiveness. Read the absorbent manufacturer’s instructions completely before using the product. Filling the reusable absorber canister WARNING Be careful when emptying the absorber canister. The liquid is caustic and may burn skin. WARNING Failure to properly lock the canister cover could cause canister malfunction and breathing circuit leaks. The locking tab of the canister cover must be in the downward position and flush with the cover.
Note
The top cover wiper seal may discolor over time, however color change alone has no effect on seal function.

Remove and properly discard the absorbent and any water in the canister body. Pour fresh absorbent into the canister. Gently shake the canister from side to side to level the top of the absorbent. Make sure the absorbent in the canister does not exceed the fill line. Wipe off any absorbent dust on the top cover wiper seal and the canister sealing area. Insert the cover into the groove on the canister handle so that the arrows get covered by the black zone.(D) Attach the cover latch hook to the canister body. Push the latch handle down until it is flush with the canister cover. (E) D

10. Always perform a "Preoperative checkout" after reassembly before using the anesthesia system. Refer to the User's Reference Manual of the anesthesia system for the "Preoperative checkout".

Removing absorber canister from CBS 1. Pull down the canister lifter handle to unlock the canister from the breathing system. (F) 2. Lift the canister and remove it from the canister lifter base. (G) F

Cleaning the canister After being removed from CBS and emptied of absorbent, the canister can be cleaned as described in “Cleaning and Sterilization” manual delivered with the Anesthesia system. Note
Local policies or regulations may require that maintenance be performed more frequently than stated here. Daily: Empty the water reservoir and replace the absorbent in the canister. Every 12 months: Inspect the wiper seal and o-ring (if applicable) and replace as necessary. Parts 2 3
