ENGLISH / INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Pneumatic Equipment INTRODUCTION
Research and experience have shown that water-pumped nitrogen is the ideal power source for pneumatically-powered surgical instruments. Water-pumped dry nitrogen is 99.97% pure and will not support combustion or corrosion. Compressed dry nitrogen is recommended as the pneumatic power source.
INTENDED USE
The equipment described in this literature is intended for use with all pneumatic products. Note: For specific installation and operating instructions for all pneumatic equipment and hoses, reference the appropriate pneumatic handpiece manual or informational insert.
WARNINGS
Failure to follow any of these warnings can result in a burst hose, which may cause personal injury and temporary loss of hearing. 1. Prior to each use, perform the following. • Inspect all equipment for proper operation. • Always inspect hoses for signs of wear or damage. Do not use worn or damaged hoses. Replace immediately. • Ensure all equipment and hoses are correctly and completely attached to the handpiece and medical grade compressed air tank(s). • Check all equipment for any leakage. If leakage is noticed, return for service. 2. Do not pressurize hoses until all fittings have been connected and checked. 3. Do not restrict exhaust vents on hoses, or severely bend or kink hoses. Damage or injury may result. 4. Do not disconnect hoses from equipment prior to releasing built up pressure. Reference the appropriate handpiece manual for more information.
PRECAUTIONS 1. 2. 3. 4.
Handle all equipment carefully. If equipment is dropped or damaged in any way, return it immediately for service. No user service recommended. Refer servicing to qualified CONMED service personnel. Do not oil or lubricate any of these products. After each use, thoroughly clean equipment.

CLEANING
1. Follow universal precautions for protective apparel when handling and cleaning contaminated instruments. 2. Keep hoses attached to the handpiece during cleaning. 3. Do not immerse any equipment in fluids. 4. Clean equipment and hose(s) thoroughly with a soft brush and mild, pH balanced detergent. 5. Following cleaning, wipe equipment again with distilled or sterilized water. 6. Dry with a lint-free towel. 7. After cleaning, detach the hose from the handpiece prior to sterilization.
STERILIZATION
Precautions: 1. Do not “Peel Pack” hoses for sterilization. 2. Do not sterilize hoses with Ethylene Oxide (EtO). 3. Never sterilize hoses in a STERIS System, STERRAD System or comparable sterilization methods. 4. Do not sterilize hoses in cold sterilants like CIDEX. 5. Never sterilize couplers, “Y” Connectors or pressure testers. NOTES 1. “Flash” sterilization should not be used for hoses. 2. Sterilization validation has been conducted in accordance with the requirements of AAMI TIR12. Steam sterilization is safe and effective, and has no contraindications for its use in sterilizing these hoses. Only the hoses are intended to be steam sterilized. 1. Place the cleaned hose(s) in an instrument tray. 2. If instruments are to be wrapped, two double thicknesses of #140 thread count wrappers should be utilized.
