Preface
PREFACE Read and understand this manual before attempting to service or repair the equipment. This manual is intended for use by ArjoHuntleigh approved service technicians. The manual may be provided to a customer in response to customer requirements, but in no event will ArjoHuntleigh be responsible for any service or repair performed by customers.

General Warnings Disconnect the bed from the mains supply before starting any maintenance activity. The bed will still operate on battery power unless the function is locked on the Attendant Control panel (ACP). Before starting any service or maintenance procedures, ensure that the equipment has been adequately decontaminated. Electrical equipment can be hazardous if misused. Obey all safety instructions. Do not remove protective covers or open electrical enclosures while Do not use electrically powered beds in the presence of flammable gases, such as anesthetic agents. The bed and its sub-assemblies are very heavy and appropriate precautions must be taken to avoid injury when moving or lifting them.

2 Product Description The Citadel Plus Bariatric Care System is an electrically operated acute care medical bed with an integrated patient weighing system. 2.4 Product Overview
Figure 1: Citadel Plus Bariatric Care System All bed power-operated functions are operated by push button controls. Each function has separate up and down push buttons. The user control panels are integrated into the head end side rails, with the patient’s controls on the inside and the nurse’s controls on the outside. The patient’s controls adjust backrest angle and leg elevation; the nurse’s controls additionally adjust backrest angle, leg elevation and bed height. The bed has attendant control panels (ACP) integrated into the foot end side rails, from which the power operated functions can be disabled; operation of the bed by the patient is thus at the discretion of the caregiver. The ACP contains pushbutton controls for all bed movements including tilt and CPR. The controls and LED display for the weighing and VariZone patient egress systems are located on the foot end side rails, next to the ACP. The VariZone system uses data from the weighing system to determine the degree of patient movement and sounds an alarm to alert nursing staff. An infra red beam around the perimeter of the bed base provides an anti-entrapment feature. If the beam is interrupted, for example by a patient’s limb or caregiver’s foot, downward motion of the mattress platform is prevented until the obstruction is removed. The bed has an optional gateway connector for interfacing to a standard nurse call system and a speaker and microphone in each head end side rail allowing voice communication between patient and caregiver.

Citadel Plus Bariatric Bed Frame System The bed may be optionally equipped with environmental controls mounted on the inboard face of the head end side rail which allows patient control of TV and room lighting.
The electrical actuators consist of a screw and nut assembly driven by a 24 VDC motor and gearbox. Power for the actuator is derived from an AC power supply located below the head end of the bed. When the thigh section is raised, the knee-break angle between the calf and thigh sections can be changed. The default position is Fowler (calf section angled down) but can be changed to vascular (calf section horizontal) by lifting the calf section. A steel box located at the base of the head end contains the electronics for the weighing system and the Gateway connector for the hospital communications bus. Data communication between the various electronic components on the bed uses an openbuss system to simplify wiring and allow for future expansion and modifications.

CHAPTER 2 - DECONTAMINATION Disconnect the bed from the mains power supply before performing cleaning procedures. Do not allow the mains plug or power supply cord to get wet when cleaning the bed.
1 Cleaning Wearing suitable protective clothing, clean all surfaces with a disposable cloth soaked in a neutral detergent and hand-hot water. The mattress platform decks and head / foot boards can be removed from the bed and cleaned separately. Start by cleaning the upper sections of the bed and work along all horizontal surfaces including mattress control unit if equipped. Work towards the lower section of the bed and clean the casters last. Take extra care to clean areas that may trap dirt and dust. Wipe over with a new disposable cloth moistened with clean water and dry with disposable paper towels. Allow cleaned parts to dry completely before replacing the mattress.
2 Disinfecting ArjoHuntleigh recommends disinfection using a wipe down approach with a 70% alcohol solution or bleach 1000 ppm. Although bleach may be used for wipe-down disinfection, please be aware that if used extensively, discoloration and fading of the fabrics and labels may occur.. Refer to the Citadel Plus Bariatric Care System’s Instructions for Use for additional cleaning instructions.
Do not use abrasive compounds, pads or phenol-based disinfectant solutions. Do not use jet stream cleaning or wash tunnels. Take care not to remove grease from the actuator pistons.

Preventative Maintenance
CHAPTER 3 - PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE This product has been designed to be virtually maintenance-free between service intervals. The degree of periodic maintenance required will be determined by use and condition. The following preventive maintenance checks and procedures should be carried out every 12 months. All service and repair activities must only be carried out by properly qualified and trained persons approved by ArjoHuntleigh. Disposal of product and components should be compliant with local regulations. Before starting any maintenance activity, disconnect the bed from the mains power supply. The bed sections will still operate on battery power unless the function has been disabled on the ACP. Avoid skin contact with lubricants. Gloves and protective clothing should be worn when carrying out maintenance work.
1 General Examine the bed for obvious signs of damage. Make sure that all visible fixings and fastens are secure and not missing. Examine all flexible cables for cuts, abrasions, kinks or other deterioration. Check the mains plug and cable for damage. If either the mains plug or cable is damaged, both must be replaced as a complete assembly. Under no circumstances should the integral moulded plug be replaced with a re-wireable plug.
2 Casters and Brakes • Check the brakes for efficient operation. • Check that the steering lock operates effectively. • Poor braking or steering performance indicates that one or more casters may require replacement. Casters on this product are not adjustable.

3 Battery Test Batteries should be replaced every 24 months. Always replace both batteries together as a pair. Replacement batteries voltage should be within 150 mV of each other and production date within four weeks of each other. Check the condition of the battery by carrying out the following load test. 1. Disconnect the bed from the electricity supply. 2. Raise the mattress platform to maximum height, ignore the battery warning alarm. 3. Raise the backrest and thigh sections as far as they will go. 4. Press and hold the CPR button. The mattress platform will flatten and lower to a mid-height position. 5. Lower the mattress platform to minimum height. 6. Apply maximum head down tilt (trendelenberg). 7. Return the mattress platform to the level position; then apply maximum foot down tilt (reverse Trendelenberg). If the test is not completed successfully, connect bed to electricity supply for at least eight hours to recharge the battery then perform test again. If bed fails a second time contact ArjoHuntleigh or an ArjoHuntleigh approved service agent. If the bed is stored for a long period of time, it should be connected to an electricity supply for 24 hours every three months to recharge the backup battery, otherwise the bed may become unserviceable.

CHAPTER 4 - TESTING The following serviceability tests should be performed before returning the bed to use after service, or if any function is suspect. These instructions should be read in conjunction with the product’s Instructions for Use. If the result of any test is unsatisfactory, investigate and take the appropriate remedial action. Refer to the Troubleshooting and Servicing Instructions sections. All references to left or right of the bed are when viewed from the head end (i.e. by a patient lying on the bed). If any electrical assembly or wiring has been replaced or repaired, the appropriate electrical safety checks must be made. Keep clear of the bed when it is being operated. Severe injury can result from crushing by moving parts.
1 Preliminary Do the following preliminary checks before testing: 1. Verify that no furniture or other obstruction can impede the movements of the bed. 2. Connect the bed to the mains power supply. If necessary, reinstate all locked out functions. 3. Refer to the Instructions for Use for operating instructions.
2 Electrical Functions 2.1 Bed Controls 1. Check that each ACP operates all bed functions (height, backrest angle, leg elevation, knee-break angle and tilt. Verify satisfactory operation over the full range of movement as specified in the Technical Data section. Verify that the actuators are de-energized when either the control button is released or the limit of travel is reached. 2. Check that both sets of patient controls operate the backrest and leg elevation functions. 3. Check that both sets of nurse controls operate the backrest, leg elevation and height functions. 4. Verify that the lockout function on the ACP disables the appropriate functions on all of the control units. 5. Raise the backrest and leg sections and raise the mattress platform to top height. Press and hold the CPR button and verify that the mattress platform returns to a flat, mid height condition. 6. Check the operation of the underbed lights. Underbed lights are illuminated whenever the bed is connected to the mains supply and the UBL button is pressed. 7. If equipped, check the operation of the mattress control unit and that the mattress responds accordingly.

2.2 Battery Operation Check operation of the battery by completing the steps described in the Battery Test section. 2.3 VariZone Patient Movement Detection and Auto Compensation 1. Ask a person of known weight to lie on the bed. Check that their weight is indicated correctly on the weighing system display. 2. The Auto Compensation (tare) button allows items to be added to or removed from the bed without affecting the indicated patient weight. Using the Auto Compensation feature, place a small additional weight about 5 kg (11 lb) on the bed. Check that the indicated patient weight does not change. 3. Enable the VariZone patient egress detection system, setting it to minimum sensitivity. Check that when the person gets off the bed, the patient egress alarm is triggered. 2.4 Anti-Entrapment System (AES) 1. Check that downward movement of the mattress platform is prevented when the anti-entrapment beam is interrupted and the weighing system displays AES. Also verify that when the obstruction is removed, normal operation resumes.
3 Manual Functions 3.1 Brakes and Steering 1. Check the brakes for efficient operation. Apply the brakes and push the bed. None of the three braking casters should rotate. 2. Place the foot-end pedals in the steer position and verify that the tracking (steering) casters are engaged and does not swivel. The tracking caster is identified by a yellow collar at the top of the caster stem. Always have at least one tracking caster with anti-static properties. 3.2 Side Rails 1. Check operation of each of the four split side rail sections. Verify that the release and latching mechanisms are effective and that the sides are securely locked when raised. 3.3 Bed / Width Extension 1. Check that the bed / width extensions extends and retracts smoothly and easily. Make sure the bed extension release handles and catch bar operate easily and locks securely in all positions. Make sure the width extension locks securely when pulled out. 3.4 Emergency CPR Release 1. Use the bed controls to raise the backrest to about 60°. Operate either CPR release handle and verify that the backrest descends to a horizontal position in a smooth, controlled manner and if an mattress control unit is installed, the mattress deflates. Check that both CPR release levers operate correctly. Re-zero backrest angle after test.
