Cleaning
During disassembly and assembly make sure mask is in its folded position.
Mask is reusable and easy to clean. One-way valve can be cleaned and reused for repeated manikin training only, but must be discarded after single patient use. Filter must be discarded after each use.
Disassembly 1. Hold the mask with one hand and clamp the filter housing between your thumb and two fingers of the other hand. Separate the two by pulling. 2. Discard filter.
Wash and scrub in warm soapy water. Rinse in clean water. Submerge for 10 min. in a 1:64 household bleach:water solution. Rinse again and allow to dry. Do not pasteurize, boil, gas or steam autoclave mask. NOTE: If mask becomes sticky, clean as recommended above.
Storage Store as illustrated. Assembly Snap the new filter firmly in place by pushing it upwards as illustrated. Caution: Firm pressure is required to assure that the filter is adequately seated in place and flush with the dome of the cuff. Note: The Laerdal Pocket Mask can be used without filter in place.

Use on adults and children
The Laerdal™ Pocket Mask™ is primarily designed for mouth-tomask ventilation of a non-breathing adult, child or infant. This device should only be used by persons who have received adequate training.
Steps 3-5 apply for adults and 3 Note: children only.
5
Use on infants
Use with oxygen
Remove your mouth. Allow patient to exhale.
On an infant follow procedures described for adults and children except reverse the mask so that its nose part is under the chin. Then apply mask over face. Open airway. Blow slowly until chest rises. Then, remove your mouth to allow infant to exhale.
Head strap (if included) - Strapping mask to face facilitates CPR and spontaneous inhalation of oxygen.
1
Other ventilation equipment, e.g. a bag-valve resuscitator or oxygen powered resuscitator, may be coupled to the 15 mm connection port (without the one-way valve) of the Laerdal Pocket Mask.
Check that the filter (if included) is snapped firmly into place, and push out dome.
Additional copies of Directions for Use are available on request.
2
Apply the rim of the mask first between the patient's lower lip and chin thus retracting the lower lip to keep the mouth open under the mask. Position end marked "nose" over the patient's nose.
Note: If patient vomits, remove mask and clear patient's airway. Clear mask assembly by shaking or sweeping out foreign material. Blow through valve to verify operation. Reapply mask to patient and continue ventilation.
4
Function ventilation
Extra oxygen - Connect oxygen hose to mask nipple. Select oxygen flow (see oxygen chart). Ventilate if necessary.
exhalation oxygen
The diagrams show the functional principles of the Laerdal Pocket Mask in different uses.
Attach one-way valve to mask port. Direct exhalation port way from "nose" end of mask.
Seal as illustrated. Open airway. Blow slowly until chest rises.
Caution: Federal (USA) law restricts this device (83 xx xx) to sale by, or on the order of a physician.
