T8-3 Transducer Care WARNINGS  Be sure to use the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever necessary.  DO NOT skip any steps or abbreviate the cleaning process in any way. Cautions  DO NOT allow bodily fluids to dry on the transducer. Always clean the transducer immediately after use.  DO NOT bend the endoscopic shaft smaller than a 20 cm (8 inch) curve.  DO NOT drop the transducer. If it is dropped, perform an electrical safety test and temperature calibration prior to use.  DO NOT use unapproved cleaning agents because they can damage the transducer and void the warranty. For more information about approved cleaners and disinfectants, see www.sonosite.com/support/cleaners-disinfectants.   DO NOT spray or immerse the controller, the cable, or the connector with any fluid. Be careful to prevent moisture from getting on the connector.   DO NOT soak the transducer longer than recommended by the chemical manufacturer. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for concentration, temperature, and duration.   Clean and disinfect transducer prior to use if it is not housed in a protective covering.  Refer to the following diagram when caring for your transducer Cannot be submerged  Connector  Cable  Controller  Can be submerged 90 cm  Endoscopic shaft Scan head  Preventing damage  Pre-cleaning  STEP 1 ALWAYS  STEP 2 DO NOT allow biological material to dry on the  use a bite guard. Remove any dentures before placing the bite guard in the patient’s mouth.  Cleaning STEP 3 Rinse the  endoscopic shaft and 1 minute scan head with clean, room temperature running water for a minimum of 1 minute. DO NOT rinse the cable or controller.  STEP 4 Soak up to  90 cm of the shaft and scan head in an approved cleaner. Make sure the controller cannot fall into the solution. CHECK the expiration date of the cleaner, and follow ALL chemical manufacturer’s instructions for soak time and temperature.  transducer. Immediately after use: a Use a clean cloth moistened with water to wipe the cable and controller. DO NOT wipe the connector. b Use a second clean cloth moistened with water to wipe the shaft and scan head. INSPECT the transducer for any sign of damage. DO NOT use the transducer if any damage is found.  STEP 5 During the soak: a Wipe cable and controller with a wipe approved for use on the cable and controller. DO NOT wipe the connector. CHECK the expiration date of the wipe. b Wipe shaft and scan head using a clean, soft cloth or sponge moistened with cleaner.  STEP 6 Rinse the  shaft and scan head with 3 minutes room- temperature running water for a minimum of 3 minutes. DO NOT rinse the cable or controller. INSPECT for any remaining biological material. Repeat cleaning if any is found.  STEP 7 Dry the  transducer with a clean, non-linting towel. INSPECT for any sign of damage. DO NOT use the transducer if any damage is found.
