Disposal of the Unit
In designing the unit, we tried to avoid using composite materials wherever possible. This concept ensures that a significant part of the unit can be recycled once it has reached the end of its useful life. This also explains why we offer to take back the unit so it can be appropriately disposed of and recycled. We would also like to point out that the provisions of the electronic waste regulation must be duly observed at the time of disposal.

Safety Notices
The KLS Martin surgiCamdigital® camera system is a quality product designed and manufactured in accordance with recognized technical rules. The system left the manufacturer’s premises in perfectly safe condition! Our quality regulations comply fully with DIN ISO 9001 provisions. Please observe the following notices: •
Read the Instructions!
These Operating/Mounting/Service Instructions will help you to avoid safety hazards. Be sure to read them before using the system and the equipment connected to it. •
Follow the Instructions!
•
Keep the Instructions at hand! This enables you to check specific points and retrieve required information anytime.
•
Be sure also to heed any specific warnings affixed to the product!
•
After completion of installation or servicing tasks, the service technician is required to check all functions of both the camera system and the power supply system for proper working order and operational safety.
•
No liability will be accepted for damage caused by overvoltage.
•
Low voltage (< 100 V) may cause an image dropout.
•
Be sure that all connecting cables are properly connected to the system as specified in the attached connection diagram, and that all cables and connectors make safe and solid contact.
•
Be sure to disconnect the units from the supply before connecting any cables.
•
Do not twist cables or lay them in too narrow a radius. Specifically, avoid kinks!
•
To guarantee safety, the cable shields must be reliably and securely connected to the correct, specially marked metal grounding terminals and connector housings.
•
Be sure to operate the camera system only within the temperature range specified herein. For details, refer to “Technical Data”!
•
Do not try to take the unit apart! Only authorized service technicians may perform such work!
•
All of the system’s components must be protected from dropping, shocks and strong vibrations! Note that improper handling or storage can damage the camera and the control unit.
•
Never place the control unit on unstable trolleys, stands, supports or tables because it could fall off, getting damaged in the process or causing serious injuries.
•
Cleaning: Keep all units and connectors dry! Prior to cleaning, be sure to switch off all units of the light system!

surgiCamdigital® Operating/Mounting/Service Instructions •
Ventilation: Do not operate the control unit in an enclosed space where no proper ventilation is guaranteed (such as built-in cupboards or closed racks). Never stack units directly on top of each other!
•
Ingress of liquids or entry of objects: Never insert tools or other objects into the unit’s openings because you might touch dangerous voltage points (live components), thus causing fire or an electric shock! Also, do not let any liquid infiltrate into the device!
•
Maintenance: Do not attempt to service the camera beyond the recommended care and cleaning measures. Any repairs that become necessary must be performed by qualified specialists! This includes the following cases and incidents: - liquids or objects have got inside the camera; - the camera no longer functions in accordance with the Operating Instructions; - the unit was dropped or damaged; - the image quality deteriorates markedly.
•
Spare parts: If replacement parts are needed, make sure that the service technician uses only genuine spare parts as prescribed and supplied by the manufacturer. Note that the use of nonauthorized parts invalidates the warranty.
•
Safety check: Following completion of any service or repair work, make sure the service technician performs a safety check to ensure that the product is in safe working condition.
•
Transportation and storage: For transportation and storage periods up to 15 weeks, the following conditions apply: Temperature: -50°C to +50°C (-58°F to 122°F) Relative humidity: 10% to 75% Atmospheric pressure: 500 hPa to 1060 hPa Thereafter, the values specified for the following operating conditions apply.
•
Operating conditions: Temperature: 0°C to +45°C (32°F to 113°F) Relative humidity: 30% to 75% Atmospheric pressure: 700 hPa to 1060 hPa Storage: shock-free in closed or roofed rooms.
•
Regular safety checks: At least every 24 months, the following checks must be carried out on this unit by fully qualified and sufficiently trained and experienced persons capable of performing such work competently and independently: - Inspect the camera and its accessories for mechanical damage. - Check all safety-related labels for legibility. - Enter the results of these checks, together with the date, in a medical equipment log.
•
If the device is not functionally and/or operationally safe, it must either be repaired or the operator must be informed of the hazards associated with its use.

Introduction and Description
3.1
Intended Use
The surgiCamdigital® camera system is intended for recording the surgical procedures during an operation. Thus, the video images can be used for patient-specific documentation as well as for training purposes, e.g. in the form of live operation transmissions. The surgiCamdigital® camera system should not be used for surgical decision-making!
3.2
Design
1
2
The surgiCamdigital® camera system consists of the camera and an optional control unit. The camera can be installed either in the center of a light head (1) or on an arm of its own (2). The very high resolution in conjunction with a wide zoom and sensitivity range satisfies the highest demands and enables an excellent image quality. The horizontal resolution, with about 460 TV lines, is so high that the composite color video signal usually used in television engineering is no longer sufficient for transmission. Therefore, the camera features a Y/C (Svideo) output that makes the system compatible with conventional video systems as well as with S-video recorders and S-video monitors. Needless to say, the system also allows you to connect TFT flat screen monitors, medical monitors and commercially available monitors. The camera system offers electronic focus, zoom and iris control, thus giving the user excellent control of the video image by enabling him/her to focus precisely, change the image scale as appropriate (e.g. magnify image sections) and adjust the brightness and white balance optimally.
3
V 2.0
15
surgiCamdigital® Operating/Mounting/Service Instructions In the Basic and Advanced versions, the camera is controlled via a separate control unit (3) installed in the operating room and/or via the supplied software that can be run on any computer. (The software documentation is contained on the CD-ROM supplied with the product.) CAUTION!
Danger of damage! • •
16
The “separate arm” camera is NOT sterilizable! The lens of the “separate arm” camera is not suitable for wet disinfection!

Installation and Start-Up
5.1
Start-Up Step by Step
Please perform the following steps in the given sequence. Details are provided in the following subsections. •
Deenergize the system before connecting the units and making them ready for operation.
•
Insert the camera into the snap-action mechanism of the light head or separate arm (camera must lock audibly), then insert the elbow plug into the appropriate socket.
•
Connect the monitor or video recorder to a grounding outlet.
•
To enable control of the camera’s functions, connect the camera (“surgiCamdigital®”) socket of the control unit to the wall-mounting box, using the control cable supplied.
•
Turn on the camera (only “separate arm” camera has a separate ON/OFF switch; the camera installed in the light head is switched on together with the light).
•
Turn on the control unit and the monitor or video recorder.
•
After initial installation or in the case of unnatural colors, adjust color rendition following the instructions given in the monitor’s user manual.
