NEVER ATTEMPT TO PUSH TO BED ALONG ITS LONG (FOLDED) SIDE AS THIS WILL MAKE THE BED UNSTABLE. •
•
Take care when pushing the folded bed on carpet as extra resistance can cause instability. Always push along narrow dimension. • Never lie or store the bed flat on it’s head or footboards as this may damage the ABS covers and other parts, unless it is laid on a suitable form of protective material for short periods only and has no other article or weight on top of the bed. Take care if self help pole fittings are attached as these protrude from behind headboard and may require extra protection when transporting or storing to avoid accidental injury. Always remove Self Help Pole, IV Pole or Side rails for storage.
•
For transportation, fully folded, the bed can easily be moved on its castors and does not need a separate transport frame. By use of vehicle ramp or stair climber and other equipment the bed can be safely moved with less risk of occupational injury than the straining and forces required to ‘pull apart’ and reassemble a traditional multi-sectional bed design, especially as these type of beds often suffer from their ‘tube insert’ attachments being distorted with wear and then requiring exceptional effort to detach or reattach. CLEANING The bed can be safely cleaned with all commonly used dilutions of normal hospital cleaning agents. • The bed is not intended for use with high pressure steam or jet-stream washing procedures. • Do not pour liquids on any part of the bed end panels etc. which could damage the electronics. • Cleaning the bed is simply accomplished by wiping over the surfaces with appropriate hygienic cloth moistened with normal hospital disinfectant.

FOLDING BED FOR STORAGE/TRANSPORT ENSURE BED IS FULLY LOWERED and the mattress platform flat. (This procedure is the reverse of the Assembly)
• Raise the bed’s mattress platform to its highest position and remove all bedding and accessories eg; Self Help Pole, Side Rails, IV Pole etc.
• Lock the castors at one end and align them parallel to the side of the bed (ie not under the outrigger), leaving other end brakes off.
• Remove the pins from the hinges on both the bed while the bed is still raised.
• Lower the bed to approximately 50mm from floor
• Carefully support the corner of the ABS headboard and gently lower it down onto the mattress platform.

Materials in the bed The bed is built for the most part from steel, or stainless steel, the surface of which has been finished with an electro-coated powder-coating. The head and foot end covers of the bed are ABS plastic.
All the surfaces are non-harmful on coming into contact with the skin.

Before using the bed after unfolding TEST ALL BED FUNCTIONS FOR CORRECT OPERATION:
• Unpack the handset and mains plug. Plug into the mains power socket (check correct voltage for country). Raise bed to its highest position.
With assembly completed, check: • the bed is stable, • the counter sunk screws and nuts (fixing
bolts) are VERY tight • headboards and footboards are fully vertical • Both pins are inserted correctly
ONLY USE THE ‘RAISE’ BUTTON CAUTION: Use of any other button on the handset at this stage may damage bed. At the headboard end first, tighten the fixing bolts whilst holding the headboard and ensuring it is in fully vertical position. Then repeat for other end. Secure the beams by replacing centre locking pins.
Take handset and test all operations of bed including kneebreak operation (if kneebreak is fitted.) If battery backup is fitted, the bed should be plugged into the mains power supply and left for 24 hours to fully charge the battery before further use.

ASSEMBLING AND UNFOLDING THE BED REQUIRES TWO PEOPLE Hint-assemble near mains power and use protective surface to ensure bed paintwork or floor is not damaged during assembly. UNPACKING THE BED (Packing method is dependent upon destination). Ensure the bed has been delivered with carton in correct upright position as marked on the outside of the carton. Some beds are delivered without cartons. Check no external damage is visible. UNFOLDING & ASSEMBLING Make sure there is enough clear floor space for the bed when it is unfolded and assembled. It is recommended that the bed is placed on a protected floor surface which will not damage the floor, paintwork or head and footboards. Unfolding the Bed • Start with the bed standing upright in its folded position, resting on all four castors. • Remove any packaging materials
Remove the transport locking pins at the hinge point on top of the bed, ensuring the bed does not unfold itself.
Open the beams to about 200mm at the bottom (remember to keep the brakes on). Drop the power cable down through the middle of the bed and take it out between the head end cover and the lower U tube end. Drop the handset and cable down through the middle of the bed and take it out between the beams. •
Pull out the unlocked end of the bed carefully so the bed is flat on the floor, holding both sides of the split centre section of the mattress platform on either side of the bed (two people) ease it to the floor. Take care not to trap fingers when unfolding.
• Lock the two castors at one end only .
Remove the transport latch, (if this is not done the hinge pins cannot be removed).
Ensure that the mains power cable and the handset are clear and safely stored.
16
Chassis: The chassis is constructed of welded steel and features four individually locking cas- • tors (3 brake (red) and 1 Directional- usually green)
which work on a safe low voltage of 24V. Battery backup (if fitted) allows for off -mains emergency operation (for a limited period of time).
Electrical adjustment system: The electric adjustment system of this bed comprises: • a handset for use by the patient or authorised persons. The handset consists of a robust, easy-care, washdown plastic casing with membrane keypad. • motors for controlling the backrest and thigh rest (kneebreak or kneegatch) adjustments and the height of the bed. • the central control box unit (and battery backup, if fitted) are located underneath the mattress platform at the head end of the bed. Here a transformer generates a safe low voltage of 24V which is non-harmful for both the patient and user. • connected to the central control unit via dust and moisture proof plugs are all the electric motors and the handset

HANDSET CONTROLS
ACCESSORIES & OPTIONS LiftCare’s beds are designed to be fitted with various accessories and options to assist with the care and comfort of patients. It is important that only LiftCare accessories are fitted to these beds as any incompatible accessories could cause damage and/or injury. Self Help Pole: The self help pole when fitted is intended to assist a patient moving within the confines of the bed. It is not to be used for any other purpose. The self help pole provided by LiftCare has a safe working load of 75 kg’s.
IV Pole: An adjustable IV Pole can be fitted to the self help pole brackets (see picture above). It is important to only use LiftCare IV Pole
Extension Kits: LiftCare’s beds can be extended to provide extra comfort for taller patients. The kit comes complete with instructions and requires tools for fitting. The sleeping space of the bed is extended by 175mm with the addition of this kit. (See page 20 for fitting instructions) Side Rails: LIFTCARE STRONGLY RECCOMENDS AGAINST THE USE OF SIDE RAILS AS THEY CAUSE DEATH AND INJURY. LiftCare is aware that, in some cases, side rails can be required for care but only authentic LiftCare side rails should be fitted to floor level beds as any incompatible side rails could cause damage and/or injury.
as any incompatible IV poles could cause damage and/ or injury. The safe working load of LiftCare’s IV pole is 7kg.
10
Note: The standard handset is similar to that shown but does not have ‘lockout’ function. Lockout handsets are an optional extra. The remote handset, connected to the control box, operates all electric functions. The functions and operation of the handset should be explained to the patient. The basic function of the buttons is to raise and lower the different functions/parts of the bed.
Fourth button operates the hi/lo mattress platform- press the raise or lower key to adjust up or down Fifth button operates the Trendelenburg and reverse-press the raise or lower key to adjust
