Principle of Operation Your probe is suspended in the soaking container, preventing damage to the sensitive tip. Fumes are drawn into the unit away from the operator and into the filter. One of the containers is used for clean rinse water. This ensures that when the probe is removed from the unit, no high level disinfectant will drip or off-gas. Two blowers draw the fumes through the carbon filter where they are effectively neutralized and clean air is returned to the room. No ductwork or external venting is required.

Safety Precautions Disconnect the power before replacing the filter or when servicing the unit. Refer to the MSDS of the high level disinfectant that you are using for additional safety precautions.

Quick Trouble Shoot If your GUS®is not running, check the following: 1. Ensure that the unit is plugged into a live wall outlet. 2. Make sure the On/Off switch (located on left side) is on. 3. In the event that the unit is still not working, check the fuse. The fuse is located on the left side of the unit above the power cord. UNPLUG UNIT BEFORE UNSCREWING FUSE COVER. 4. Unscrew the fuse cover and remove the fuse. If the filament is damaged, replace it with a Type FSF 5 x 20 mm 1 amp 250VAC. 5. If the unit is still not working, please call PCI medical at 1-800-862-3394.

Setting up your G10VP Items Included Please check to ensure that your new GUS® G10VP Vapor Control System arrived with the following parts: •

Small packet containing: • Two hollow wall anchors and screws for wall mounting the unit. • ‘High-Level Disinfectant’ warning label. Note: it is an OSHA requirement that containers holding high-level disinfectants be clearly marked as such. • ‘Initial Rinse’ label • Indelible ink pen for marking cable. • Four tacks for mounting the Warning Card Two 12” soak/rinse containers with caps Spare cap for containers Two keys to safety door One sample bottle of GLUTE OUT glycine based neutralizer. One Philips screwdriver Warning Card – (This MUST be placed above the workstation – see #10 below)

Wall Mounting Installation Instructions (This unit can be placed on a countertop with a stand) 1.

You will need the following items before attempting to install this unit: • Measuring tape • Pencil or pen • Level

Location selection: • There must be a minimum of 4” of clearance on the left side of the unit to allow for access to the On/Off switch and fuse, and 4” of clearance beneath the unit.

Measure up from the floor approximately 54 ½”.

At that point, using a level, draw a line approximately 8” long. Mark two points on this line 8” apart.

5.

Using the enclosed Phillips screwdriver, press the tip of the wall anchor through these two points and turn clockwise until the anchor is flush with the wall.

Screw the two 1” Philips screws into the anchors. Back off the screws approximately 1/8” from the wall and place the unit over the screws and tighten the screws. (CAUTION: Do not over-tighten the screws.)

For masonry walls use a suitable lead or plastic shield and bolt. These shields are not supplied.

Remove the cardboard from the bottom of the unit and the tape on the fuse holder, which is on the left side of the soak station.

9.

Insert empty containers in unit.

10. You MUST tack the Warning Card to the wall in a visible location directly above or beside the unit. (Tacks are included). Vs: 011509

Using High Level Disinfectants with your GUS® NOTE: The tip of your ultrasound probe is extremely delicate. Failure to follow these steps may result in expensive probe damage. The connection between the strain relief and the probe is not watertight.

Step 1: Marking the Cable It is VERY IMPORTANT to mark the cable of EACH probe to be disinfected. This will allow you to easily place the probe into the container without it touching the bottom. 1. Place the probe gently into the empty container until it touches the bottom. 2. Insert the cable between the front and back grip clips by depressing the tab. 3. With the tab depressed, slide the cable up ½”. 4. Mark the cable with an indelible pen just above the front grip clip (pen included). See figure 1. 5. Remove probe by releasing the tab and continue the mark around cable.

Step 2: Placing Probe in Container

1. Hold the cable with your left hand thumbnail just above the red mark and with probe in right hand. See figure 2. 2. Gently place the probe into the container keeping red mark above the grip clip. See figure 3. 3. Depress blue tab and place cable between the grip clip with the mark just above the tab. Release tab and close door. See figure 4. Figure 2

Practice this two or three times before you put the disinfectant into the container. This is really easier than it sounds and will insure the safety of your probe.

Step 3: Filling the Containers 1. Plug in the unit and switch it on using the ON/OFF switch located on left side of unit. The red indicator will light when the unit is operating. 2. The G10VP has two containers: one for disinfectant and one for rinse water. 3. Some disinfectants require activation before use. Pour the disinfectant into the soaking container. DO NOT fill above the lower shoulder of the container. See figure 5.

4. Fill the remaining container with clean rinse water for the preliminary rinse. You MUST have one container for rinse water. This eliminates dripping disinfectant between the unit and the sink.

Step 4: Ready for Use 1. If your GUS®is located next to your ultrasound machine, you do not need to disconnect the cable. If you disconnect the cable from the ultrasound machine, the electrical connector may be placed in the top padded compartment of the unit. 2. Remove any sheath or condom and wipe the probe to remove the gel. 3. Place the probe into the soak container (See Step 2), and close the door. 4. Soaking time is dependent on your own infection control practice. Nationally this is between 10 to 20 minutes. (Cidex OPA is 12 minutes) 5. After soaking, push back on the blue tab and lift the probe up, shake it gently to remove the large drops of disinfectant and then place it directly into the rinse container while keeping your thumb on the red mark above the tab. 6. Rinse off the probe by GENTLY swirling it around in the rinse container. The probe can now be removed, wiped with a paper towel, and given a final rinse in the sink. 7. To prevent evaporation of disinfectant, always replace the screw caps on the containers after removing the probes. 8. Note: Always replace the screw caps on the containers before turning the station OFF. 9. Note: Your GUS®system can be left running as long as there are chemicals inside the containers.

Repair and Modification Do not modify or attempt to repair it; contact PCI medical to purchase replacement filters and parts. Before attempting to perform routine maintenance on the unit, thoroughly review and understand this manual for complete familiarization with the unit and its operation.

Filter Life GUS® has a patented filter that, in normal every day use will have a six-month life. For facilities that have infrequent use, please call us to set up an appropriate change schedule. PCI medical will automatically notify your facility 30 days prior to the replacement date and arrange for timely delivery of a replacement filter. PCI medical also offers a two-year filter program. This program guarantees the lowest possible price per filter and extends the warranty from one year to two years at no additional cost. Contact PCI Medical for further information, 1-800-862-3394.

Filter Replacement Put cap on the cup containing your disinfectant. Turn the main power OFF and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet. 1. Remove the foam pad from the top compartment. 2. Remove the top plate located in the top compartment by turning the captive screws counterclockwise. 3. Remove the old filter by inserting fingers into the finger holes and pulling up. Filter may be snug but should slide up with steady pressure. 4. Using a mild detergent on a soft cloth, wipe down the whole front of the machine. Also, wipe inside the machine behind the air intake panel. Dry all surfaces. 5. Replace with a new filter, making sure the airflow arrows are pointing to the rear of the machine. 6. Put the used filter into a plastic bag and dispose of it with other non-hazardous waste. This does not need to be red tagged. 7. Replace the top plate and tighten the captive screws by turning clockwise. Replace the foam pad and turn on the machine before replacing the disinfectant.

Cleaning Turn the main power OFF and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.

DAILY CLEANING: 1. Remove the rinse water cup, empty and wash both the cup and cap. Some facilities do this after each use. 2. Using a mild detergent solution on a soft cloth, wipe down the area around the cups. 3. Wipe off any drips around the disinfectant cup and cap and below the shelf. 4. Do not spray cleaning liquids on the intake area of the machine as this will damage the filter. 5. After drying the areas, replace the rinse water and disinfectant cups. Refer to “Filter Replacement” section above for additional cleaning steps when changing the filter.

Disposing of Used High Level Disinfectants In some states and municipalities, it is illegal to dispose of used disinfectants without first deactivating them. Deactivation also protects the user from exposure to splashes and spills. PCI Medical manufactures GLUTE-OUT, a glycine-based neutralizer (part # NG-QT) which comes in a convenient single-use bottle. Please see insert with the sample for more information. With the unit running, open the bottle of neutralizer and slowly pour the contents into the container of high-level disinfectant. After five minutes the disinfectant is deactivated and it is then safe to dispose of down the sink/drain with the cold water running. NOTE: Be sure to put the screw cap on the container before transporting it to the sink/drain for disposal. IMPORTANT: Thoroughly clean and rinse out the container. With the unit turned on, put the clean soaking container back into place and refill it with fresh high-level disinfectant.

Main Wiring Diagram A main wiring diagram is available upon request. PCI medical does not disclose detailed circuit diagrams. Spare parts and replacements are available upon request.

Limited Warranty Please complete and return the attached warranty card to PCI medical inc. PCI medical inc. warrants the GUS® Vapor Control System to be free of defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, for a period of one year from the date of delivery. This warranty does not include filters, acrylic, or disposal pump unless it can be determined that failure is due to defects in material or workmanship. The warranty covers the soak/rinse tubes and cups for up to one month. If the system is not working correctly or is defective, contact PCI medical inc., and we will repair or replace the unit at our option during the warranty period. PCI medical inc. assumes no liability for consequential damages of any kind as a result of the use or misuse of the system by the purchaser, the purchaser’s employees, or any others. This warranty is expressly in lieu of all other warranties, guarantees, obligations or other liabilities expressed or implied. What is not covered by this warranty: Conditions and damages resulting from any of the following: • Improper installation, delivery within the facility, or maintenance. • Any repair, modification, alteration or adjustment not authorized by the manufacturer. • Misuse, abuse, accidents or unreasonable use. • Incorrect electric current, voltage or supply. • Failure to follow proper procedures for use outlined in this manual. • Consequential or incidental damages sustained by any person as a result of any breach of this warranty. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of consequential or incidental damages, so the above exclusion may not apply.
