Product Certificate Congratulations with your new bed Invacare®OctaveTM from Invacare® EC-Høng A/S. Your new bed is -marked in accordance with directive 93/42/EØF of 27th of May 2003 concerning medical devices. Furthermore, Invacare®OctaveTM is a class 1 product in accordance with directive no. 409 of 27th of May 2003 concerning medical devices. Invacare®OctaveTM has been developed and constructed with consideration for the user and others handling or assisting at the bed. Invacare®OctaveTM has been developed in accordance with the European Standard EN 1970. Invacare®OctaveTM has throughout the entire production process been supervised and quality controlled, and the finished bed has been inspected by our finished goods control. Identification label and QA-mark are located on the bed confirming that the finished goods control has approved the bed. Please read the entire user’s manual before using the bed. User part Congratulations on your choice of Invacare®EC-Høng’s Octave nursing bed.

This bed has been developed for users over 12 years of age requiring care in a nursing home or at home. The bed combines excellent stability and ergonomic design. A specially designed 4-sectioned mattress support provides the user with excellent comfort and provides optimal working conditions for the carer.
In order to optimise the patient’s comfort Invacare® EC-Høng A/S recommends using a 15-cm mattress. (see order numbers sec. 8).

There is a risk of entrapment whilst operating the bed.

2. Operation of Invacare®Octave
Always leave the bed in the lowest position. Otherwise there is a risk of entrapment due to accidental lowering of the mattress support. A person can be seriously injured under the bed during height adjustment.
Operating castors with central braking system Braking the bed: If the brake is in neutral, step on the red pedal. Releasing the brake: Step on the green pedal, until the brake is in the neutral position.
The bed’s castors must be locked whilst nursing a patient in bed or when using any positioning function. The bed must be locked when the patient moving in and out of the bed. The bed must not be transported when occupied.
The castors might under special conditions be difficult to manouvre due to the floor covering being untreated or in poor condition. In matters of doubt, Invacare recommends the placement of a suitable type of protection between the castors and the floor.
Operation of the BRITT IV wooden siderail UP: Pull up the top wooden bar, until the locking pin locks with an audible click. DOWN: Lift the top wooden bar and press the two locking pins together. Lower the siderail.

There is a risk of entrapment on assembly and operation of the siderails.
Britt IV wooden siderails is comform to European standards. For those with a small bodysize, there will however be a risk of entrapment between the lower wooden bar and the frame of the bed..

Adjusting the height of the lifting pole Loosen the cord as shown in fig. A. The lifting handle can now be adjusted to the desired height. Press the cord together as shown in fig. B and check that the cord is locked in the cord lock by pulling the handle.

Emergency release of the mattress support parts

An emergency release of the mattress support is necessary in the case of e.g. a power or motor failure. An emergency release of the height adjustment is NOT possible! •
Remove the plug from the mains before emergency release of the mattress support.
•
In an emergency case the mattress sections are released by pulling out the cotter pin from the motor in question. A minimum of 2 people are required to release a mattress section. Both people should hold the mattress section in locked position. One person pulls out the cotter pin. Both slowly lower the mattress section until it is completely down.

Technical information Invacare®EC-Høng A/S is certified according to DS/EN ISO 9001/ISO 13485 which ensures that our customers are always supplied with Invacare®EC-Høng A/S products of uniform quality. Throughout the entire production process our materials/products are quality controlled by the operators. Furthermore there is a final test when the product is fully assembled. The operator carries out the final test, which comprises a check of all moveable parts, motors/gas springs and castors, issues a QA number on the product thereby confirming its quality.

If the product does not correspond to the quality demands of Invacare®EC-Høng A/S, it will be discarded. If, contrary to our expectations, a problem should arise in connection with the delivered product, please contact your Invacare®supplier.
3. Information Approvals • Invacare®Octave is • •
-marked in accordance with Directive 93/42/EEC of 27 February 2002 concerning
medical devices. Invacare®Octave has undergone a risk analysis according to NF EN 14971. Invacare®Octave is approved to carry a max. load of: 385 kg incl. equipment.
Max. patient weight: 350 kg (Only if the equipment - bedend. siderail, support handle, lifting pole and mattress - weight max. 35 kg). Control units and motors are protected according to IP 66. If an electronic part has IP 66 protection, the lock cam of the control unit must be used, otherwise Invacare®EC-Høng A/S provides no guarantee for the protection.
4. General Information
Invacare®EC-Høng A/S accepts no liability for any use, change or assembly of the product other than as stated in this User’s Manual. If the functions of the bed change, please send the bed immediately for a check-up according to the maintenance chart, chapter 10. The Invacare®Octave must be stored in a room with a humidity equivalent to normal indoor conditions. The bed must be stored in a frost-free environment.

5. Receiving Invacare®Octave
Due to condensation, may the bed may not be used until it has gained room temperature.
Check whether the bed shows any signs of damage. If the bed is damaged, see terms of delivery.
The bed - mattress support and base frame - will be delivered assembled on a trolley.

By ordering a standard bed following parts will be delivered.

Mounting the Invacare®Octave. Receiving the bed on the trolley: (2 persons required) 1.
Apply all 4 braked castors on the trolley.

Apply all 4 braked castors on the bed.
3.
Remove the delivered equipment from the trolley.
4.
Lower the bed and the trolley, into horizontal position -standing on the bed castors.
5.
Dismount the trolley from the bed.
When lowering the bed into horizontal position 2 persons are required.
Connect Invacare®Octave to the mains. For ergonomic working position: Raise the bed (hi/low) to approx. 60 cm above floor level. Ref. chapter 2 “Operation of the Invacare®Octave”. 1. Assembling the fittings. a) Push bed end through the pipes on the top frame. (Visible insertpipe is about 4.5 cm). b) Tighten the bed end with enclosed screws. 2. Mounting the wooden bed end a)
Slide the wooden bed end into the U-profile.
Mounting wooden adapters and wooden siderail (accessories). 1. Mounting wooden trim. a) Remove the exposure on the bed end. b) Mount the Wooden trim with the enclosed mounting screws. c) Make sure that all 4 Wooden trims have been correctly mounted/tightened.

Raise the bed about one third. Remove the protective tape from the locking pins at the ends of the siderail. Mount one end at a time. Lift the lower wooden bar and guide the metal bow to the bed end rail (A). Press the locking pin of the siderail with a finger (B). Guide the siderail to the upper position. There will be an audible click when it's locks. Mount the end stop brackets (C). B

3. Mounting support handle (accessories) a) Mount the support handles on the tube of either the back- or leg sections. Note! Do not mount the support handle on the seat- /thigh section. b) Tighten the thumbscrews.
Note! The distance between 2 support handle or support handle and bed end must be more than 25 cm.
Placing support handles in wrong positions can cause serious damage or suffocation, if body parts are trapped between support handles or between support handle and bed end.

4. Mounting the lifting pole (accessories). a) Push the lifting pole bottom piece in the fitting under the backrest.
b) Mount the enclosed screws and nuts and tighten them.
5. Mounting the mattress support extension (10 cm). •
It is not possible to use the wooden siderail in combination with mattress support extension. Therefore dismount the wooden side rails first.
The mattress support extension can be mounted in either the head- or foot end. a) Loosen screws from the bed end. b) Remove the bed end. c) Remove the ferrules in the tube ends for the mattress support and mount the extension. d) Tighten up with the enclosed screws. e) Mount the bed end in the outer position (4 screws per fitting). (Visible insertpipe is about 14.5 cm).

6. Disassembly parts Dismounting mattress support - base The mattress support can be disassembled from the base. To disassemble the mattress support from the base relevant ools and 2 persons. a) Dismount all accessories incl. bed end. b) Lower the bed into lowest position. c) Dismount the cable from the motor for height from the control unit.

d) Raise the back section to the highest position. e) Loosen and remove the screws/nuts between mattress support and shear arms. f) Lift the mattress support free from the guideway. g) Lower the back section to the lowest position. h) Remove the power plug from the bed and lift the mattress support off the shear arm.

Raise the bed about one third. Place the siderail in the heighest position. Dismount the end stop brackets. (4 pcs.). Lower the siderail. (see "Operation of the BRITT IV wooden siderail" on page 6). Lower the siderail, until the is free of the bed end rail.

7. Wiring
Note! Mains cable is placed below the frame of the base. The bed is not intended for use together with MEDICAL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. It can be dangerous to roll over the mains cable. Do not bring mains cable into contact with moving parts.
Disconnect the plug from the mains supply before moving the bed. The cables must be mounted in such a way that they are kept clear of the floor and do not block the castors.

9. Service and maintenance Service and maintenance of the Invacare®Octave must only be performed by personnel who have received the necessary instruction or training. With normal daily use, service must be carried out according to the service schedule after 2 years use and thereafter every second year. When moving the bed, service must be carried out according to the service schedule. Note! The top frame must be supported during service inspections to prevent accidental lowering.
For beds with electrical equipment a safety test comprising control of the motors’ performance and mechanical state is recommended once a year. Motors, hand control and control unit These parts are not serviceable, they must be re-placed

13. Cleaning The Invacare®Octave cannot withstand cleaning in washing machines nor flushing with a water jet. Use ordinary household detergents. Dry the bed after cleaning. Never use acids, alkalines or solvents. Please make sure the power plug is removed from the socket. Important details for cleaning hand control, control unit and motors IP 66: Always clean with water and brush. Water may be pressurised, but never use high-pressure cleaning or steam cleaning directly on the units.

16. Disposal This product has been supplied from an environmentally aware manufacturer that complies with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2002/96/CE. This product may contain substances that could be harmful to the environment if disposed of in places (landfills) that are not appropriate according to legislation. The ‘crossed out wheelie bin’ symbol is placed on this product to encourage you to recycle wherever possible. Please be environmentally responsible and recycle this product through your recycling facility at its end of life.
