Giraffe™ and Panda™ Warmers Control PCA replacements PURPOSE TM

GE Healthcare has recently become aware that some Giraffe and Panda Warmers may experience a Dim/Dark Display issue. The issue is limited to units manufactured 2007 through January 31, 2015 using Control Board 2065760-001 Rev G or earlier and M1087687 (any revision).
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS Follow the enclosed Installation Instructions to replace the Control Board as well as the Alarm Light Board and Lens, dependent upon need as determined by the flowchart in the Installation Instructions.

Purpose GE Healthcare has recently become aware that the Control Board in GiraffeTM and PandaTM Warmer is requiring early/unscheduled replacement in some machines. This document provides all instructions needed to complete FMI 32057.
Scope This instruction and parts referenced are applicable only to unit’s that are part of this FMI, and have the Control Boards 2065760-001 Rev G or earlier and M1087687 (any revision).

The end user may not require the other parts in this kit (Alarm PCA and Alarm Lens) if the unit has been updated to the new alarm standard. The decision tree (See Figure 3) will determine what parts will need to be installed as part of this FMI kit.

IEC Alarms Upgrade To comply with the IEC 60601-1-8 Edition 2.1 standard, GE Healthcare has made changes to the way alarm conditions are signaled both visually and audibly to the operator on Giraffe™ and Panda™ Warmer products. Note: No changes were made to alarm definitions, alarm triggers, durations for which the alarm can be silenced, or how the alarms are terminated.
Alarm Changes The following changes have been made to the way alarm conditions are signaled visually and audibly to the operator: •
The red alarm light has changed to a white device indicator light.

The graphical user interface (GUI) has changed to indicate the priority of alarm conditions (see also Figure 1).

The auditory alarm signals have been updated to improve spacial localization. The white device indicator light helps the operator to locate the specific device with an alarm condition (see Figure 2).
All visual and audible alarm signals are compliant with IEC 60601-1-8 Edition 2.1.
FMI KIT Procedure SENSITIVE TO ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE CAUTION An Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Susceptibility symbol is displayed to alert service personnel that the part(s) are sensitive to electrostatic discharge and that static control procedures must be used to prevent damage to the equipment. 4

Unplug unit from the wall before working on any part of the unit.
Upper Heater Housing Removal

For wall mount models, remove the heater head from the wall bracket. Use a 3mm hex key to remove 8 socket head screws, split ring washers, and flat washers that secure the upper heater housing to the lower housing and remove the upper heater housing. Lift the upper housing from its top, front edge (removing the top of the housing allows access to the alarm light board and alarm light lens)

Remove the 2 captive screws with a 3mm hex key, that secure the electronic enclosure on either side of the lens. Tilt the top of the electronics enclosure out to allow access to the screws securing the back of the Alarm Light Board. To remove the Alarm Light Board, use a 2mm hex key to remove two screws that secure the Alarm Light Board to the electronic enclosure. Disconnect its electrical connectors. When replacing the Alarm Light Board, reconnect the ribbon cable first. When installed the LED’s will be oriented on the bottom of the board. During the replacement of the Alarm Light Board and while the enclosure is still tilted remove the Alarm Lens. Use a 3mm hex key to remove two screws that secure the Alarm Lens to the housing. (See Figure 4). Once the Alarm Light PCA and Alarm Lens have been replaced, reinstall the Electronic Enclosure and Upper Housing in reverse order.

Loosen the 2 captive screws at the top of the enclosure’s rear panel, then tilt the panel down and lift the 2 tabs at the bottom of the panel up out of the slots that they seat in. Loosen the 4 captive screws that secure the power board panel and tilt it down away from the unit. Disconnect the control boards 10 electrical connectors. Loosen the 2 captive screws that secure the control board, and remove the board. Once the Control board is replaced, reinstall the electronics into the enclosure in reverse order. Upon control board replacement, make sure to select the correct product model on the screen display only the first time that the unit is turned on after control board replacement.
