The modular design enables the Bathmaster 2000 to be dismantled into manageable parts for transportation and storage. The Bathmaster 2000 must not be used on an incline of greater than 5°. This equipment must only be used with accessories, batteries and chargers that are supplied and recommended by AbilityOne Homecraft Ltd. The suitability of the apparatus to lift persons must be judged by the operator and the condition of the person being lifted must be taken into account when selecting the type of bath lift to be used. The Bathmaster 2000 has a maximum lifting capacity of 190kg (420 Lbs). The maximum lifting capacity must never be exceeded. An overload protection mechanism is incorporated and will operate if the maximum load is exceeded. In the event that a patient exceeding the maximum load is partially lowered before the overload mechanism operates the patient can be lifted by manually bearing a small proportion of their weight which will allow the overload mechanism to reset. Note: The overload mechanism will reset automatically however it is important to ensure the unit is not damaged in any way and should be carefully inspected before the next lift.

The Bathmaster 2000 is a patient bathing device intended for use with human patients for the purpose of entering and leaving a bath. Designed to make the pleasure of taking a bath safer and easier, for both the user and carer, the Bathmaster 2000 is a folding powered bath seat used to assist the bather into and out of the bath. No additional plumbing or electrical installation is required to enjoy the benefits of the Bathmaster 2000.

The folding action of the Bathmaster 2000 enables the user to carry, transport and store this bathlift more easily than fixed frame bathlifts. The Bathmaster 2000 seat and backrest are padded with foam, which is covered in flame retardant PVC. The PVC has been treated to inhibit mould growth and is welded to water tight the seat and backrest. a)

The Bathmaster 2000 is easily positioned in any standard bath. It stands on four large, load spreading feet with suckers, that may be twisted to suit the curved floor of the bath. The suckers have integral ‘pull-up’ tabs enabling the Bathmaster 2000 to be easily removed from the bath. The Bathmaster 2000 is robust and waterproof and therefore should not require any servicing throughout its life.

A Hand Controller is needed for use with the Bathmaster 2000. This may be a standard rechargeable unit (AA1336L) containing batteries or the Hi-power Hand Controller with a separate power pack (AA1339), to give more lifts per charge. Each Hand Controller is completely waterproof and has two suckers on its base allowing it to be secured where convenient.

Recharging units are needed for both the Standard Hand Controller and the Hi-power Power Pack. These are electrically approved low voltage rechargers designed for the appropriate countries’ electricity supply.

1.5 Side flaps protectors see Fig 6 (AA1349) Strong plastic protectors, which hang over the internal handles of baths, enable the side flaps to move smoothly up the bath without catching under the handles. They may, with care, be trimmed to length to suit the depth of the bath. Supplied as a pair.

2.0 Fitting Bathmaster 2000 2.1 Safety precautions Before using Bathmaster 2000 for the first time, read these instructions and familiarise yourself with the product and the lifting techniques. Bathmaster 2000 is operated using low voltage rechargeable batteries. The Hand Controller is designed so that it cannot be charged at the same time as being connected to the Bathmaster 2000. The Hand Controller must not recharged in the bathroom. Do not use the bath lift if metal parts of connectors or wires are exposed. Ensure that connectors are fully mated before the bath lift is used. Bathlifts are intended for use in many different designs of baths. In narrow baths it is possible that as the seat moves, the gap between parts of the bath and the seat become narrow and body parts ie. fingers may become trapped. It is therefore preferable, where possible, that the up and down movement of the seat is operated by the bather rather than an assistant, so they have complete control. The seat will only move whilst the controller buttons are pressed down. Hands should be kept clear of the bath sides, bath floor and the sides of the seat when descending or ascending. Legs and feet should not be tucked under the seat, ensure the user’s feet are situated beyond the front legs of the frame. Ensure the controller is positioned so the cable does not become trapped or damaged in use and the movement of the seat does not separate the connecting lead ends of the lift unit and the Hand Controller. Children must not be allowed to play with Bathmaster 2000. Store the lift unit safely where it will not fall over, or leave it situated in the bath if convenient and keep the Hand Controller out of the reach of children. Take particular care to avoid back injury when lifting the Bathmaster 2000 unit in and out of the bath. When handling and lifting Bathmaster 2000 ensure there is sufficient room to unfold and fold up the frame. Make sure the bathroom floor is dry and free of obstructions to minimise the risk of stumbling, falling and dropping the lift unit. Recharge the standard hand controller pack after each use. Periodically check battery performance (indicated by the speed of the motor and the number of lifts per charge). When using Bathmaster 2000 for more than one person, remember to clean the seat pad after each use using a suitable disinfectant wipe, spray or a mild disinfectant washing solution. Ensure that excess disinfectant is removed from the seat. Do not use Bathmaster 2000 for other uses than which it is designed. Do not use the Bathmaster 2000 as a support to help you stand or steady yourself.

2.2 Unfolding the lift unit To unfold the frame, lay the Bathmaster 2000 lift unit face down Fig 8 on the floor, swing open the legs and rest them on the floor. Turn the lift unit on its side and whilst supporting the lift unit with one hand, swing the legs round until they automatically clip into their locked position (see Fig 8). Check that the legs are locked home and resist being swung back. The Bathmaster 2000 lift unit is now ready to be lifted into the bath. Some baths have unusual shapes, these include curved floors, narrow sections and projecting handles. Therefore, before use, ensure that nothing in or around the bath will prevent the lift unit from standing securely and squarely on its sucker feet, also that it can be raised and lowered freely without catching under or on, any part of the bath surface, the taps and adjacent fittings. NOTE: There are a few extremely narrow or contoured designs of bath in which a powered bath seat cannot be used, but this is rare.

2.0 Fitting Bathmaster 2000 2.3 Positioning the lift unit in the bath Stand the lift unit upright and position it close to the bath so you minimise the carrying distance to the bath and the eventual lift into the bath. Detach the seat unit. Grasp the upper portion of the lift unit frame with two hands. Lift the frame keeping it close to your body and lower the lift unit into the bath, at the same time bend your knees and keep your back straight. Do not lift the unit by grasping the grey bellows. Position the lift unit as far away from the tap fixtures as possible with the seat side facing the tap fixtures if they are situated at the end of the bath.

2.4 Fitting the seat to the lift unit To minimise the risk of back strain, fit the seat after positioning the lift unit in the bath. The seat is designed to easily fit into position. To engage, simply locate the two hooks on the back of the seat onto the upper two metal studs on the grey carriage of the lift unit. Drop down into position (see Fig 10).

2.5 Side flaps see Fig 1 Hinges are attached to every side flap, each with a tongue that locates in a corresponding location socket on the edge of the seat. Locate the tips of both hinges into the socket sets pushing a little at a time at each end until the spring catches engage. To remove the flaps, push a pencil or similar object into the central holes in the hinge retaining plates to depress the spring catches and ease each hinge out alternately a few millimetres at a time. Any attempt to force the hinges either in or out may result in damage. The side flaps are most easily fitted when the seat is near the top of the unit. Simply fold the seat up to the vertical position and slot the side flap/s into the seat (see fig 11) as described in section 2.1. Tilt the seat back to the horizontal position and ensure the side flaps are positioned inclined upwards and not down towards the floor of the bath and that the side flaps will not catch under any handles fitted to the bath as the seat rises on its return travel. If so, use of the side protectors may be required. The Bathmaster 2000 should not be used without both side a) flaps fitted.

3.0 Fitting and removing optional extras

2.6 Side flaps protectors Before fitting, the protectors may need trimming to suit the depth of the bath. Remove sharp corners of the cut end with abrasive paper or a file. When the correct size has been achieved, simply hook the protectors over the inset handles of the bath (see Fig 6).

2.7 Connecting the hand controller Plug the connector (Fig 2) of the Hand Controller into the matching plug on the lead from the lift unit. A location rib and corresponding groove are provided to ensure the plugs are connected correctly. Position the Hand Controller at the side of the bath using the suckers. Ensure that the cable runs clear of the seat and the connector will not become disconnected as a result of the movement of the seat. If using the Hi-power pack, also connect the second lead to the power pack at point (c) (Fig 3A). a) 'up' button c) b) 'down' button

3.1 Safety strap see Fig 7 - Optional accessory Run your hand over the rear, upper portion of the backrest. You will be able to feel four screw holes through the vinyl. Pierce a small hole through the vinyl at this location for each screw. Select screws (a) and place them through the plastic caps of the safety straps (b). Fit the straps so that the hook tape faces outwards from the user and the softer loop tape faces inwards towards the user. Screw down the caps and straps onto the backrest until secure.

4.0 Using the Bathmaster 2000 4.1 Using the hand controller Control of the Bathmaster 2000 is managed by using the Hand Controller, (see Fig 2). To raise or lower the seat, the appropriate switch pad marked with an arrow must be pressed. The hand controller buttons can be pressed with the fingers, heal of the hand or elbow if necessary. If there is a need to stop the seat during lowering or raising simply release pressure on the switch pad. To reverse the direction, the other pad is pressed- The seat will automatically stop when it reaches the top or bottom of the lift unit. 4.1.1 Standard hand controller The hand controller containing batteries is fitted with a low battery warning light (see Fig 2). If the light illuminates during a lift cycle, this cycle can be completed but the down button will no longer function and the hand controller must be fully recharged before it is used again. The light will be extinguished when the recharger is plugged into the hand controller and has received approximately 60% re-charge but the full 15 hour charge cycle must be completed. 4.1.2 Hi-power hand controller When using the hi-power power pack and hand controller the level of charge left in the power pack can be checked by pressing the button (c) (Fig 5) on the power pack. The needle will indicate the level of charge. Do not use the bathlift if the needle is in the red sector. Fully charge the pack before further use.

Do not immerse the pack in water. The pack should be placed on the floor next to the bath. If the pack becomes wet due to splashing it should be dried with a cloth.

Note: Due to the overload mechanism system the Bathmaster 2000 seat may not go down without downwards pressure being applied to the seat. 4.2 Using the bath lift 1. Raise or lower the seat so that it is level with the rim of the bath. 2. Stand with your back to the bath and sit down on its edge with the seat directly behind you. 3. Slide back until your buttocks are central on the seat. 4. Swing round, raising each leg over the edge of the bath. 5. Using the hand controller, lower the seat into the bath keeping the other hand and feet away from the underneath of the seat.

Note. At any time in the descent or ascent, the lift unit can be stopped by releasing pressure on the switch pad and travel in the opposite direction by depressing the other pad. 6. When rising out of the bath ensure the flaps, and the users hands, do not become caught under any handles fitted into the bath. 7. Alight from the seat using the method in 2-4 above, in reverse.

4.0 Using the Bathmaster 2000 contin. 4.3 After use 1. Disconnect the controller from the seat by pulling apart the connectors (Fig 2). If using a power b) 'down' button pack also disconnect the Hand Controller from the pack (see Fig 3A). 2. Recharge the Hand Controller or Hi-power Pack - (See Recharging the Controllers' section 4.) 3. To remove the Bathmaster 2000 from the bath, first remove the seat by folding the seat to the vertical position. To unlock the seat, lift the grey Fig 2 latch found under the rear of the seat, near the lift unit frame, and lift the seat clear.

To remove the Bathmaster 2000 main unit from the floor of the bath, release the ‘pull- up’ tabs on the suckers, Fig 1A, in turn whilst tilting the lift unit sideways, and then backwards to avoid sticking the suckers back down on the bath. Sliding a flannel or small towel under each sucker as it is released will prevent it re-attaching itself to the bath and assist removal. Finally, lift the unit clear of the bath. At this stage it may be necessary to dry the Bathmaster 2000 before transport or storage.

4.4 Folding and storage see Fig 8 Position the lift unit side ways on the floor, then pull the release catch (Fig 13) and swing the legs back round to their closed position. As the legs swing round there is a natural tendency for the Bathmaster 2000 to lay face down. Continue to fold the legs back until they stop, taking care not to trap the cable or connector. Carefully lift the Bathmaster 2000 using the top of the lift unit as a handle. Take care when lifting, bend the knees, keep your back straight and keep the bath lift close to your body. Store in a dry place, where the unit will not become dirty, damaged, or may fall over.

5.0 Recharging the batteries 5.1 Recharging the hand controller

Note: it is important to ensure the hand controller connector is dry before connecting the recharger. To charge the controller, unplug it from the bathlift and plug it into the recharger.

The recharger, fig 4, should then be plugged into your mains electricity and the power switched on. The charging light (a) indicates that the controller is charging. Check the light is on. A full recharge will take approx. 15 hours. Note: The charging light will illuminate when the recharger is correctly functioning and connected, both when the battery is charging and when charged to full capacity. Whenever bathing is finished, we recommend as good practice to place the controller on charge and leave it Fig 4 to continuously charge so it is always ready for use. After the batteries have received a full charge the recharger will automatically lower the energy put into the batteries to just keep them fully charged. The cost of keeping the recharger connected to the hand controller is minimal.

The batteries will slowly discharge if stored unconnected to the recharger. If stored for more than a few weeks the pack should be fully charged for 15 hours before further storage or subsequent use. If you experience any problems in recharging please see section 8.0, appendix 1.

5.2 Charging the hi-power pack When recharging the hi-power pack (fig 5), place the lead of the appropriate recharger into the power pack at point (b) (fig 5). Plug the recharger into the mains and switch on. The green light will illuminate indicating that it is recharging. To fully recharge the power pack will take approx. 15 hrs, if it is left on longer it will not overcharge. To check the level of charge left in the power pack, simply press the button (c) (fig 5) on the power pack. The needle will point towards the empty or fully charged symbol. Note: The meter will not give a true reading during charging or immediately thereafter.

The Hi-power Pack should not be left on continuous charge. If stored for more than one week the pack should be fully charged for 15 hours before storage and subsequent use.

5.3 Safety precaution

Safety Warning: Under no circumstances should any charger be used in the bathroom. The chargers are for indoor use only (protect against moisture). The chargers should not be used for charging non - rechargeable batteries. Use only the charger supplied. All battery packs are sealed units and batteries are non-replaceable.

6.0 Cleaning and care 6.1 General Do not use strong solutions of disinfectant on the Bathmaster 2000. Follow the instructions on the disinfectant used. If bleach is used for cleaning always ensure that a diluted solution is used and that it is thoroughly removed by rinsing with clean water. 6.2 Seat unit After bathing, wipe the seat down with disinfectant and rinse off with clean water. 6.3 Lift unit The frame and lift unit should be cleaned weekly with a mild solution of detergent or disinfectant in warm water.

7.0 Maintenance The Bathmaster 2000 should be inspected before each operation to ensure it is free from damage and excess wear. Annual inspections of the Bathmaster 2000 must be carried out in accordance with the appropriate section of EN ISO 10535. Copies of these inspection requirements can be obtained from the manufacturer. Annual testing of the Bathmaster 2000 must be carried out by trained and experienced personnel. The Bathmaster 2000 is built to give long, reliable service, without need for specific regular servicing. There are no user adjustable settings. Whilst being robust, the lift should be treated with care and in particular should not be dropped. If damage or deterioration is suspected, repair can be carried out by approved fitters. For details please contact your dealer. Technical information on servicing and repair is available on request to suitably qualified persons.

8.0 Appendix Appendix 1 If you experience any problem in recharging please read the following. a) The hand controller will fully recharge from flat in 15 hours when connected to the charging unit. b) The Hand Controller or Hi-power Pack should be removed from the Bathmaster 2000, if the unit is not going to be used for some time. Do not leave the Hi-power pack on continuous charge for longer than 1 week without using it to power the bath seat under load. c) If the capacity of the controller has noticeably reduced, (i.e. only two or three complete lifts are possible from the controller when fully charged), the full capacity may be recovered by the following procedure: i) Use once or twice as normal with a person seated on the bath seat. ii) Operate repeatedly up and down, without a person on the bath seat, until the motor stops of its own accord, i.e. other than at the top or bottom of the seat travel. Do not hold down either button for more than a few seconds after the motor has stopped. iii) Recharge for 15 hours. iv) Repeat steps (i) to (iii) four times more. This procedure should restore the battery pack to near its full capacity.

Appendix 2 All hand controllers and power packs must be disposed of correctly, if in doubt contact your local refuse site. The main unit is constructed from aluminium and steel with various plastic mouldings.

9.0 Guarantee The Bathmaster 2000 main unit is guaranteed for two years and the hand controller is guaranteed for one year from the date of invoice from AbilityOne Homecraft Ltd. This covers the full cost of parts and labour. Should it be necessary to return the Bathmaster 2000, it is essential it is adequately packed to protect it in transit, preferably in its own purpose made original box, otherwise AbilityOne Homecraft Ltd cannot accept any responsibility for transit damage to the unit. Any attempt at repair or maintenance by persons other than AbilityOne Homecraft Ltd trained or approved personnel will void this guarantee.

Note: Where possible please retain the Bathmaster 2000 box and packaging material.
