1. Lightweight single user Vaginal electrodes. The user is able to move around whilst receiving treatment. One user only but electrode needs cleaning between applications. 4. 2. Single user Rectal electrodes - Strong, durable electrodes which require cleaning between applications - rather heavy in weight, therefore require the user to sit or lie down for the duration of the treatment.

Placement
BODY
FACE
The cathode (black) is placed over the fleshy part of the muscle, where possible on the motor point. The anode (red) approximates the nerve trunk supplying the muscle group to be treated. The anode is always proximal and patients remember “red to the head”. The muscles of the hand are best treated through and through for general treatments. See body maps for suggested placements The muscles of the face are flat, superficial and easily influenced by electrical stimulation. The cathode is placed on the target muscle and the anode to the place for secondary attention. (see face map for most usual placements). NB : The anode is not placed over the facial nerve origin in front of the ear as this may encourage a mass movement.
PELVIC FLOOR
Vaginal and rectal electrodes are available and the manufacturers instructions should be followed at all times.
Make sure that all four sliders are in the zero position. Insert the Programme card of your choice and the unit will automatically turn on. If everything is set normally, Neuro Four will bleep once and the screen will show Nuromed and your chosen programme i.e “Face”, “Synkinesis” etc. This will not happen if the chip is inserted incorrectly. At this stage, if you wish to set the unit to programme 1,2 or 3 you should press the on / off button. Please note that the unit automatically starts in programme 1 If you wish to switch the unit off during your treatment, press and hold down the on/off button for two seconds. Do NOT remove the programme chip from the Neuro 4 whilst the unit is in operation. If you do, the unit will switch itself off and will not switch back on until the chip is re-inserted.
ADJUSTING TREATMENT LEVELS After switching the Neuro 4 on, you will have 20 seconds in which to adjust the levels before the programme starts. Gently adjust the slide controls to increase/decrease the sensation felt under the electrodes until a comfortable level is reached. Increasing the pulse level beyond the point where it is comfortable is not necessary. You can continue adjusting the pulse level during the programme, this may be necessary to achieve a more comfortable level after a few minutes of the programme have elapsed. The Neuro 4 will switch off automatically at the end of the treatment programme.

CARE & MAINTAINANCE
CONTRA-INDICATIONS AND PRECAUTIONS
Control Unit : • Wipe once a week with a just damp cloth.
1. 2.
•
Do not use cleaning sprays or alcohol-based cleaners. 3.
Battery : • Check periodically for any leaks. •
Remove battery completely if the unit is not going to be used for any extended period of time.
Leads : • Examine the leads before each treatment. •
Avoid stretching or twisting the leads.
•
Store the leads carefully after each use

It is inadvisable to use neuromuscular stimulation if a demand type pacemaker is fitted. It is not advisable to drive a car or operate potentially dangerous machinery whilst receiving treatment. The safety of neuromuscular stimulation during pregnancy has not been established. Pressure in the immediate vicinity of the richly innervated carotid sinus may cause fainting. It is not recommended therefore, that electrodes are placed on the front of the neck. The patient should only use the unit as prescribed. The microchip should only be used on the patient for whom it was prescribed. Skin irritation from the treatment itself does not occur, however, certain skin types do react to the tape and therefore patients should use a hypoallergenic brand. Different electrodes are available for the rare occasions when a skin reaction in the shape of the pad is seen. Do not immerse the unit in water.
Pads : Pad life can be considerable reduced by :

BODY
1. Carbon rubber electrodes require conductive gel. They are held in position by tape or limb straps.
For Best Results : •
Before each treatment cleanse the skin.
•
After each treatment, stick the pads on the shiny side of their storage card and store them somewhere cool and dry, such as the salad compartment of your refrigerator.
FACE
2. Self adhesive electrodes are easier to apply. They have a limited lifespan but when specific instructions are adhered to, they can be very cost effective 1. Small stainless steel electrodes to target tiny muscles. Held in position with tape - need conductive gel. These electrodes are also used for the small muscles of the hand, particularly dorsal interossei.
