Precautions Caution: Only competent individuals trained in the repair of this type of equipment should attempt to service it as detailed in this manual. Caution: Always perform the checkout procedure after performing any type of repair and before placing the scale back in service.
Specifications Functional range 300gm to 8 kg Accuracy +/- 10gm Resolution 10gm (factory setting) or 5gm user selectable on non-EU scales The resolution of scales distributed in the EU region vary depending on the scale revision: • • •
Scales with revision 2.72 only have a resolution option of 10 g. Scales with revision 2.86 have a resolution of 5 g up to 5000 g and 10 g up to 8000 g. The resolution on EU scales with software 2.86 and above is not user selectable.
Checkout Procedures The scale can be calibrated using a Class F calibration weight between 1 kilogram and 8 kilograms (accuracy of 0.01%). It is recommended to perform weight testing of the scale with a 5 kilogram (5000 gram) certified test weight. This weight is available as Ohmeda part number 6600-0209-800.
Mechanical check 1.
Examine the scale connector cord for damage. Examine the LEMO connector to make sure it is tightly assembled. Check for bent pins. If any of the parts are damaged replace them.
2.
2. Examine the scale for obvious signs of damage.
3.
3. Ensure there is no mechanical binding between the scale and unit.
Center weight check For best test accuracy enter the service screen and set the scale resolution to 5 grams, then shut off the unit and power it back up to enter normal weighing mode. Place a known weight in the center of the mattress and perform a weigh cycle. The displayed weight should be the known weight +/- 10 grams.

Service Instruction
Off center weight check For best test accuracy enter the service screen and set the scale resolution to 5 grams, then shut off the unit and power it back up to enter normal weighing mode. Place a known test weight 10 cm (4”) from the center of the mattress in 4 positions 90 degrees from each other (for example- toward each corner of the mattress) and check the reading at each position. Resulting weight readings should be within +/- 10 grams of previously obtained center weight reading. Note:
Important: If the scale fails the weight checks, calibrate it according the procedure in section 3 and then perform the weight checks again.
Maintenance and Calibration Maintenance Schedule Annual: Perform checkout procedures in section 2. If the scales fail the weight check, perform the calibration procedure below.
Service Tools Note:
The scale can be calibrated using a Class F calibration weight between 1 kilogram and 8 kilograms (accuracy of 0.01%).
A 5 kilogram (5000 gram) certified test weight is available from Ohmeda Medical (part number 6600-0209-800).
Scale Calibration Note:
For EU Member States, this scale has been designed and manufactured in accordance with the non-automatic weighing instruments (NAWI) directive, 2009/23/EC. In order to assure complete compliance to the Directive, have the unit calibrated by an accredited local test authority. If you are unable to identify a test authority, please contact your GE representative or distributor for assistance.
Periodic re-verification (calibration) of the scale must be performed in accordance of the National Regulations Governing Legal Metrology. The required re-verification frequency will vary by country. Contact your local weights and measures authority for more information. On Giraffe Incubators and Omnibeds:

6.
Remove the weight and push the knob at the screen prompt “REMOVE THE WEIGHT AND PUSH KNOB”. The screen will prompt “INITIALIZING...” for a few seconds.
7.
Replace the weight and push the knob at the screen prompt “PLACE TEST WEIGHT AND PUSH KNOB”. The screen will prompt “MEASURING ...” for a few seconds
8.
When the screen prompts “ENTER TEST WEIGHT” Dial in the test weight to the nearest gram. Press the knob to enter. The screen will prompt “CALCULATING.” for a few seconds.
9.
When the screen prompts: SAVE AND EXIT EXIT ONLY RESTORE DEFAULT Select and enter “SAVE AND EXIT”.
10. Power cycle the unit to exit service mode and enter operation mode. 11. Verify the accuracy of the scale by performing a weighing cycle using the test weight. The measured value should be the test weight +/- 10 grams. On Giraffe and Panda Warmers 1.
Clear all objects from the bed and ensure only the mattress and Plexiglas remain on the scale.
2.
Ensure the bed is level.
3.
Enter service menu turn on the unit by holding the Help and Alarm Silence keys until you hear two tones (approximately 5 seconds) and release.
4.
On the Main Menu select “Scale Calibration”, then select “Manual Calibration”.
5.
Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to set the gram value of the known test weight and press the enter key.
6.
When prompted, clear all objects from the bed.
7.
Press the Start Key, “Scale Obtaining Tare” will be displayed.
8.
When “Apply Test Weight” is displayed, place the weight on the center of the bed and press the OK key.
9.
If calibration is successful “Calibration Successful” is displayed. If not press the Recal key and repeat the procedure.
10. Press the Save key to save the new Calibration Constants or the Abort key to retain the original setting. 11. Power cycle the unit to exit service mode and enter operation mode. 12. Verify the accuracy of the scale by performing a weighing cycle using the test weight. The measured value should be the test weight +/- 10 grams.

Troubleshooting Error Codes Error Code
Definition
Action
Scale Failure “1”
Microcomputer random access memory failed test on power up.
Replace the Control PCA
Scale Failure “2”
Microcomputer program memory failed checksum test on power up.
Replace the Control PCA
Scale Failure “3”
No output data from A/D converter.
Replace the Control PCA
Scale Failure “4”
Output signal from A/D converter is over range.
Remove all items from platform and remove the top and circuit board cover to access J2 and J3 . Proceed to service mode and check the value of SC. Unplug one load cell at either J2 or J3 and see if the SC value returns to normal. If its suspected that a load cell is faulty, swap their connectors on the control board to verify that the problem follows the load cell. IF unplugging or swapping the load cells doesn’t fix the issue, replace the control board.
Scale Failure “5”
EEPROM memory has failed.
Replace the Control PCA
Scale Failure “6”
Field Calibration data has been lost.
Perform scale calibration. If problem persists replace the Control PCA.
Scale Failure “1”
Microcomputer random access memory failed test on power up.
Replace the Control PCA

Internal mechanical interference. Defective load cell. Defective printed circuit board.
Remove scale top frame and check for interference between top frame, load cells and wiring. Check output of scale using service screen. Check “SR” (Scale counts Raw) display. Number displayed should not fluctuate by more than 4 counts when at rest. If excessive fluctuation is noted disconnect load cells one at a time to isolate; replace individual defective load cell. Replace printed circuit board.

Panda® iRes and Giraffe® Warmers Service Manual M1128921. Giraffe® Incubator Service Manual 6600-0847-801 (USA) 6600-0847-802 (INTL). Giraffe® OmniBed Service Manual 6600-0834-801 (USA) 6600-0834-802 (INTL).
SR and SC display Two displays of internal scale operation are provided in the service menu. These are labeled “SR” and “SC”. SR (Scale counts raw): On EU scales, the SR value is a non-resettable count of how many times the scale has been calibrated. The value of SR increments by one whenever the scale is calibrated. In non-EU scales, the SR (Scale Raw counts) represents the actual digital converted weight number received from scale’s A/D converter without any further processing. The value of SR displayed without a weight, Plexiglas, and mattress will vary greatly, due to the tolerance of the transducers and electronics. With a stable weight on the bed, the SR value should not fluctuate more than a few counts. SC (Scale counts corrected): Scale counts Calibrated. This is the weight value after processing from the scale’s internal microcomputer. It can be thought of as the “software” value representing the weight applied to the scale. On a properly calibrated scale, each count of this value represents exactly 1 gram of weight.
