The CADD®-Solis ambulatory infusion system is designed to promote patient care and safety for a variety of adult and pediatric patients and clinical care areas, including, but not limited to, postoperative, trauma, critical care, oncology, and labor and delivery. This guide concerns only the CADD®Solis ambulatory infusion pump. This pump can be programmed with a pump protocol configuration, consisting of a therapy, qualifier, and drug. The pump can deliver medication at a constant rate and/ or with a bolus dose. This guide is intended for use by the facility’s CADD®-Solis system administrator or authorized facility staff only, do not permit unauthorized clinicians or patients to have access to it. The pump has three security levels designed to limit overall patient and clinician access to certain pump features. Only disclose the pump’s security codes to those who are authorized. Patient and unauthorized clinician access to the pump key should also be restricted. The issue date of this Administrator Settings Guide is included on the back cover. In the event one year has elapsed between the issue date and product use, the clinician should contact Smiths Medical to see if an updated revision of this guide is available.

Overview: Administrator Settings The administrator settings contain pump configurations that are set up by an administrator. Protocol libraries, consisting of therapies, qualifiers, and drugs are generally created using the CADD®Solis Medication Safety Software. The administrator settings allow you to make changes to an individual protocol for single use. NOTE: When editing the administrator settings, it is important to note that the edits being made only affect the currently displayed protocol. NOTE: The administrator settings screens will revert to the home screen when there is a four minute delay between button presses. Make sure you are still in the administrator settings menu after any delays. NOTE: Many of the following instructions include steps to unlock the keypad. This step will only be necessary if the keypad is not already unlocked.

Delivery Settings
Delivery Settings The delivery settings are attributes of a protocol that are directly related to the drug being infused. Changes to any of these have a direct impact on the amount of drug being delivered to the patient. The programming units (mg, mcg, mL) and concentration (if applicable) used for each configuration will be dependent on the current protocol. The programming units and concentration of a protocol cannot be changed. A new protocol must be selected (through the tasks menu) in order to change programming units. Any changes made in the delivery settings menu affect only the protocol that is currently displayed. To access the Delivery Settings, press U or D to choose Delivery in the administrator settings menu and press S. NOTE: Editing the delivery settings causes the color of the protocol on the screen to change to black. This is to alert clinicians that a manual change has been made to the protocol that is currently active in the pump. NOTE: Clicking “Save,” even if you did not adjust any of the limits, causes the color of the protocol on the screen to change to black. To exit an editing screen, always press “Don’t Save” if you are not making any changes.
Maximum and Minimum Limits, and Current Value Within several of the delivery settings feature screens, you are given the option to set hard and soft maximum and minimum limits, as well as the current value. Below is a definition of these settings: Hard Maximum - The maximum value for the parameter being edited. It will not be possible for the clinician to program the setting above the hard maximum value within the current protocol. Soft Maximum - The soft maximum value should be the highest common value for the setting you are programming. It may be programmed above this value, though extra confirmation will be required.
Current Value - Displays the current value for the setting in the protocol. Changing this value changes the currently programmed value in the patient specific parameters. Soft Minimum - The soft minimum value should be the lowest common value for the setting you are programming. It may be programmed below this value, though extra confirmation will be required. Hard Minimum - The minimum value that the setting being edited should ever be programmed to. It is not possible for the clinician to program the setting below the hard minimum value within the current protocol. If a clinician programs one of these settings above a soft maximum or below a soft minimum, there is a screen requiring the clinician to confirm the soft limit override. NOTE: The hard and soft minimum values may be left at zero, or the lowest available value if you are not trying to prevent the clinician from choosing too low of a value for the parameter.
Continuous Rate The continuous rate option allows you to configure the maximum and minimum program limits, as well as change the current value for the continuous rate. If the maximum program limit is not available with a given concentration, the feature will not scroll. If a current programmed value for the continuous rate is outside a newly programmed maximum limit, the current value for the continuous rate will be set to zero. To program the continuous rate limits and current value: 1. In the delivery settings menu, press U or D to choose Continuous Rate and press S. 2. To adjust the hard max, press U or D until you reach the hard max option, press S.

Reservoir Reset Volume Each time a clinician attaches a new reservoir to the pump, the clinician will select the reservoir volume parameter in the protocol and reset the value to display the volume that is in the new reservoir. In the administrator settings, you may choose a standard reservoir volume, which allows the clinician to quickly reset the reservoir volume to that value. The clinician can adjust the reservoir 8
volume to another amount, if necessary. To program the reservoir reset volume:
The maximum delivery rate feature allows you to program the maximum speed at which the pump will deliver a PCA dose or clinician bolus. The maximum rate is the sum of the continuous rate and either the PCA dose or clinician bolus rate. For example, if the maximum delivery rate is programmed to 60 mL/hr, and the continuous rate is programmed to 15 mL/hr, a PCA dose or clinician bolus would be delivered at 45 mL/hr. The maximum rate is programmable from 40 to 175 mL/ hr in increments of 1 mL/hr. The default value is 175 mL/hr. To set the maximum delivery rate: 1. In the Delivery Settings menu, press U or D to choose Max Delivery Rate and press S. 2. Alarm Settings
Alarm Settings In the protocol you are manually editing, you may adjust various alarm settings through the “Alarm” option in the administrator settings. Some of the settings you may adjust include whether or not an alarm is active, the type of alarm that will sound, and at what point the alarm will sound. There are 4 types of alarms that the pump can sound: High Priority – If the pump is running, it will always stop running when a high priority alarm is activated. The alarm is accompanied by a red screen, and it will persist until acknowledged by the press of a button on the pump or until the condition that triggered the alarm is gone (e.g. high pressure going down). The alarm can be silenced with a button press and will sound again after 2 minutes. Medium Priority – If the pump is running, a medium priority alarm will not stop the pump. The alarm is accompanied by an amber screen, and it will persist until acknowledged by the press of a button on the pump or until the condition that triggered the alarm is gone (e.g. a remote dose cord is reattached while the pump is running). The alarm can be silenced with a button press and will sound again after 2 minutes. Low Priority – If the pump is running, a low priority alarm will not stop the pump. The alarm is accompanied by a cyan (blue-green) screen, and it will persist for 5 seconds, unless it is acknowledged by the press of a button or the condition that triggered the alarm is gone before the 5 seconds have passed. Informational Priority – If the pump is running, an informational priority alarm will not stop the pump. This alarm appears on the status bar, it does not display a new alarm screen. It will persist for 5 seconds and is generally a silent alarm. To access the alarm settings, press U or D to choose Alarms in the administrator settings menu and press S.
10
NOTE: Editing some of the alarm settings will cause the color of the protocol on the screen to change to black. This is to alert the clinician that a manual change has been made to the protocol currently active in the pump. NOTE: Clicking “Save,” even if you did not adjust any of the settings, will cause the color of the protocol on the screen to change to black. To exit an editing screen, always press “Don’t Save” if you are not making any changes.

The pump contains a sensor that determines if there is an upstream occlusion. This feature can be set to on or off. If this sensor is set to on, and an upstream occlusion is detected, an alarm will sound, delivery will stop, and the display will show that there is an upstream occlusion. An upstream occlusion will only be detected with administration sets and bags. NOTE: The pump will not test for an upstream occlusion when using a medication cassette reservoir, even if the upstream occlusion sensor is set to “on.” WARNING: When the upstream occlusion sensor is turned off, the pump will not detect occlusions upstream (between pump and fluid container). Periodic inspection of the fluid path for kinks, a closed clamp, or other upstream obstructions is recommended. Occlusions may result in under or non-delivery of medications. If undetected, the occlusions could lead to serious patient injury or death. 1. In the alarm settings menu, press U or D to choose Upstream Sensor On/Off and press S. 2. Press U or D to choose either off or on and select Save (protocol color will change) or Don’t Save to exit without saving (protocol color will not change). 12

Set Time and Date
Set Time and Date The set time and date screen allows you to edit the time and date, as well as to choose a date format. The date format options are Month/Day/Year or Day/Month/Year. The time option should reflect the current time. The pump shows the time of day in 24-hour time according to the pump’s internal clock. The clock is powered by a separate, internal battery which retains the time even when the 4 AA batteries are removed. NOTE: This battery is rechargeable and automatically recharges when the pump is powered on. It may not keep the time and date, after the pump has been powered off for long periods of time, until you turn the pump on and allow the battery to recharge. The time is used to record the time of events in the delivery and event logs, as well as in other reports. The date option should reflect the current date. This feature is used to record the date of events in the delivery and event logs, in other reports, and to determine when the PM reminder alarms will occur. Updating the time and date to daylight savings time. The pump’s time and date will not automatically update during daylight savings. If you live in a geographical area that follows daylight savings time, you will need to manually update the time and date. You may choose to change the time while the pump is currently being used by a patient, or to wait until the patient is finished with therapy. NOTE: If you update the pump’s time while it is being used on a patient, the timestamps in the event and delivery logs will not be updated to reflect daylight savings prior to the change. All events will record the reported time from when the event actually occurred. For your reference, the event log will record the time it was changed.
