Precautions in work Safety measures against infection in medical practice Preparation for infection control items (1) Disposable masks, disposable rubber or plastic gloves, disposable protecting gowns (2) Disinfectant solution for hand washing, sterilizing solution for product cleaning (3) Sealed plastic bags for carrying back repair products
Sterilization of workers and equipment (1) In case of bodily contamination by blood and body fluid ・ In case blood and body fluid is attached to the skin, wash it immediately with running water. ・ In case of airborne droplet to a cut wound, a puncture wound or an eye, wash it immediately with much water. ・ In case of getting into a mouth, never swallow, and gargle repeatedly. (2) In case of clothes or tools being contaminated ・Autoclave working clothes wrapped with parchment paper, or soak them in 0.2% solution of sodium hypochlorite for sterilization. After that, wash them by an ordinary way. It is also effective to use EOG (note that metal will be oxidized), but when they are much contaminated, burn them up. ・ In case of possible contamination of tools in use, wipe them off immediately, and wash them in running water if possible. After that, sterilize them with 2% solution of glutarardehyde. It is also effective to use EOG or to autoclave, but take into account the effect to be produced on such tools. (3) In case of moving the devices used for endoscopy in a hospital ・ Be careful not to have such devices touched with bare hands of a third party to prevent secondary infection. ・ Before carrying them back, clean the outer surface, accessories and power cords of the devices with a cloth wetted with ethanol for disinfection or 2% solution of glutarardehyde ・ In doing so, be sure to wear a protective item such as rubber gloves, and dispose of such used cloth at the hospital according to the method designated by the hospital manager. (4) In case of checkup or maintenance of such devices ・ Be sure to use rubber gloves, clean the outer surfaces of the devices with disinfectant, and start checkup or maintenance work. In case blood or body fluid remains inside the devices, be sure to wear a protecting gown, mask, and protecting glasses. ・ After the work is finished, wash your hands and fingers well with disinfectant solution, and wash them in running water.
Also do the same for the tools used.
(5) In case of device contamination ・ Clean the device housing and power cords with a cloth wetted by alcohol for disinfection or 2% solution of glutarardehyde.

Precautions regarding electricity Be fully careful about electrical shock in performing a withstand voltage test or a leakage current test, and read thoroughly the instruction manual of a measuring instrument before use. Also, wear protectors when required.
Others In replacing lamps, wait till the lamp has been cooled. Never touch the insulating portion of the lamp main body (it may result in failure in getting the lamp lighted). Never touch the glass portion of the lamp (if sebum remains on the glass, it may get carbonized and cause the glass to be cracked).
Precautions in carrying back products from customers As for the products received for repair or carried back from customers, handle them basically as contaminated. Accept a customer’s request for repair on conditions that the products to be repaired have been disinfected at the hospital. Put a mark “Contaminated” or “Disinfected” on each of the products received for repair. In carrying back unsterilized products, pack them in double-sealed plastic bags with a mark “Unsterilized” indicated on the outer bag. If blood is attached on them, indicate “Blood attached.” The bags only should be packed in one carton box, or if any documents are contained in the box, put the documents in another case and pack the case together with the bags in one carton box.
Handling of personal information In carrying back the products to be repaired, erase all the patient data recorded or contained in the products under the customer’s permission. Basically, do not bring back any media (MO disk, compact flash memory, etc.) that contain video prints or image files which have data to identify individuals. If you require such data for trouble analysis by necessity, prepare and fill out a temporary receipt as shown below with a return date specified, and leave it with the customer.
